Zimbabwe Continues To Back Russia - Mudenda

Zimbabwe continues to support Russia despite its invasion of Ukraine and annexation of part of its neighbour’s territory, Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda has said.

Russia recently conducted referendums in Ukraine’s breakaway eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as well as parts of the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia it has occupied.

The polls were denounced as a sham by Ukraine’s government and its allies.

Mudenda recently visited Russia to reciprocate a visit by Moscow officials to Harare. Russian news outlet RIA Novosti reported him as saying:

Zimbabwe was and will remain on Russia’s side even after the referendums in Ukraine.

Zimbabwe was on Russia’s side even before the referendums in terms of understanding the root causes of the current situation.

Zimbabwe and Russia are both victims of sanctions and that makes us comrades in the sanctions battle.

To the extent that we are victims of sanctions, we share with Russia the same consequences of sanctions.

So it is not surprising that Zimbabwe is on Russia’s side.

Zimbabwe has not officially recognised the new regions joining Russia after the referendums but Mudenda said the process has already been initiated at Cabinet level. | NewZimbabwe.com
