Cyclone Freddy: Schools In Affected Areas To Suspend Lessons
Cabinet has resolved that schools in areas affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy will suspend lessons on Friday.
Speaking during a Post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare this Tuesday, Information, Broadcasting and Publicity Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said:
Boarding schools to remain open but suspend lessons in the affected areas on Friday to reduce the movement of pupils and should gather students in buildings or dormitories with secure roofs.
FeedbackThe briefing came after the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe warned that Tropical Cyclone Freddy will bring heavy rainfall and strong winds.
In a weather alert seen by Pindula News, MSD said the former Tropical Cyclone Freddy, currently an Overland Depression is set to enter the waters of the Mozambique Channel at 1700hrs today.
MSD said as early as Thursday evening into Friday morning, the spinning cloud bands, of Tropical Storm Freddy, are anticipated to cause localized heavy rains (above 65mm) and strong winds (reduced to less than 40 knots) in districts such as Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, Beitbridge, Chivi, Masvingo Rural, Zaka and Bikita.
