ZPRA Veterans Warn Of Serious Consequences If Constitution Is Amended

The Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZPRA) Veterans Association has warned that amending the National Constitution to allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa a third term could lead to severe consequences, including bloodshed.

At a press conference on Thursday at the Bulawayo Media Centre, ZPRA Veterans Association National Spokesperson Buster Magwizi voiced support for fellow war veterans who recently opposed the proposed extension of Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028. Said Magwizi (via CITE):

Our solidarity is not just a message of solidarity. It is an expanded contribution to political correctness.

The veterans who stood out in a press briefing last week led by Blessed Runesu Geza in Harare were very correct because no one else dares to advise the government correctly on what to do or the leadership on what is straight and what is crooked. We hold the sanctity of the constitution sacrosanct.

Magwizi criticized those who dismissed the veterans who spoke in Harare as “mad, crazy, and biased,” accusing them of seeking to benefit from corruption.

He was referring to Douglas Mahiya, the ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans, Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees, and Restrictees.

Mahiya argued that Geza’s sentiments did not represent the position of war veterans but were pushing a foreign agenda to cause disharmony within the party.

Deputy National Spokesperson for the ZPRA Veterans Association, Joakim Moyo, condemned the push for a third term, calling it fraudulent and a direct assault on the constitution. Said Moyo:

There has been a litany of injustices which make us sick as ZPRA veterans. We have always stood as people advocating for political correctness, and we are prepared to go down, dying doing the same thing.

We are a people who want to adhere to the Constitution as a national guide and live by it. The spirit and the flesh of it should be observed by everyone, regardless of size.

Probably let me get down to the constitution and say, we stand ready to defend the constitution of Zimbabwe, and would like to warn all those pushing the 2030 mantra that it is fraudulent.

The current constitution was arrived at as a nationally driven issue. Everybody was consulted and everybody spoke.

And our constitution observed the democratic principles that underlie what you call a democracy.

Who told you that Zipra forces were Ndebelez? There's no Ndebele politics in ZAPU. Even the ZAPU leadership is non-Ndebele right now. For your info many Ndebelez do not subscribe to Zim politics.

Getting into Zanu pf intra party dynamics is akin to be part of it. Zanu pf is towards self destruction, let's support it. This 2030 agenda is not national it's Zanu pf. Instead these war veterans should focus on reforms to support free and fair elections, because Zanu pf is not Zimbabwe. Popularizing this "change aripo 2030" is just nonsense. Ngaite ma elections izvezvi tisvasvange. 2030 is not a sturdy road ndo pachaperera Zanu pf. Those who embrace it, actual don't love Mnangagwa.

In a family the father should be accountable for everything he does if he fails his brothers and close relative should or are suppose to question him so same as the president he should be accountable. Failure to do so the lawmakers and arms of the state should question him or her

@PVC.If the brothers have no grey matter between the ears what do you expect of them.In Zanu PF you see no evil, and hear no evil and talk no evil. You are allowed to be a praise singer no how many degrees you have you have to pretend to be stu.pid.

The President of the gave you all the liberty to critisize, for he knows he can correct that cause he is at the helms of the office So critics are very much welcome that's democracy but office will still be his, simple

He will go when he wants to. No one except God will remove him. The plans to remove him can only work if God allows them to succeed. Otherwise, let's enjoy the journey to 2030.

What is this journey? Driving through the potholes on roads that were meant to be fixed? By the time we get there, the vehicle will be in tatters. Zimbabwe is rotten.

Nonsensical assement typical of Zanoid, the entire povo doesn't want anything to do with term extensions, what notable thing has been accomplished since 2018 that can justify a term extension even the Vision 2030 dream is just pure hogwash which is only believed by brainless individuals like yourself.

naked truth is that those singing for "2030 Anenge Achipo" are are fly-by-night bigmen beneficiaries who wants to extend their length of benefitting behind a single guy they want to force us to agree that he is working yet nothing is happening. Izvezvi vakuda kutengesa ma long broke parastatals to raise money yet zimbabwe is rich in Minerals. Mari yezvicherwa ikuenda kupi? Muhomwe dzevese vakuimba "2030 Anenge achipo" Ko rufu rukatanga
Anonymous · 2 months ago
Who will they sell these state assets to? Are minerals not state assets? If they are all sold to the Mutapa Fund, hypothetically, if they lose, they will still be in control as they as the board members of the Mutapa Fund will control all state assets. The government will be on paper only, as they will not be able to supply power, utilise natural resources, etc., as Mutapa Fund will control the Hwange power station, through the "upgrade deals". No government should be allowed to sell state assets to themselves in their private capacity.
