Scottland FC has been confirmed as the 2024 National Region Soccer League (NRSL) champions after the ZIFA Appeals Committee ruled on the disputed outcome of a match between the Mabvuku-based club and Karoi United FC.
The ZIFA Appeals Committee upheld the NRSL Disciplinary Committee’s decision, which found Karoi United FC guilty of causing the abandonment of the match. As a result, the match was awarded to Scottland FC with a 3-0 scoreline.
In a statement, the NRSL said that the ruling by ZIFA was a vindication of its disciplinary committee’s earlier decision. Said the NRSL:

We have taken note of the decision of the ZIFA Appeals committee in reference to the abandoned match between Karoi United FC and Scottland FC.
The Appeals committee upheld the decision of the NRSL Disciplinary committee, wherein Karoi United FC was found guilty for causing the abandonment of the match, and consequently the match was awarded to Scottland FC on a 3-0 scoreline.
This judgement is a vindication of our disciplinary committee. We are of the firm belief that the decision is in line with all known football Rules and Regulations and in the spirit of fair play.
We hope that this will bring closure to the issue and that henceforth our members and stakeholders will move forward and prepare for the forthcoming season.

The match, played at Chikangwe Stadium on September 15, was abandoned in the 88th minute after referee Martin Dingo was injured by a thrown “missile”. At the time of the incident, the score was 1-1.

ZIFA Appeals Committee Rules In Favour Of Scottland FC

Former Warriors striker Tendai Ndoro has strongly denied reports that he lost all his assets to his South African ex-wife, Thando Maseko, following their divorce, contrary to widespread claims.
Ndoro, who became a household name in the South African Premiership with clubs like Orlando Pirates, Highlands Park, and Ajax Cape Town, separated from Maseko in 2022.
After their split, it was widely reported that he lost all his assets to his wife and fell on hard times.
Media reports at the time suggested that Ndoro had registered all his assets in Maseko’s name and lost everything as a result.
However, in a recent interview with award-winning South African football journalist Lorenz Kohler on his podcast, Ndoro cleared Maseko of any involvement in the challenges he faced post-divorce, exonerating her from the issues he encountered. He said:

The Zimbabwean said he has been working hard to stay sharp and fit. Despite not playing competitive football for years, Ndoro has not officially retired.

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee has said it will not engage in discussions regarding the suitability of Councillors to vote for the next substantive executive committee, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/let-them-all-feast-zifa-give-council-all-clear/">H-Metro</a>.
Despite accusations that Councillors are a major factor in the decline of Zimbabwean football due to corruption and electoral fraud, the ZIFA NC maintains that it has no authority to intervene in this matter.
Addressing a media conference attended by ZIFA chairman, Lincoln Mutasa, and another member of the committee Rosemary Mugadza, ZIFA board member Nyasha Sanyamandwe said:

Regarding the credibility of the councillors, we all have different thoughts about different people and opinions but legally speaking if no case has been put forward, and then a conviction, at least, that can incriminate an individual member, we cannot do anything about it.
We also need to highlight that law is law. These people are independent, this is what the ZIFA statutes are saying.
The councillors are coming and we are not even sure who is coming because they will give us their own delegates.

The ZIFA elections are scheduled to take place at the Rainbow Towers on January 25 next year. The deadline for submitting nominations is December 11, with candidates required to pass an eligibility test before being considered for the final shortlist, which will be confirmed by December 23.
Sanyamandwe said that current ZIFA officials holding positions within the association’s structures must step down before submitting their nominations for the executive committee. She said:

If you want to run for exco (executive committee) office but you are still holding a position within the membership structures, the electoral code is very clear.
Issues to do with conflict of interest should not be tolerated. So, they should do the needful.

The upcoming ZIFA elections will be conducted in line with the new Electoral Code and the revised statutes of ZIFA, which will be adopted by the ZIFA Congress.
The ZIFA executive committee will consist of 11 members, including the president and two vice presidents, one of whom must be a woman.
All candidates seeking a position on the executive committee must not have any prior criminal convictions.

Businessman Kuda Tagwirei has rejected recent speculation linking him to a potential takeover of the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Kwekwe United Football Club.
Rumours had been circulating in football circles that Tagwirei, owner of Sakunda Holdings, was interested in acquiring the Kwekwe-based club.
However, in an interview with <a href="https://nehandaradio.com/2024/11/25/kuda-tagwirei-distances-himself-from-buying-new-psl-side-kwekwe-united/">Nehanda Radio</a>, Tagwirei firmly dismissed these claims, saying, “Not true” in response to a question from the publication.
In recent years, Sakunda Holdings has been a major sponsor of top football clubs, including Highlanders and Dynamos.
The sponsorship deal, which lasted from 2021 to 2023, ended formally, but Sakunda continues to provide financial support to both clubs.

