Musician Chief Hwenje has sought solace in his rural home at Shanyura village, Mapanzure, in the Midlands Province, as he battles a painful and difficult health crisis.

A raunchy dancer, known as Kim and the leader of the Spicy Angels dance group, is being sought by police for questioning after a video surfaced showing her engaging in oral sex with a reveller on stage at a nightclub in Epworth on Saturday.
Following the incident, which took place at Choggs Bar on Saturday night, the Dancers Association of Zimbabwe (DAZ) is considering revoking her licence.
Kim was summoned by the police and had promised to turn herself in, but she has since gone into hiding.

Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) is considering naming one of the streets at Mpandawana Growth Point after Solo naMutsai, a hit song by legendary musician Jonah Moyo.
The song, released in 1982, tells the romantic story of Solo and Mutsai, whose love and wedding in rural Gutu put Mpandawana on the map.
Jonah Moyo was recently awarded an honorary degree from Great Zimbabwe University for his contributions to social and cultural commentary through music, his role in co-founding sungura choreography, and innovation, and for nurturing music students.

In a recent interview with DJ Ollah on his podcast, Sandra, along with her sibling Selmor, shared these experiences growing up with their stepmother.

So when the house was done, I remember they called people from church for a farewell. That’s when I found out that they would be moving but I was not told the date when this would happen.
Then a few days later I met people in town telling me that they had seen my father around. So I thought that when I arrived home, I would find my parents at home.
When I got the house was empty. I was so touched. People had gone to their new home and I was left with the garden boy in an empty home.

She also claimed that when she was young, she felt like she was treated worse than the family maid. Said Sandra:

I remember the day, we were told that we were going to a party. As children, we were excited at this but then the next day, we saw only Sam and Samantha preparing for the party.
I, on the other hand, was given a heap of laundry I needed to do. We had a maid but somehow I felt I was below the maid. Even in the house, Sam and Samantha had their rooms that were well prepared but I shared one with the maid.

It was really painful and this is not just about the bedroom. It felt that I wasn’t appreciated or loved like the other children.
Sandra said that since their father was often on tour, it was hard for him to see the mistreatment they experienced. She felt that sometimes he appeared to be overwhelmed by Daisy.

She said their late father, Tuku, had high hopes for the family and wanted them to collaborate on a song before he died. Said Selmor:

Selmor paid tribute to her late half-brother Sam, saying he was a level-headed man. She said:

The exclusion is not only about Selmor, but all of Tuku’s daughters and family members.

It was a private college where I was learning with kids from rich backgrounds.
Things normalised after Dad contacted the principal to inform him about everything which was needed in school.

I stayed with Dad for a long time while she was with my stepmother after I finished school. I can’t lie, it was a difficult situation. A lot would happen.

I was not informed about the house, even though other children knew. After the house was done, Dad came to bid us farewell. I didn’t know the date they were moving out.

In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/mtukudzis-widow-opens-up-on-selmor-drama/">The Herald</a> on Sunday night, following Selmor’s abrupt departure from the stage during her first song at the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (OMIFA) at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton, Daisy said that “the drama” was beyond her control.
Selmor ended her performance almost immediately, despite being allocated a two-hour prime slot, while other performers had just under an hour.
Sandra Mtukudzi, Tuku’s eldest child and Selmor’s mother’s firstborn, was flown in from the United Kingdom by Daisy to attend the festival but was unable to persuade Selmor to complete her act. Selmor’s husband, Tendai Manatsa, also failed to convince her to continue.
Daisy said that while the world witnessed Selmor’s “drama”, she felt unfairly judged on social media. She said:

At least the world has witnessed all the drama. I know people will still attack me, but what have I done to deserve this embarrassment?

2. The biggest challenge often isn’t about who the other parent “picks.”

4. Parents who move into new relationships &amp; create new families tend to struggle to meet their previous obligations.
5. In the end, the previous relationships tend to break down &amp; evolve into mudslinging, estrangement, deprivation &amp; toxicity.
6. In many cases, the quality of the relationship between a parent &amp; child that’s retained following a divorce is dependent upon the social skills, insight, character &amp; integrity of the successor spouse in the new relationship.

Jonasi, a standup comedian, competed in the Season 19 and progressed to the semi-finals.

