No Extra Lessons Over School Holidays - Government

The ministry of primary and secondary education has announced that there will be no extra lessons over the school holidays.

In a statement ministry of primary and secondary education, permanent secretary Mrs Tumisang Thabela said the ministry came to the decision, as lessons were not interrupted during the term. The Chronicle cites Mrs Thabela as saying:

This decision is informed by the fact that lessons have not been interrupted this term hence the need to give pupils time to rest.

Some schools in Zimbabwe have been offering extra lessons during school holidays to help students catch up or get ahead.

For years, there have been discussions and policies in Zimbabwe regarding the regulation of extra lessons.

In 2019, the Zimbabwean government announced that they would be banning all forms of extra lessons and holiday schools, to promote equal opportunities and reduce the burden on parents to pay for additional education.

Some schools and or teachers have, however, continued with extra lessons.

If the Ministry once discouraged the practice in 2019 with no compliance n enforcement, does it make sense to say it again now? The same goes with payment of exam fees in forex. Just shut up n let teachers think outside the box n make our children pass. After all don't want to pay them. Useless Perm Sec. Your Minister n Zanu Of. Better u go hang. Vote Chamisa.

To me extra lessons are good coz they helping kidz looking at the pass rate ever since parents started them. Parents and guardians are happy with their kids performance from extra lessons, I think it's wise to let those who afford extra lessons pay for them...

Extra lessons are a social evil that needs to be nipped on the buds. Children education should progress under the one equal footing. Extra lessons are creating a social class of haves and the have nots that leaves the poor children frustrated. I think any extra lesson should be reported to the authorities as soon as they emerge.