Kuda Tagwirei Denies Rumours Of Kwekwe United FC Acquisition

Bulawayo Chiefs and Hwange were relegated from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Saturday, November 23, and joined already relegated Arenel Movers and Chegutu, after they finished 15th and 16th on the log standings.
Bulawayo Chiefs took the lead before losing 2-1 at Manica Diamonds, while Hwange suffered a 2-0 loss against Bikita Minerals, who escaped the chop in the process.
Arenel Movers became the first team to be officially relegated from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Chegutu Pirates will make their way back to the Northern Region Soccer League after just one season in the top flight, as was Arenel Movers.
Bulawayo Chiefs were the best placed of the relegation candidates as they had destiny in their own hands at Sakubva Stadium.
They needed three points without worrying about results elsewhere and they looked on course when they took the lead off a 62nd-minute penalty by Migoz Svinurai.
However, Manica Diamonds turned the tables with two goals in two minutes.
Evans Katema equalised from the spot in the 82nd minute and the goal was timely for his former club, Bikita Minerals, who were leading against Hwange at Wadzanai Stadium.
Michael Tapera then won the game for Manica Diamonds two minutes later.
This means that the 2025 ZIFA Southern Region Soccer League will have three teams from the PSL, that is Bulawayo Chiefs, Hwange and Arenel Movers.
Bulawayo Chiefs finished the 2024 PSL season with 36 points, followed by Hwange with 35 points, Chegutu Pirates on 33 points, and Arenel Movers at the bottom with 23 points.
Meanwhile, GreenFuel beat Dynamos 2-1 to complete the season unbeaten at home in the first full season using the GreenFuel Arene in Chisumbanje.

England-based Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has praised Scottland Football Club owner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya for his financial contributions to local football, which have transformed the lives of many players.
In the recently concluded Northern Regional Soccer League (NRSL) season, Sakupwanya, a gold dealer with close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, rewarded his players with generous winning bonuses, paying as much as US$1,500 per match. He also promised each player US$10,000 if they achieved promotion to the top flight.
Sakupwanya’s associate, Wicknell Chivayo, further rewarded the players by giving each of them a Toyota Aqua vehicle for winning the NRSL title.
However, Scottland FC is still awaiting confirmation of its promotion to the Premier League next season, pending the outcome of an appeal by Karoi United to ZIFA.
Nakamba, who plays for Luton Town in England’s Championship, believes the substantial financial support provided by Sakupwanya will significantly uplift local footballers, offering them better opportunities and a brighter future. In anticipation of their participation in the top-flight league next season, Scottland FC has reportedly strengthened their squad by signing Highlanders duo Peter Muduhwa and Lynoth Chikuhwa, along with the Moyo twins, Elvis and Kelvin, from Dynamos.
Nakamba believes Scottland’s significant financial investment will inspire other clubs to elevate their standards, offering improved remuneration and bonuses to players to remain competitive. He said:

Some of the players had given up hope in their lives, but now, they have somewhere to start from. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has announced the date for the ZIFA Executive Committee elections.
The Elective Congress will take place on 25 January 2024.
The nomination process is now open, and nomination forms are available on the ZIFA website, at the ZIFA NC offices in Milton Park, and at the ZIFA House. ZIFA said in a statement:

We are pleased to inform all stakeholders that the ZIFA Executive Committee Election Nominations are officially open.
Please be advised that the ZIFA Executive Committee Election will be conducted in line with the Elections Roadmap, ZIFA Statutes 2024 and ZIFA Electoral Code 2024.
This process will culminate in the Elective Ordinary Congress, scheduled for the 25th of January 2025.
</blockquote>
The upcoming elections will be conducted under the amended ZIFA constitution which was recently approved by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and registered with FIFA.
Key changes in the constitution include a requirement for candidates to have passed at least five Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, and to have been ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe for the past two years.
Additionally, all members of the Executive Committee must not have been previously convicted or sentenced for any criminal offence and must be at least 40 years old.

ZIFA has set a date for the Executive Committee elections on 25th January 2024. Anyone interested can get nomination forms online or at certain offices. The elections will follow new rules, like candidates needing to pass five exams and not having criminal records. All executive members must be at least 40 years old. The changes were approved by the Sports and Recreation Commission and FIFA.