Zim Comedian Learnmore Jonasi Nearer To Winning US $1 Million As He Enters US TV Talent Show Finals

The government of Zimbabwe has reminded it’s licensees, Radio and TV broadcaster in Zimbabwe, that prophet and traditional healer adverts are banned.
The move suggests that broadcasters have largely ignored the Code of Conduct banning these ads that was put in place by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), in August 2023.
Broadcasters, even government owned ones, have for several years now featured Prophet and N’anga adverts on their programming.
<h2>Said BAZ in the statement:</h2>

PROHIBITION TO BROADCAST ADVERTISEMENTS ON PROPHETS AND TRADITIONAL HEALERS
This letter serves to remind you of the Authority’s directive to all broadcasters to stop the broadcasting of advertising content from churches and traditional healers and of traditional herbs and medicines which cannot be authenticated, since they tend to mislead the public.
Considering the Authority’s mandate to protect the interests of consumers, account being taken of the prohibition of such advertisements and infomercials in terms of Section 23 (a) &amp; (b) of the Broadcasting Services (Code of Conduct for Broadcasters) Regulations, 2023, as read with section 27(4)(e) of the Broadcasting Services (Licensing and Content) Regulations, 2004, all broadcasters are directed to discontinue the broadcasting of such content.
Please note that this directive does not stop the broadcasting of discussion programmes or debates which do not contain advertising content on these issue.

treatment and or healing through use of herbs or other objects by individuals, churches or organisations.

Violation of the ban attracts a penalty of $1,280 and failure of a broadcaster to pay the fine could result in the cancellation of their licence.
The ban affects broadcasters that are licensed by BAZ, but leaves out online technology platforms such Facebook, YouTube  and Intsagram. These platforms do not register with BAZ to operate in Zimbabwe and are generally considered technology providers and not broadcasters.
Media personalities that have huge following on these technology platforms are also not required to register with BAZ.

The Zimbabwe government has banned radio and TV stations from advertising prophets and traditional healers. This ban was put in place because these ads can mislead people. Broadcasters who do not follow this rule can be fined $1,280 or lose their license. The ban does not apply to online platforms like Facebook and YouTube because they are not registered with the government. Media personalities with big followings on these platforms also do not have to follow this rule.

One Hander International Theatre Festival Debuts In September

Renowned Zimbabwean musician Thomas Mapfumo, who is currently self-exiled in the United States, is demanding the return of five vehicles seized by police in 2000.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/standard-style/article/200031378/mapfumo-demands-return-of-seized-vehicles">The Standard</a> from the US, Mapfumo claimed that the allegations of him buying stolen BMWs were unfounded.
He said that the individuals who sold him the cars were still freely moving around Zimbabwe, suggesting that his arrest was unjustified.
Mapfumo further alleged that the seizure of his vehicles was politically motivated and that this incident ultimately led him to flee Zimbabwe for the United States in 2004. He said:

When they impounded my cars, the police claimed I had bought stolen cars. Surprisingly, George Shugo, who sold the cars to me, was never arrested.
They seemed intent on punishing me for my criticism of ZANU PF. The cars were simply parked at Morris Depot.
Due to continued persecution, I left Zimbabwe. My associate, Cuthbert Chirombo, was called to take the cars because no one had come forward to claim ownership.
Chirombo went to see the cars and arranged to pick them up a week later. Unfortunately, when he returned, the cars were missing.

The Chimurenga musician said despite the seizure of the cars on allegations they were stolen, no one was ever charged. He said:

I never stole cars, and no one was ever charged. I want my cars back, and the case is with my lawyers.
My lawyer, Warara, said they want me to return to Zimbabwe and present my case. That could be a trap by Mnangagwa’s regime.

Mapfumo claims that his vocal criticism of the late former president Robert Mugabe’s administration led to his persecution, ultimately forcing him to flee Zimbabwe.

Gospel musician Mathias Mhere has defended the inclusion of hip hop artiste, Voltz JT, whose real name is Nkosilathi Sibiya, on his album launch next month.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/were-all-sinners-mhere-defends-voltz-jts-inclusion/">H-Metro</a>, Mhere’s highly anticipated album is set to be launched on September 6. While the event will feature renowned gospel artists like Fungisayi, Jonah Chivasa, and Dorcas Moyo, the inclusion of Mbeu and Voltz JT, a hip-hop artist, has drawn criticism from some members of the public.
Responding to the backlash on social media, Mhere defended his decision, saying that he neither judges nor selects other artists. Said Mhere:

Yes Voltz JT is not a gospel artiste; he is a hip hop artiste but the music industry is one. We are a family and it’s good that we unite with everyone in the industry and show love.

