Zimbabweans Dying Miserably, Prematurely Because They Have No Pensions, Says Chin'ono

Award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono says Zimbabweans are dying prematurely because the majority do not have pensions benefits.

Chin’ono said that millions of Zimbabweans that do menial jobs in South Africa and in other countries, as well as millions of others at home, do not have pensions.

He argued that as a result, in old age, most people will not have access to healthcare, especially those who do not have kids to look after them, thus leading to premature death.

Chin’ono says Zimbabwe’s dysfunctional economy and high rate of employment mean that millions will never be formally employed in their lives and won’t have pensions in old age. He said:

Most people in Zimbabwe are dying miserable deaths because if they have no kids to look after them, they won’t be able to afford the most basic thing they need the most in old age, HEALTH CARE.

I have observed that many Zimbabweans pay towards their funeral plan instead of their pensions.

This has been caused by a dead economy and a pension system that is not worth the paper it is written on.

Politicians running for office should talk more about these issues because they affect everyone, young and old.

The millions of Zimbabweans that do menial jobs in South Africa and beyond don’t have pensions.

You can’t have a country without a pension system, but that is what Zimbabwe has become.

That is why I always ask our politicians to engage in the substantive issues that affect us the people who will vote.

PENSIONS are one of the key issues that must be talked about at every rally or in every interview.

Zimbabweans are being sent early to their graves because they don’t have pensions.

Do you have a pension? If you don’t, why not? The politicians running for office should address that fundamental issue that is actually a human right for anyone who has ever worked!

Without a pension, you will have a miserable and painful end unless your kids look after you.

The tragedy is that my generation will have kids that have never worked their whole life. It is a double tragedy!!!

Unfortunately, most of the young generation do not know what a pension is. Most people who worked for many decades contributing to pension funds and saving money in banks had all the pension contributions and savings wiped out due to the way the financial system has been run. Banks which closed also affected people's finances All those savings, including insurance policy values were lost. The energy and sweat of millions is no longer available to those millions, and those who never sweated benefited from it.

How can that be addressed at a rally? We love rallies where we are told about a million houses and spaghetti roads, at a rally its one way communication, only the candidate speaks and all we do is mhururu nemiridzo. If politicians engaged smaller groups like what Nkosana Moyo was doing there would be a chance to hear what the voter really aspires for. But then we laughed at Nkosana, that because he does not have chaunga he has to do one on one. So now who is the d, umb a.ss? Democracy never works where the majority is ignorant and consists of praise and worship singers who never tolerate any criticism of their preferred candidate. In democracy you hold your elected officials to account and not praise and worship them.

☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️ @Daddy_Hope is alway correct & spot on. Politicians must not ask for old people's votes if they don't care about old people's social welfare. Pensions are savings & insurence for the future of every worker. Even young people must take this issue seriously & demand jobs from politicians who want office. Political Manifestos must include the issue of pensions & public welfare. In SA old people, and the unemployed without means of income, are given SASSA grants as part of social welfare. Healthcare & education for poor South Africans is free. Revenue from Lithium can provide for social welfare & healtcare . Dambudziko nderekuti we have corrupt Zanu Pf politians who loot workers pensions. We also have a secret society opposition which spends all its time Tweeting senseless things on Twitter, instead of proffering policy alternatives that will ensure social security & pensions. I'm yet to hear CCC talk about policies. Substance zero. Ingori Ambiguity yega yega. Hanzi tinozobirwa ma-Ideas neZanu. Its good if good are ideas are copied. as long as the people benefit. I'm yet to hear what the CCC is offering? Basa kungoti "A New Zimbabwe is Loading" paTwitter. Tsvangirai used to print his manifestos & distribute them. His ideas were clear and relatable.
