As the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) title race intensifies, log leaders Simba Bhora and second-placed FC Platinum face challenging matches this weekend.
Simba Bhora will host CAPS United at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva on Saturday, November 2. A victory would extend their lead to nine points over FC Platinum, at least temporarily, as they seek to solidify their position at the top of the table.
On Sunday, FC Platinum will take on Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium, knowing they must secure three points to keep their hopes alive for overtaking Simba Bhora in the title race.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has officially secured the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo Province, South Africa, to host the Warriors’ upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifier match against Kenya’s Harambee Stars.
The match is scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2024, with kick-off set for 6 PM. Zimbabwe is in Group J of the AFCON qualifiers, alongside Cameroon, Namibia, and Kenya.
The two teams last met in the first leg of the qualifiers in September, which ended in a 0-0 draw at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

In one unauthorised course, the organisers were charging US$150 for aspiring coaches who wished to participate in a so-called Level One soccer coaching course scheduled from November 4 to 12, 2024, at Sakubva Primary School in Mutare.

ZIFA Warns Against Unauthorised Coaching Courses

The much-anticipated judgment regarding the abandoned match between Karoi United and Scottland was postponed on Wednesday after Karoi United requested additional time to submit a mitigation report, having been found guilty in the case.
The Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) Disciplinary Committee determined that Karoi United was responsible for the abandonment of their league match last month.
The match was stopped in the 82nd minute when referee Matthew Dingo reported experiencing pain in “one of his testicles” after being struck by a “hard object.” He also mentioned bleeding from the shin where he had been hit.
In a statement released yesterday, the NRSL assured that the judgment would be delivered no later than Monday. It said:

The ruling on the penalty shall be delivered by the Disciplinary Committee by Monday, November 4 latest.

Karoi United were charged with “Contravention of Section D2 (2.1) of the Northern Region Soccer League Rules and Regulations”.
The Disciplinary Committee is expected to award Scottland the three points on Monday, regardless of Karoi United’s mitigation.
Depending on the outcomes of tomorrow’s matches involving title-chasing MWOS FC and Scottland, the latter could rise to the top of the league standings.
Currently, MWOS holds a one-point lead, but if Scottland wins against Herentals Under-20, they will ascend to the top following the conclusion of their case against Karoi United.
If both teams win their remaining two matches of the season, Scottland will finish in first place with a two-point advantage.
Meanwhile, MWOS will no longer control their own fate and must rely on other teams to secure victories against Scottland.

After the hearing, delays occurred as all parties needed to be present for the announcement of the Disciplinary Committee’s determination, with lawyers insisting on their presence.
The judgment could significantly impact the league title race, as Scottland is in close competition with log leaders MWOS FC for promotion to the top flight.
The two teams are separated by just one point, and a favourable ruling for Scottland could elevate them to the top of the standings before the season’s final matches.
The match was abandoned while tied at 1-1, with referee Mathew Dingo claiming he was struck by an object thrown by a fan, preventing him from continuing the game with eight minutes remaining.
According to league rules, if a match is abandoned due to actions by a team’s players, officials, or fans, the other team is awarded a 3-0 victory.
Karoi United has not denied that a fan struck the referee but contends that he was hit by the match ball, not a foreign object as alleged.
The match was played on September 15, and the hearing was conducted last month.
Match commissioner Kanzvimbo Kanzvimbo reported that match officials were consistently threatened with violence throughout the game. Part of Kanzvimbo’s report reads:

He was verbally warned several times and at 82 minutes, the referee (Dingo) went to caution him for a similar offence (and) during that process, Karoi United supporters who were behind the goals threw missiles at him and he fell. The referees had to go to the changing rooms for safety and further treatment. Karoi United fans advanced and surrounded the changing room demanding that they be released.
I was sprinkled with unknown liquid substances as I moved in and out of changing rooms to check on the safety of players.