We have already started working on videos, the plan is to have 5 videos by launch.
The plan is to have a big presence on digital platforms and also flash drives, there will be a few CDs on sale because there are still a few people who still listen to CD music but flash drives will be plenty at the launch. 
We are getting something meaningful from digital, online platforms like Amazon, YouTube, and iTunes while we are also earning some revenues from live shows.
At the end of the month, you will have something worth staying in the industry.

Mhere said he has been fortunate to retain most of his band members for extended periods and also revealed that his upcoming 11th gospel album features collaborations with three different artists. He said:

I do not have a favourite song as yet but there are three tracks which are collaborations with Jah Prayzah, Mbeu and what I would call Mathias Mhere and Friends.
The collabo with Jah Prayzah is titled Ndini Here, which is about a person who has been lifted from a troubled past.
The song with Mbeu is about child abuse while the one with friends is done the way Reverend Chivariro did Ebenezer.
On the track I feature the likes of Bethen Pasinawako, Dorcas Moyo, Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Jonah Chivasa, Sebastian Magacha and Prince Chigwida. Everyone comes in with verses.

Sungura musician Alick Macheso says it’s impossible to please everyone, particularly in light of the criticism surrounding his new album, Kupa Kuturika, released on August 2, 2024.
Macheso has chosen a unique strategy for this six-track album, opting to release songs individually; currently, four tracks are available on his YouTube channel.
Critics have expressed their disappointment, with some labelling him “a spent force” who now relies on past successes and has lost the magic that once made him a superstar.
Conversely, his devoted fans have praised the new release as a masterful work of art.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/macheso-exclusive-interview-finally-speaks-about-new-album-says-criticism-makes-him-stronger-adresses-trending-rufaro-incident/">H-Metro</a>‘s Rest Mutore, Macheso said that criticism fuels his motivation to improve as an artist and encourages him to continue working hard. What I only condemn are sponsored critics, there are others who never see anything good in Macheso or this other artist.
You can actually see that this is orchestrated, because it’s the same people, using the same way.
They always say good about you when they want to sell their content. Today the same person is saying Macheso is a legend, tomorrow it’s the opposite.
And they do it by mentioning other artist’s name, I will not mention names because we are used to this. I have been in this game for so long.

Macheso also said that he does not compare himself to other musicians, especially in light of critics who claim that a new generation of sungura artists, including Mark Ngwazi, is taking over the genre. He said:

I am not and was never in music for competition. Ndiripo kurwisa mumunda mangu, ndoti ah tarira bagwe ririmo iro. This issue of comparison has seen a number of musicians with potential failing to make it over the years.
This is not new, it happened before but I am still here. It is happening now, and the time will come kana Mwari vatichengeta, you will come with the same question, ndoti honaka Mutore, I am still here.
We sing for the same audience and it is always important to embrace each other, taking the rivalry or competition path ndaona zvisina kuperera vamwe zvakanaka.
Besides the so called (music) analysts, I have also seen other artists or their camps doing these comparisons, well it’s their strategies we no issues with it but that doesn’t stop of us from sharing our experiences.
Artists can’t make comparisons or blow their own trumpets because they are not the owners of this work (music), let’s leave it to our fans.
If you do that, there is a problem and it shows you are immature, isu tobva tati uri mafikizolo, because those with experience won’t do that.
An artist should compete with his or her own work and aim to be better in every new project.

In response to commentators who say his music has evolved over the years, Macheso likened it to cars: while the model may change, the essence of the brand remains constant. He said:

Let me give you an example of clothing, are you wearing the same design those who lived in the early 80s used to wear?
Cars are even evolving but it’s the same brand and still, others cry for the old model, that’s the nature of life as well.
That is the same with music, so should I reproduce Shedia or Charakupa nekuti yakanakidza?
The good thing is the songs are still there and they can still listen to them, but we have to give them new music.
The same people who are saying give us Chikwambo, we want that, are the same people who will say ah chazopera manje chitubu chiya, chazopwa.
I have made two steps forward and someone wants me to make 3 000 steps backwards, ndenge ndichiitei.
What I’m saying is we have our own formation at Orchestra Mberikwazvo, it’s the same with football.
And, when the coach realised that the formation is now familiar, he changes and finds another winning formula, because the idea is to always win.
Those who remain stuck in the past become punching bags. On that issue, I would say tiri bho pahu wrong hwedu.
As an artist, you should not be predictable.

