Dynamos Vice Chairman Sacked After Khama Billiat Comments

Dynamos Football Club has fired vice chairman Vincent Chawonza from his post for gross misconduct with immediate effect.

Chawonza recently sparked controversy following his scathing criticism of Khama Billiat’s management team after the player snubbed Dynamos and joined Yadah Stars.

In a statement issued on Friday, 23 February, titled “Disengagement of Mr Vincent Chawonza as Vice Chairman of Dynamos Football Club”, Dynamos said:

Dynamos Football Club would like to inform the football fraternity on the disengagement of Mr Vincent Chawonza as Vice Chairman of the club.
The disengagement which is with immediate effect has been occasioned by the need for members of the Executive Committee to uphold good workmanship and respect club protocol in the discharge of their duties.

The club would like to thank Mr Chawonza for the services he rendered to the club during his tenure.

Chawonza’s sacking came after he accused Billiat’s management team of ill-advising him to make poor choices detrimental to his career. He said:

People who are around him (Billiat) are ill-advising him. I think the blame goes to his managers, starting with the decision not to renew his stay at Kaizer Chiefs.
He wasn’t supposed to leave Kaizer Chiefs in the first place. We tabled a similar offer as Yadah, but they were swift and gave him cash on Tuesday when he arrived…
I think he listens too much to the people who are around him, yet they are ill-advising him. As a player, he has made some decisions that I did not expect of him.
But it all boils down to his management because they are not leading him well. He was the one who initiated talks with us during George Chigova’s funeral.

Dynamos were expecting Billiat in the country on Thursday but were surprised when the CAF Champions League winner touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Tuesday night.

He was welcomed by Yadah officials led by the club’s chief executive officer Admire Mango and chairman Everson Chatambudza.

deserved the sacking after such reckless attack on a player's choice of clubs and work ethics. he was supposed to simply accept losing the player to a better paying club and deal , and not be vindictive as in this case. common sense is very vital sometimes .

Pane zvaakataura hapana chekunyepa, Khama was better off at Dynamos he was going to be afforded a chance to showcase his skills on the continental stage. Also refusing to sign a contract at Kaizer Chiefs iye munhu asina plan was a no brainer.

As much as he was wrong in his comments i don't think think that he deserved a sacking maybe a public apology would have been better, to all those who are close to Dynamos operations they will tell that we have lost a very good negotiator of contracts & player tranfsfers, but as we all know everything in Zim is political even Dynamos, Yadah & Magaya are all zanurised so this is normal

Many football fans and commentators expressed surprise after the PSL fixed the match Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium as one of the Matchday One fixtures. PSL chairman Farai Jere has since confirmed that the move was deliberate to defuse tensions between the two clubs. As reported by ZimLive, Jere said having the fixture later on in the season adds to unnecessary tensions, especially when both clubs are in contention for the league title. He said: That was a deliberate move. We want to raise the cost of having violence at Barbourfields every time Dynamos plays with Highlanders. If that happens, both teams will be fined heavily. We wanted this match played early in the season because we cannot allow two clubs to be holding the entire league at ransom, to bring the whole league into disrepute. We want that match to be the first of the season, any problem that happens there serious fines will be issued. We want them to conscientise their fans that it’s a game of football and we don’t want any violence. We are very much interested in that match. For the first time, I’m positive that it’s going to be a violence-free match at the end of the 90 minutes. In the last two seasons, the Battle of Zimbabwe descended into chaos as football hooligans ran the show at Barbourfields Stadium resulting in both clubs being fined. The two clubs forfeited a match each following hearings by the PSL disciplinary committee. The 2024 season gets underway on Saturday, 24 February, when champions Ngezi Platinum play Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos in the Castle Challenge Cup.