Dlodlo was found dead at his home in Nketa 9, Bulawayo, on Monday at the age of 60. Friends reported that he was last seen alive on Saturday, two days before his body was discovered.

A Facebook post he made on October 16 is now being viewed as a potential suicide note, raising concerns about his mental well-being prior to this tragic incident. In the post, Dlodlo wrote in Ndebele:

Dynamos legend and 1973 Soccer Star of the Year, Ernest Kamba, passed away on Monday morning at his home in Norton at the age of 76.
Kamba enjoyed an illustrious career, representing both Zimbabwe and Malawi on the football field. In his later years, he became known for his vocal criticism of successive administrations at Dynamos, over the manner the club was being run.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/kamba-a-largely-misunderstood-figure/">The Herald</a>, to some, Kamba was a rebellious, divisive, and power-hungry figure but to others, he was a hero, a champion of justice and good governance.
He consistently argued that his colleagues at Dynamos, including current leadership under Bernard Marriot, were violating the club’s constitution, which he believed had strayed from the original document established in 1963.
Former Dynamos treasurer Eric Mvududu remarked that football had lost a “principled man” who steadfastly stood up for what he believed was right, particularly concerning the integrity of the DeMbare constitution. Said Mvududu:

I have known him as a person who was very strict in trying to get people to follow the rules and the constitution of Dynamos, which made him very unpopular with some people in the club.
Each time he wanted to get people to return to what their constitution says, sometimes they would take him out. But whenever he was kicked out, he never lost his love for Dynamos.
He was a man who continued on his path without wavering. He was trying to preserve governance at Dynamos.
He was trying to address the root cause of the problems Dynamos are in today, which is a lack of good governance.
At one point he was incorporated into the board led by Richard Chiminya and at his first meeting he refused to take up the position and told them that the board should be elected by the electoral college and had no power to appoint him.
They suspended him until the electoral college lifted the suspension for his principal. For those who abhor good governance claim, he was a controversial and unpopular figure.

Kamba’s death follows that of his comrade-in-arms, David George, who passed away 10 months earlier.
Kamba and George, along with other former players, had been involved in a long court challenge over Marriot’s claims of club ownership.
In 2022, amidst the disputes, Kamba was elected chairman of the DeMbare Board of Trustees, with Sunday Chidzambwa as his deputy.
Eric Aisam was elected secretary, and Cremio Mapfumo as treasurer.
The 10-member Board of Trustees included Kamba, George, Moses Chunga, Clayton Munemo, Labani Kandi, Makwinji Soma-Phiri, and Ignatius Kapfunde.
The Board of Trustees never assumed control as Marriot contested their position through legal means.
Kamba eventually relinquished his post and retired.
Lifelong Footballers Trust chairman Francis Zimunya said Kamba spent his final years struggling on crutches as a result of injuries suffered during his playing years. Said Zimunya:

It’s sad that in Zimbabwe legends are not recognised by the people who are running the game. Kamba spent the remainder of his life disabled and I can blame that on neglect.

That is why we proposed to approach the Ruwa Rehabilitation Centre to provide current and former footballers with rehabilitation services. We continue to appeal to authorities to respect our legends.

Kamba was born on June 22, 1948, in Chinhoyi. He attended pre-school at Chakari Mine and later went to Manyaira Primary School in Marondera, where he began his football career.
He completed his secondary education at Monte Casino and St. Ignatius College, during which he played for Rhodesia Railways.
Kamba played for lower division team Mashonaland before achieving prominence at Dynamos from 1966 to 1976.
During his time at Dynamos, he played alongside notable players such as Sydney Dick, Alois Masikano, Lovemore Sam, Denver Mahachi, David Madondo, Lameck Mlambo, George Yoyo, Daniel Ncube, Shaw Handriade, and the legendary George Shaya.
Most of Kamba’s former teammates from that era are now deceased, leaving Marriot as the last surviving member of that generation.
Kamba later coached Dynamos in 1983, leading the team to win the league championship and the BAT trophy. His coaching staff included players like Japhet M’parutsa, Sunday Chidzambwa, and his late brother Misheck.
ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa and the late midfielder Hamid Dhana were also part of the successful team he coached.