Mambo Dhuterere Prepares To Release New Album "Kudenga Kuna Manuwere"

Legendary sungura musician Alick Macheso revealed that in the early 1980s when he first arrived in Harare from Shamva, he would trap and roast mice, which he would then sell at liquor outlets in and around the Dzivaresekwa suburb, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/standard-style/article/200030757/i-sold-mice-for-survival-macheso">The Standard</a>.
Macheso shared this anecdote on Friday while commissioning a solar-powered borehole in Dzivaresekwa Extension.
The borehole project was funded by Pacific Cigarette Company and the local arts hub, Jive Zimbabwe. Said Macheso:

When I was staying here in Dzivarasekwa 2, these areas were my hunting grounds.
This area (Dzivarasekwa Extension) was bushes and l would come here to trap or dig up mice for selling to make ends meet.
It was in 1983 when l had just come from Shamva.

Macheso also revealed that he would go fishing in the nearby river where his catches “surprised many”.
He urged parents to support their children, who would have exhibited talent in music. Said Macheso:

So for those saying he is a spent force, I find them maybe having a bone to chew with him.
But, you cannot pull a good man down. Here we are talking of an artist who, beyond his musical career, has helped many disadvantaged sections of our society. That is how we must measure Baba Shero.
Music is not just about dancing and twerking, but what it brings to the common and ordinary man from Bikita.

Sungura music legend Alick Macheso on Saturday reminded Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire about a haulage truck that the minister had promised the musician almost two years ago.

On Saturday, August 3, at the launch of Macheso’s 13th album “Kupa Kuturika” at the Alex Sports Club in Harare, the sungura star reminded Machakaire about the unfulfilled promise.
Macheso raised the issue just after Machakaire had gifted the musician with $10,000 – half for Macheso himself and the other half for his band.
Before handing over the wad of US dollar notes to Macheso’s management, Machakaire said:

So all Baba Shero fans, let us show everyone that we are a team. Let us switch on our [mobile phone] torches and salute Baba Shero.

The minister then held the microphone close to Macheso, allowing the musician to directly remind Machakaire about the promised haulage truck. Said Macheso:

Pano apa ndangopiwa mathousand asi vakandivimbisa kuti rori riri munzira ririkuuya [Here I have just been given thousands [of US dollars], but he promised me a [haulage] truck?]
</blockquote>
Machakaire rushed to cover up the issue, saying he was committed to fulfilling the promise. He said:

Vanonyora musanyore zvekunyepa, Baba Shero ishamwari yangu. Rori ravo ririkuuya asi handisi kutaura pano apa. [Journalists, don’t write lies. Baba Shero is my friend. His truck is on its way, but I don’t mean right here.

Alick Macheso reminded Minister Machakaire about a truck promise. The promise was made after a performance at the Hwedza Arts Festival in December 2022. Macheso Reminds Machakaire Of Unfulfilled Haulage Truck Promise

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has cleared renowned Zimbabwean musician Alick Macheso to hold the launch of his new album “Kupa Kuturika” at the Alexander Sports Club in Harare on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Initially, there were concerns that the police could potentially ban the event due to fears of potential unrest during the SADC Industrialisation Week, which is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 2.
However, Chief Superintendent Godfrey Moyo, the Officer Commanding Harare District, has advised Macheso’s team that the police will closely monitor the album launch event to ensure it proceeds without incident. He said:

Please confine your event to the above-stated venue and times outlined. Make sure that no Zimbabwean laws are violated. The police will monitor.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-police-clear-machesos-album-launch">The Sunday Mail</a>, Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager Tich Makahamadze pledged to adhere to the conditions of the clearance. He said:

We understand people from across the region are in the country for the regional event and we will do our best.

Macheso’s 13th studio album, “Kupa Kuturika”, features six tracks: “Kuverengera”, “Undiregererewo”, “Zvichada Hama”, “Murangarire”, “Kunditaya”, and “Hunhu Hwakashata”.
The album was produced at Macheso’s Alema Music Studios in Chitungwiza by Bothwell Nyamhodera, with Aaron Tomu serving as the audio engineer.
The album launch will feature a star-studded lineup of supporting acts which includes youthful musicians Saintfloew, Andy Muridzo, Feli Nandi, Enzo Ishall, and the Chillspot Records clique led by hype-man DJ Fantan.
Furthermore, Macheso’s own sons, Esau and Tatenda, who lead the popular Cheso Boys band, will also feature.
The launch of Macheso’s 12th album “Tinosvitswa Nashe” in 2022 at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex was a massive success, with reports of thousands of fans being turned away due to capacity constraints.
