Hwange Power Station Fault Forces ZESA To Increase Load Shedding

ZESA Holdings, the national power utility, is implementing increased load-shedding schedules across Zimbabwe due to reduced electricity generation capacity at the Hwange Thermal Power Station.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, ZESA explained that a technical issue that occurred at the Hwange Thermal Power Station’s 300 MW Unit 8 has resulted in a generation shortfall on the national grid. Reads the statement:

ZESA Holdings would like to inform its valued customers that the national power grid is currently experiencing reduced electricity generation capacity due to a technical challenge that occurred at the Hwange Thermal Power Station’s Unit 8.

As a result of this generation shortfall, the utility has had to implement increased load shedding schedules across the country in order to balance electricity supply and demand.

Our technical teams are frantically working on resolving the fault so as to minimize the impact on customers.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding during this period.

According to an update provided by the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) earlier on Saturday, August 24, the Hwange Thermal Power Station was generating only 635 MW of electricity. This represents a significant decline from the over 1,000 MW it was producing before August 21.

They are selling the power to other countries. Same like it was with Namibia and then they claimed that they "owed" them power, after it was exposed that they were sending power. They are still making businesses buy overpriced diesel to run their generators so they are making money all the way. None of which benefits local. Watch this space. They will be claiming an increase on electricity soon, because they are not "getting" money.

ZvimaGetsi zvakaora, they should privatise, tariffs will increase but at least we will know that they will be a steady supply not this current situation where there isn't anything at all. A steady electricity supply is needed for industrialization, yet you hear stories about Vision 2030, how does that happen when we can't even spend a month without load shedding

All these are lies Rather they are just going to sell to Zambia. Below is a Statement posted here on Pindula exactly weeks ago; and I quote "ZESCO Limited has negotiated the procurement of 218 MW of power from Eskom, South Africa, and Zimbabwe Power Company… The electricity procured from the two companies is expected to be injected into the grid within the month of August." Now, isn't this the month of August they talked about? Tenge tichi follower maEVENTS closely vamwe muchingo wawata henyu zvenhando, mahara There's no fault there, but just remember Units 7 & 8 were built by the Chinese, hence, the guys sell were there's Cash readily available ZESA actually buys electricity which is generated from those two Units
