COVID-19: English Premier League Clubs To Fulfil Festive Fixtures
The English Premier League’s 20 clubs met on Monday and resolved to fulfil festive fixtures despite the ongoing disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The clubs held a meeting to discuss how they could deal with the COVID-19 situation after six fixtures were postponed over the weekend.
There was a possibility that the round of fixtures over Christmas could be postponed owing to COVID-19 numbers.
No vote took place and so two rounds of fixtures are in place across five days from 26 December, as in previous seasons.
Clubs are expected to fulfil their games if they have 13 fit players, plus a goalkeeper.
Last week, 42 Premier League players tested positive for coronavirus in a seven-day period, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
Updated figures for the most recent seven-day period are expected later on Monday.
Meanwhile, the seven Premier League teams still in the Carabao Cup face ties on 21 and 22 December.
They will also play three Premier League fixtures between then and 2 January.
