SA Doctor Says People Calling For Her Resignation Don't Use Public Health
The controversial South African doctor, Phophi Ramathuba, who is Limpopo Health MEC, has slammed her critics, saying those calling for her resignation come from the middle class and do not use public hospitals.
Ramathuba has been criticised by some politicians and fellow health professionals following a viral video where she confronted a Zimbabwean woman for seeking medical treatment in South Africa.
The unnamed patient reportedly underwent surgery at Bela Bela Hospital after being injured in a car accident in Zimbabwe.
Ramathuba told the woman that Zimbabwean nationals are abusing the system and she should seek medical attention from Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government instead.
She said was speaking for 91 per cent of Limpopo residents who use public health care and would only resign if they tell her to.