The showdown follows Ngezi Platinum Stars’ thrilling victory over Simba Bhora, winning 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Baobab Stadium on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Dynamos secured their spot by defeating Manica Diamonds 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
In Saturday’s match in Mhondoro, Ngezi took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal from Talent Chamboko.
However, Simba Bhora equalised in the 75th minute thanks to Tymon Machope’s close-range effort.
Machope then scored again six minutes later, putting Simba ahead, but Ngezi responded just two minutes after that with Farai Madanhanga’s goal, sending the match to penalties.
During the shootout, Kudzai Chigwida, Nigel Makumbe, Takunda Benhura, Never Tigere, and Madanhanga all successfully converted their kicks for Ngezi Platinum Stars.
For Simba, Walter Musona, Blessing Moyo, Gift Saunyama, and Onifade Abubakar scored, but Ishe Mauchi had his attempt saved, securing Ngezi’s place in the final.
On Sunday in Harare, Dynamos faced an uphill battle after conceding a goal to Bret Amidu just 19 minutes into the match.

Dynamos players returned to training on Friday after boycotting sessions on Wednesday and Thursday to protest unpaid winning bonuses and signing-on fees.
The sit-in had put their upcoming Chibuku Super Cup semifinal clash against Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium in jeopardy.
Following a meeting with the club’s leadership, the players agreed to resume training. However, the situation took a turn for the worse on Friday morning when the club suspended Tanaka Shandirwa.
In response, the entire squad vowed to continue their protest, refusing to return to training until the suspension was lifted.
It wasn’t until the club reversed Shandirwa’s suspension that the players agreed to return to practice.
Meanwhile, the club’s executive has assured the players that their winning bonuses will be paid at the end of the season.
Players who spoke to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200034119/dembare-players-end-strike">NewsDay</a> on Thursday claimed they were owed approximately US$500 each, in addition to outstanding signing-on fees.
However, club chairperson Moses Maunganidze denied the claims regarding signing-on fees, confirming only that they do owe bonuses, adding that an agreement is in place to address the issue. He said:

Yes, we owe the players winning bonuses for about five games. However, the agreement was to pay them once-off at the end of the season.
If you still remember, we paid them winning bonuses for the first half of the season in June-July as a once-off payment.
Then we agreed with them to do the same for the second half of the season at the end of the term.
We are shocked to see them staging a sit-in for a matter that we thought had been addressed.

Players from Dynamos stopped practicing because they weren't paid their bonuses and fees. They almost missed an important match. The players went back to training after a meeting but got angry when a player was suspended. They only returned to playing after the suspension was lifted. Dynamos Players End Training Boycott

Dynamos has suspended midfielder Tanaka “Kante” Shandirwa, without pay and benefits, with immediate effect, allegedly for bringing the Club into disrepute.
According to a letter addressed to Shandirwa, signed by Dynamos’ Secretary General Webster Marechera, the Acting Head Coach, Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe recommended the suspension yesterday. Said Marechera:

Please take note that you are being charged with contravening SI 15 of 200d known as the National Employment Code of Conduct. Section 4(a) of the National Employment Code of Conduct stipulates that ” Any conduct or omission inconsistent with the fulfilment of the express or implied conditions of one’s contract”.
The grounds for the charges which have been building up since the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round matches got to a head on Thursday 24th October 2024 at a meeting held between the Dynamos FC Executive Committee, technical team and players when you publicly displayed disrespect and disdain for the club leadership.
In the premises, your conduct has left the Club with no option but to invoke Section 6(1) of the National Employment Code of Conduct (SI 15 of 2006) and suspend you from work without pay and benefits with effect from Thursday 24th October.
You shall be shortly served with the notification to attend a disciplinary hearing, which notification shall fully spell out the allegations and subsequent charges as provided for in the National Employment Code of Conduct.
During your period of suspension, you are not allowed to visit any of Dynamos FC facilities, including the training ground at Alexandra Sports Club, offices at the National Sports Stadium or even phone any of the Dynamos FC players, technical officials or Executive Committee Members.

