Government Plans To Recruit Over 8,000 Teachers In 2025

The government plans to recruit over 8,000 teachers next year to reduce the teacher-pupil ratio.

This was said by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerai Moyo, in an interview with The Herald. Moyo said:

In 2024 we recruited more than 5,000 teachers. That has tremendously reduced the high teacher-pupil ratio.

With more support in 2025, we expect to recruit more than 8,000 so that we can reduce the teacher-pupil ratio to around 1:30 or 35.

Moyo said that teachers in remote areas who usually travel long distances to work are set to benefit from hardship allowances. Said Moyo:

There is a hardship allowance because we know some of the schools are located quite a distance from the living quarters.

Where teachers might be walking a kilometre or more, we tend to provide a hardship allowance.

Moyo also said 150 rural schools have been solar-powered, with more earmarked for the coming year. He said:

We used to have quite a number of disparities in terms of access to education, and opportunities to access digital tools and some schools did not even have electricity, but the Government has solarised some of the schools supported by UNICEF.

We receive support from the fiscus where we are allocated funds towards teaching learning materials. About 150 schools were solarised this year.

Moyo said they have also decentralized the recruitment of teachers, allowing even the most competent people to be deployed to rural areas.

He added that teachers usually prefer to work in schools near their homes, and in some cases, they might even choose to work from their homes.

That is why tax is now being collected more aggressively than ever before. That is the only way the government could raise the money for salaries.

Yes, we even benefit more in terms of diaspora remittance if we export our teachers to those countries. The teachers will take the money and invest it in Zimbabwe.

Mthuli in his budget is clear kuti hakuna mari. he even directed gvt to freeze recruitments. 8000 teachers are clearly burdensome to the economy in its presnt state. however, understand how zanu keeps people hoping for the best...its a promise likely to be accompanied by another currency change. the three months leading to December have been characterized by late payment of salaries for civil servants. banks had to pay civil servants from with their own money and wait for gvt to settle the debt in due course. imagine thats the gvt we now have. its broke from looting. Those ediots understand well that with the expected drought coming in 2025 the economy is going to perfome worse than in previous years. the gvt will be on its knees without political pressure.

Governments the world over are not profit making in that they have no companies from which they collect some profits. They only make laws and policies which are conducive for private companies to thrive and they benefit from taxes and small royalties. Now, what is happening in Zimbabwe is legitimate looting in that people register legitimate companies and often partner with the infamous Chinese to exploit minerals worth billions of dollars and ship them out of the country, yes they are allowed to do that by our own policies and what do we get from that? Primitive employment, 15% corporate tax and insurance royalties. They partner with politicians because none of our people are courageous enough to take on the mining enterprises simply because they are anti Zanu Pf government. The Zanu Pf people simply take on the plundering ventures which failed to attract Patriot people and enjoy themselves. All the other anti Zanu pf people see is looting and reckless plundering of resources but they are only doing it within the limits of what is permissible and mostly within the limits of the laws and policies. Yes they are allowed to take their profits to their own countries because it is their money which they invested in the first place. Infact, they own the means of production, they own the infrastructure, they control their money as they enjoy our resources in the name of business enterprise. That is why all diamond was taken to China and Russia straight from Chiadzwa but our earnings as a government ever reached a billion dollars in all those years, because the government never owned any of the mining companies which were very much private entities. The time we realized that we should control diamond mining as shareholders the mining dump was almost depleted and we gave away at least 15billion dollars worth of unpolished diamonds because there was an investor from China who took on the opportunity, payed cooperate tax and took all the diamond to be under his control. Legitimate yet we call it looting, No....
