Rise In Hit And Run Incidents Worry Police
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over an alarming rise in hit and run cases across the country.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on 2 May this year, a 29-year-old man was hit by a Hino Sino truck at the intersection of Five Avenue and Sam Nujoma Street in Harare.
The victim sustained some head injuries and died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
In another hit and run incident that occurred on 3 May, a pedestrian aged 68 was knocked down by a Toyota Coaster along Bulawayo Road near the Kuwadzana roundabout. The victim died on the spot.
On the same day, a woman (34) also died on the spot after she was hit by a Nissan Caravan whilst trying to cross Mutare Road, near Mutangadura in Harare.
Asst Comm Nyathi urged motorists and pedestrians to always be observant on the roads.