Dynamos players refused to train for the second consecutive day on Thursday in protest over unpaid winning bonuses and sign-on fees.

He said:

I hope that by tomorrow (today) we will be able to pay all that we owe them.
We agreed to pay the bonuses all at once for the second half of the season like we did last year.
Even those players whose contracts were running out at the end of last year, we paid them, so I do not see any reason why those with contracts running out at the end of this term are panicking.
But these things happen, and we have tried our best to also address things from our end and we are saying the payment will be done tomorrow (today).

Premier Soccer League boss and CAPS United president Farai Jere is reportedly planning to join the race for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president.
Although there are no official candidates yet, several potential contestants have shown interest, including UK-based Marshal Gore, former CAPS United star Alois Bunjira, clergyman Walter Magaya, FC Wangu Mazodze owner Richard Mazodze, and Zimbabwean football legend Peter Ndlovu.
The NewsHawks reported sources as saying Jere, a businessman and Murehwa West Member of Parliament, will soon make an official announcement of his candidacy.
Jere is credited with bringing stability to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and restoring order at CAPS United, leading them to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Jere has previously served as a ZIFA board member.
ZIFA is currently led by a Normalisation Committee appointed by FIFA to address issues within the previous administration and local football.
The ZIFA congress recently met in Harare to ratify amendments to their constitution, setting the stage for the football association’s elections early next year.

PSL Chairman Farai Jere Set To Enter Race For ZIFA Presidency

A Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) official made significant concessions that could impact the fraud case against five former ZIFA board members: Felton Kamambo, Philemon Machana, Stanley Chapeta, Joseph Mamutse, and Brighton Malandule, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/src-official-exonerates-ousted-zifa-board-members-facing-fraud/">ZimLive</a>.
The SRC accused the five of using a ZIFA letterhead to write misleading letters while on suspension.
However, midway through the trial, the SRC opted out and informed the Prosecutor-General that they no longer considered themselves complainants.
Despite this, the state continued the prosecution, leading the accused to seek a referral to the Constitutional Court, arguing the state should not proceed without a complainant.
Sebastian Garikai, former acting director-general of the SRC, testified that using the ZIFA letterhead violated the suspension terms, which barred the accused from acting as ZIFA officials.
Garikai alleged that Mamutse authored the letters on behalf of the ZIFA board, making all involved liable.
Prosecutor Oscar Madhume questioned how the others were linked if Mamutse signed the letters, to which Garikai responded that the letters were written on behalf of the ZIFA board.
Garikai acknowledged that the suspension letter did not specify prohibitions, including the use of the ZIFA letterhead.
The prosecutor asked if the suspension conditions were communicated directly to the accused. Garikai replied that the suspension letter did not outline specific conditions.
Garikai admitted that the SRC did not verify whether the five accused wrote, signed, and sent the letters and that the police report was based on accounts from Xolisani Gwesela and other ZIFA officers.
Lawyer Admire Rubaya challenged Garikai to prove the allegations without verification from a handwriting expert, suggesting Gwesela had personal motives.
Garikai agreed that he did not consult the accused before filing the police report.
He also the court that despite suspending the former ZIFA board members, FIFA rejected the SRC’s actions and banned Zimbabwe from international football activities.
This supported the defence’s claim that there was never a valid suspension, as FIFA continued to engage with the board members during the SRC’s allegations.
Garikai conceded that at the time of the alleged misrepresentations, the accused were recognised as the legitimate football leaders in Zimbabwe due to FIFA’s suspension of the country.
The defence argued that Mamutse’s suspension was irregular since he was a ZIFA employee under a private contract, not a board member.
The case will continue on October 31.

