Larry Mavima Wins ZANU PF Midlands Chairperson Post Uncontested

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands, Larry Mavima, has “won” the ZANU PF Midlands provincial party chairmanship following his imposition by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa imposed Mavima in a bid to end factional fights in his home province, pitting camps aligned to the Minister of State in the President’s Office in Charge of Policy Implementation, Joram Gumbo and Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister, July Moyo.

Mavima is taking over from Daniel Mackenzie-Ncube who decided not to seek re-election.

Another contestant, State Security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube, withdrew from the race after he was told to do so by Mnangagwa. A NewZimbabwe.com source is reported as saying:

His victory was endorsed by the politburo on Tuesday and so that is a done deal.

Mavima is faced with the herculean task of unifying the province which is battling serious factionalism ahead of the 2023 elections.

This is the president’s home province, and it must lead by example in terms of unity and working coherently.

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa said that said winners and losers should accept the results of the forthcoming provincial elections which will be held next week.

He made the remarks while addressing a ZANU PF Politburo meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Harare this Tuesday.