ZIFA Elective Ordinary Congress Date Set

The chairman of the Northern Region Soccer League, Martin Kweza, and his deputy, Sweeney Mushonga, reportedly made urgent attempts to prevent the Karoi United case from being heard by the ZIFA appeals committee.
According to <a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2024/11/21/karoi-united-scottland-case-zifa-appeals-committee-decides-nation-awaits/">Soccer24</a>, a source familiar with the proceedings claimed that Kweza and Mushonga, represented by their lawyers during the hearing on Tuesday, contended that Karoi United had withdrawn their appeal. Said the source:

They argued through their lawyer that Karoi United had withdrawn their appeal. So basically, they tried to stop the case from being heard.

ZIFA General Secretary Yvonne Mapika Manwa communicated on two separate occasions regarding the upcoming hearing by the national association’s appeals committee.
On November 9, she informed Karoi United that their appeal had been acknowledged. Then, on November 13, she wrote to Martin Kweza, reminding the ZIFA presidential hopeful that the record of proceedings for the case was required.
The ZIFA Appeals Committee eventually heard the case, although no representatives from Scottland were present.
According to a statement from the Northern Region Soccer League, the verdict will be announced within seven days.
The ZIFA Appeals Committee may uphold the Northern Region Soccer League Disciplinary Committee’s ruling to declare Scottland the winner of the match with a 3-0 scoreline. If that happens, the Mabvuku-based team will be promoted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
If the Appeals Committee overrules the NRSL Disciplinary Committee and declares the match a 1-1 draw as per precedence, Scottland will lose the title to MWOS, as the Norton-based side would finish one point ahead of Scottland.
Alternatively, the ZIFA Appeals Committee could decide that the remaining two minutes of the match should be played to determine the outcome.

The 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) concludes this weekend, with a focus on the relegation battle as two more teams will join Arenel Movers and Chegutu Pirates, who have already been relegated.
With the championship already decided—Simba Bhora crowned as champions—attention shifts to the final round of fixtures to determine which teams will drop to the lower division.
Bikita Minerals, Hwange, and Bulawayo Chiefs are at risk, with two of the teams set to be relegated.
Bikita Minerals, known as “The Lithium Boys,” will host Hwange at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva on Saturday.
A win for either team could secure their survival, provided Bulawayo Chiefs falter against Manica Diamonds at the same venue on Sunday.

In comparison, Bikita Minerals sit at -11 and Hwange at -16, making it less probable for the Chiefs to be relegated under these circumstances.

Yadah Football Club has dismissed reports suggesting that midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa has joined CAPS United, despite the player being photographed with the club’s president, Farai Jere, and head coach, Lloyd Chitembwe.
CAPS United also claimed on their social media platforms that Shandirwa had agreed to a three-year deal with them.
In an interview, Jere expressed confidence that Shandirwa has the potential to rediscover his best form at CAPS United and become one of the top players in the league again.

ZIFA Confirms Ticket Prices For Warriors, Kenya AFCON Qualifier

Zimbabwean football legend Moses Chunga has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association’s (ZIFA) new eligibility requirements for its chairperson.
One of the new rules is that candidates must have at least five Ordinary Level (O-Level) passes. Chunga, however, argued that footballers who fail to meet this academic benchmark should not be labelled as “madofo”—a derogatory Shona term meaning “dull” or “slow to understand.”
Rosemary Mugadza, the ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) member is quoted saying:

I was given a chance by my parents to go to school and they made sure that I have the five O Levels.
I’m a CAF instructor, where a certain level of education is required for you to participate in terms of imparting knowledge to the other fellow females.
It’s the right time for us former footballers to enrol into night schools to get the required academics that we ought to have.
Also, if you look at the current situation that we have, the current crop of players, there are scholarships that are offered for them.

ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa said:

5 O levels are for seeing someone’s ability to be able to read and write, understand numbers and communicate with our principles whether at CAF or FIFA.
That’s basically the reason for that 5 O-level qualification requirement. It’s not a major hurdle, it’s a basic stepping stone only to distinguish those who can’t read and write.