The Zimbabwe national senior women’s football team, the Mighty Warriors, have departed for the COSAFA Women’s Championships, set to take place in Gqeberha, South Africa, from October 22 to November 2.
Zimbabwe is in Group D alongside Mozambique and Lesotho, with only the group winners advancing to the semi-finals.

Dynamos ended a two-game losing streak in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League by securing maximum points against relegation favourites Arenel Movers at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
DeMbare scored in the first half through Emmanuel Ziocha and Valentine Kadonzvo, while Chrispen Machisi netted Arenel Movers’ consolation goal in the second half.
Dynamos had lost two league matches against CAPS United and Chicken Inn at Rufaro.
On Sunday, CAPS United were held to a 2-2 draw by Bulawayo Chiefs at Rufaro Stadium.
Meanwhile, Manica Diamonds climbed to third place after a narrow win over Highlanders at Sakubva Stadium.
On Saturday, Simba Bhora’s 0-1 loss to Herentals reduced their lead at the top to six points, as FC Platinum triumphed 3-0 over Yadah at Mandava Stadium, with all three goals scored before the half-hour mark.
Simba Bhora currently lead the table with 60 points, followed by FC Platinum in second place with 54 points. Manica Diamonds are third with 47 points, Ngezi Platinum Stars are fourth with 46 points, while Highlanders and CAPS United are in fifth and sixth positions with 44 points and 42 points, respectively.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has adopted a new constitution that now makes it mandatory for all prospective candidates for its presidency to possess a minimum of five Ordinary Level subjects.
The new constitution was ratified by congress on Friday, 18 October.
In a post-Annual General Meeting press conference, ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa said that the new constitution will enable ZIFA elections early next year.
He said candidates for the ZIFA presidency must now have five ‘O’ Levels to ensure qualified leadership. 
Mutasa also encouraged players to balance their football careers with academic pursuits if they aspire to lead ZIFA in the future. He said:

When one applies for a job, there are certain requirements needed, and we are not looking for star players to head the association. We need people with the requisite knowledge for the job.

ZIFA Presidential Candidates Must Have Five O-Levels

Walter Magaya, a presidential aspirant for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), along with Gift Banda, a former ZIFA vice president, are accused of attempting to manipulate their way into top positions within the organisation.
According to a report by <a href="https://nehandaradio.com/2024/10/16/prophet-magaya-accused-of-bribery-to-bypass-zifa-o-level-requirement/">Nehanda Radio</a>, the pair allegedly organised a secret meeting on October 10, 2024, at Number 10 Park Road in Suburbs, Bulawayo, with ZIFA councillors from the Southern Region.
During this meeting, they purportedly campaigned for the councillors to amend the constitution to eliminate the requirement of five O-levels, a qualification that Magaya reportedly does not possess.
A source close to the development told Nehanda Radio that Magaya and Banda, “asked the councillors to amend the constitution on Friday and refuse the Clause which demands 5 O levels and other clauses which can be detrimental in the quest to land the highest positions in ZIFA elections scheduled for next year January. Magaya wants to be President and Gift Banda wants the position of Vice President.”
The meeting was allegedly attended by Magaya (aspiring ZIFA president), his Manager Wellington Mpandare, Gift Banda (aspiring ZIFA vice president), Eddi Ndodana Masuku (Chairman Area Zone South Region) and Francis Ntutha (Bulawayo Provincial Chairman).
Clevios Ncube (Matabeleland North Provincial Chairman), Nkosilathi Ncube (Matabeleland South Provincial Chairman), Pervious Mathe Midlands Provincial Chairman from Gweru also attended the meeting.
Others are Loyd Munhanga (Southern Region Chairman), Tafadzwa Mutowa (Board Member Southern Region), Blessed Mbwanda (Board Member Southern Region), Tizirayi Luphahla (Board Member Finance Southern Region), Kenneth Mhlophe Highlanders Chairman (aspiring PSL Chairman), Morgen Gazza Dube Highlanders Secretary (aspiring ZIFA Board Member) and Tavengwa Hara Chicken Inn Secretary General (aspiring ZIFA Board Member).

