ZESA Planning To Move Bulawayo Power Station To Hwange

The government says it has secured funding to enable small thermal power stations, that is, Bulawayo, Harare, and Munyati, to generate more electricity to ease the current energy crisis.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Energy and Power Development Minister Soda Zhemu, said:

Munyati power station has a capacity of 90 megawatts (MW), Bulawayo produces 100MW, and Harare around 200MW.

They have been producing less, and we are working on Bulawayo station to produce around 90 to 100MW, and funding has been secured for that.

Soda also said the government was considering moving Bulawayo thermal station to Hwange, to avoid future coal supply challenges.

On Wednesday, 14 December 2022, the Zimbabwe Power Company was generating a total of 537MW.

Hwange was generating 366MW, Kariba 171MW, Harare, Bulawayo and Munyati were generating nothing. | The Sunday Mail

it's more expensive by far relocating than just ferry the coal to the power stations..makamboita seiko vanhu imi.....zuroriya makatengesa ma Steam Locomotives aishanda good good for this purpose nhasi mavakuda kutoputsa zvakavakwa kare mozovakisa ma China!!!

more importantly how does Zimbabwe buy 500 mw from south Africa is there somekind of cell capable of storage of up to 500mw or they just connect the national grid to these countries

What do they mean? If its a coal issue, coal for Munyati and Harare power stations will be passing less than a kilometre away from Bulawayo power station on its way from Hwange. Looks like it will be asset stripping big time!