However, Chunga said some footballers and former footballers lack five O’Level passes not because they are “dull” or unintelligent, but because, during their teenage years, they faced the difficult choice between dedicating themselves to football or pursuing formal education.
He pointed out that many young players prioritised their athletic careers, often sacrificing their schooling in pursuit of professional football. Those who follow my posts know that I started playing football for Lytton Primary School B team when I was only around 8 years old.
From that age onwards football was all that mattered to me. I would spend most of my time training, and nurturing my talent.
A footballer trains their muscle between ages 6 and 18. Qualities like speed of thought, accuracy, endurance, resistance, strength and skill have to be mastered between 6 and 18. Fact.
By the time one is 18, they would have reached the end of growth. (Fact). So if one is to excel in football he has to spend most of his teenage years on the field of training.
Unfortunately, this is also the time when this same guy is needed in the classroom. In the end, he/she has to make a difficult decision, that of choosing football ahead of formal education.
Those who mix football with formal education and excel in both are the rare ones. In conclusion, let’s not be too quick to judge these footballers.
They spent hours and hours practising so that you may be entertained. Please let’s not humiliate them.

Another controversial requirement for eligibility to become ZIFA president is that candidates must have been resident in Zimbabwe for at least two years prior to the election.

Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended following the release of video footage in which he is heard calling Jürgen Klopp a “German cunt” and referring to Liverpool as “shit.”
The remarks were made after a 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Burnley during Project Restart in 2020, where Coote described Klopp as “arrogant” and claimed he accused him of lying.
Just before his suspension, Coote officiated Liverpool’s recent 2-0 victory against Aston Villa.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), which is responsible for overseeing match officials in professional football in England, said:

In the footage, Coote expresses disdain for Klopp, labelling him “arrogant” and recalling a previous incident during a match against Burnley, where he felt Klopp accused him of lying.
Coote uses explicit language, referring to Klopp as a “German cunt” and criticising Liverpool’s performance in a game earlier that day.
The conversation was recorded by another man, who also made disparaging comments about Klopp and Liverpool fans.
In the video, Coote and the man imply they are breaching COVID regulations by sitting close together. In a separate clip, Coote asks not to share the original recording.
The discussion includes a still image of Coote on the touchline with Klopp during Liverpool’s 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa.
In Liverpool’s next match, Coote served as the video assistant referee when Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s challenge on Virgil van Dijk, which resulted in an anterior cruciate ligament injury, went unpunished.
Coote also faced criticism from Klopp as the VAR for the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal last December, where an apparent handball by Martin Ødegaard did not lead to a penalty.
Howard Webb, the chief refereeing officer for PGMOL, later said that the incident should have resulted in a spot-kick.
It is understood Liverpool feel it would be inappropriate to comment with an investigation underway
Under Coote’s officiating, Liverpool has won five, drawn one, and lost two of the eight matches he refereed during Klopp’s tenure as manager.

FC Wangu Mazodze’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) aspirations are hanging by a thread after a 0-0 draw against Tenax CS over the weekend.
Affectionately known as The Kingdom Boys, FC Wangu Mazodze were once leading the ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) with 14 points, but their position has since become precarious.
They are now just two points ahead of Triangle United and Tenax CS, who are in second and third place, respectively.
With 65 points from 29 games, FC Wangu Mazodze are closely followed by Triangle United, who also have 63 points from the same number of games.
Tenax CS, with one more game played, are tied on 63 points with Triangle United.
With only three games left in the season, Mazodze’s path to promotion to the Premier Soccer League is narrow, and they can afford little room for error.
In 2023, FC Wangu Mazodze missed out on promotion after drawing with Renco Mine FC on the final day.
Tenax FC also missed out on PSL promotion that year due to a board decision revealing they had fielded an unregistered player in their final match, which handed the promotion spot to Bikita Minerals FC instead.
Mazodze’s remaining fixtures include an away match against Mutare City Rovers and two crucial home games against St. Paul’s Musami FC and Surrey FC.

Kadewere Injured Again, Set Miss Warriors' AFCON Qualifiers

The Zimbabwe Football Association’s (ZIFA) Appeals Committee will meet on Thursday this week to review the case between Karoi United and Scottland FC.
Karoi United is appealing a decision by the ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) to award Scottland FC a 3-0 win from their abandoned match on September 15.
The match was called off in the 88th minute with the score tied at 1-1 after referee Mathew Dingo was reportedly hit by a missile and could not continue.
The NRSL charged Karoi United with causing the abandonment and awarded Scottland FC three points, which moved them to the top of the league.
Scottland FC secured the top spot in the NRSL with 87 points after a 3-1 win over Black Mambas on Friday, finishing two points ahead of second-placed MWOS.
ZIFA chief executive officer Yvonne Manwa formally acknowledged Karoi United’s appeal and notified them of the scheduled hearing. She wrote:

The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to inform you that your matter has been duly noted.
The Appeals Committee is provisionally scheduled to sit on the 14th of November at 11am.