Magaya claims to be a prophet and is the founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, a church with significant membership in Harare.
He has faced previous allegations of rape and fraud, while Banda has faced allegations in the past involving match-fixing and has been sacked from ZIFA twice before.
The proposed amendment to the ZIFA Statutes requires the association’s president and two vice presidents to have at least five O-levels.
Critics aligned with Magaya and Banda argue this amendment may violate Article 4 of the ZIFA Statutes, which addresses non-discrimination and equality.
A meeting is scheduled for October 18 in Harare, where ZIFA Councillors will discuss the proposed amendments and establish statutes for the ZIFA executive committee elections.
The draft ZIFA Statutes highlight the importance of integrity checks and educational qualifications for executive committee members. Part of the draft ZIFA Statutes reads:

They shall undergo an integrity check, to be conducted by the Ethics Committee, prior to their election or re-election

In the wake of the 7-0 defeat, Norton Community FC announced investigations into potential match-fixing by some players and executive members.
The club has suspended Clemence Masunda, Willard Nguwoyembwa, goalkeeper Brandon Bere, executive member Tafadzwa Kuyerukana, and executive member Patrick Nyamayaro.
In another development, is alleged that two football legends, purportedly on behalf of Scottland, approached some MWOS FC players to influence the outcomes of their matches.
A source close to MWOS FC revealed these details to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/theindependent/sport/article/200033538/match-fixing-fears-overshadow-thrilling-northern-region-soccer-league-race">The Zimbabwe Independent</a>. Said the source:

There are some players who have been approached by at least two football legends, who urged them to throw away games and their life would be sorted out, but the players refused and reported the matter to their technical coaches.
Now, MWOS coaches educate their players on the consequences of throwing away games especially before and after training sessions.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s decisive 7-0 victory over Norton Community FC at Rufaro Stadium, Scottland FC coach Genesis Mangombe dismissed the allegations of match-fixing. He said:

I would not want to comment about match-fixing because I am just a coach, but you see the biggest problem is that our club is well sponsored. So when some people see things going well they tend to think something fishy is taking place.
We are playing good football and the players are ready for any challenge.

ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League chairman Martin Kweza said that his office has not received any formal complaints regarding allegations of match-fixing.
He added that they do not act on rumours and will only investigate and address the issue if official complaints are made.

Match Fixing Allegations Overshadow Northern Region Soccer League Title Race

Dynamos fringe goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni became the hero when he came off the bench to save a penalty in a Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final shootout win against Yadah at Rufaro Stadium.
Dynamos struggled for most of the game, trailing since Prosper Kafelapanjila’s super strike two minutes into the second half.
Valentine Kadonzvo equalised with a left-footed goal 10 minutes before full time, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.
Dynamos converted all their penalties, with Frank Makarati, Emmanuel Jalai, Eli Ilunga, Kadonzvo, and Emmanual Paga scoring.
Yadah’s takers Jerry Chipangura, Tanaka Chikumba, and Blessed Ndereki also scored, but Ariel Makopa’s attempt was saved by Makoni.
Dynamos are out of the league title race due to recent poor form, but this win keeps their chances alive for retaining the knock-out tournament in Zimbabwe.
Dynamos coach, Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe, was relieved following their victory, which came after two consecutive league game losses against CAPS United and Chicken Inn. He said (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/dynamos-storm-into-chibuku-semis/">The Herald</a>):

Of late Rufaro has not been the best hunting ground for us but in the end, we have managed to snatch something positive out of it.

Dynamos beat Yadah in a soccer game to move to the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup. They struggled during the match but managed to equalize near the end.
