"There Can Never Be True Unity Without True Dialogue" - Chamisa

Nelson Chamisa who leads the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party has said there can never be true unity in Zimbabwe without true dialogue.

He made the remarks in commemoration of Unity Day celebrated annually on the 22nd of December.

In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services said Zimbabweans need each other. He said:

MAKING ZIMBABWE A WINNING NATION..

We will unite all Zimbabweans across politics, race &tribe. Unity wins peace &prosperity for nations. Unity thrives nations. There can never be true unity without true dialogue &love. We need each other. Unity is good for us all &for a thriving economy.

Unity Day is a holiday in Zimbabwe that is celebrated in Zimbabwe on 22 December to mark the anniversary of the Unity Accord, an agreement signed between ZANU and ZAPU in 1987 to officially put an end to Gukurahundi in Matabeleland and Midlands.

Gukurahundi, as it is commonly known, was an operation that was allegedly carried out by Mugabe’s government to track down former ZIPRA combatants who deserted Zimbabwe’s integrated military with weapons in protest over lack of equal treatment with those who waged the war under Mugabe’s ZANLA.

It is estimated that 20 000 civilians died at the hands of the Zimbabwe military during the dark period.

Civic society groups and political parties Thursday criticised the government for failing to acknowledge post-independence atrocities such as Gukurahundi and election-related killings.

Since 2018, Chamisa has been refusing dialogue with president Emmerson Mnangagwa or to join the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) forum saying there was no genuine dialogue that would come out of the engagements.

Political analysts have been calling for dialogue saying it could help in the resolution of the economic, humanitarian and political crises in the southern African country.

It is true that genuine dialogue brings in Unity. There is no unity where other citizens are prohibited from celebrating Gukurahundi activities. Zinbabwe shall have unity when Zimbabwe is United. Zinbabwe wants true dialogue and not POLAD dialogue. It is polarised. True dialogue needs an independent chairman. [ VOTE CHAMISA CHETE CHETE ]. True dialogue means doing away with big brother mentality, it means everyone has a contribution to make which means there is no big and small political parties or personalities. Chamisa refused to join polad because he felt the other participants were too small. One does not need 2mln votes to think rationally or to have great ideas. Fadzayi Mahere lost in the Mt Pleasant elections not because she does not have what it takes but because the voters chose a party not a true people's representative. Good that you are waking up now. No citizen should be more equal than others.

@Machiavelli. keep on dreaming gyz that we are in a democracy, thinking kuti elections will do miracles for u. The whole system is designed for Zanu pf rule u educated fools and it needs a revolution to overthrow the regime rather than kutemba 2023. Recently cde Oppah Muchinguri vakati haiende ne ball point wani. Ma elections muno anongoitirwa kuvhara International community bedzi. A political system like that one of China led by the Communist party is the most ideal at the moment. These oppostion parties are bringing more chaos and oppression in this country as the regime tries all the tricks in the book to remain in power.

just accept the one party state principle cde Chamisa and join Zanu pf bcoz u don't have the capacity and the means to overthrow the system except your urban vote only. Of which it doesn't give u any significant majority in parliament. ED and Zanu pf will continue to rig the Elections and continue to capture state institutions to retain power. The rural folks will continue to be intimidated and vote buying will continue through the input facility till amen. No space for Western type democracy in Zim except only the Zimbabwean democracy type. Just accept this reality and things will work for u.

How will a One-Party-State work for me?

@patriot I find your reasoning warped and convoluted. Tell me. how would Chamisa's joining ZANU stop ZANU from rigging elections? How will Chamisa in ZANU stop ZANU from capturing state institutions? How will Chamisa working inside ZANU stop vote buying? Will Chamisa's joining ZANU stop ZANU from intimidating people? What is this "Zimbabwe type of Democracy" that you propose? How does it work? I will tell you one nugget of advice for free. One-Party-State is really unfettered dictatorship without accountability, without checks and balances. It is the rule of the elite, by the elite for the elite ad infinitum, ad nauseam. One-Party-State is the complete antithesis of democracy- it is a kleptocratic, despotic dictatorship. As they say in Russian, "Vori v zakone" (Theft by statute).
