Makhadzi Show: Promoter Blames "Rowdy" Fans For Chaos

The organisers of South African musician Makhadzi’s show, which ended prematurely in Mutare on Good Friday, have blamed “rowdy” fans for the chaos.

Makhadzi was escorted from the stage at the Manicaland Motoring Club after fans threw bottles and cans into the VIP enclosure.

The event organiser, Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, denied reports that fans were angered by Makhadzi’s use of backtracks during her performance which was supposed to be live. Said Chimbodza:

Well, I would like to put the record straight regarding what happened in Mutare.

Firstly, I would like to apologise to Makhadzi and her team for being caught in the fracas.

When Makhadzi appeared on stage, fans jostled to catch a glimpse of her and broke barricades demarcating the VIP enclosure and ordinary side.

This did not go down well with fans in the VIP and the pushing and shoving resulted in bottles being thrown towards the VIP section.

It obviously appeared as if they were targeting Makhadzi but in the few minutes she performed, people were very happy.

He urged local fans to be respectful of artists and organisers as violence at shows will destroy the music industry.

Makhadzi, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, has been to Zimbabwe before.

Last year she performed at the inaugural JamAfro Festival at Alex Sports Club in Harare, and five months later, she performed at Odyssey Lodge in Kadoma.

Mr Chipaz, be truthful to everyone, including to yourself about the real cause so that such incidences will not occur again at your shows and any of Makhadzi's future shows in Zimbabwe.
