South African Billionaire Patrice Motsepe New CAF President
Billionaire Patrice Motsepe was yesterday voted the new CAF president News24 reports. Motsepe’s victory was announced yesterday in Rabat, Morroco after the election.
In his acceptance speech, Motsepe said African football will enjoy success when we all work together:
Africa needs collective wisdom, but also the exceptional talent and wisdom of every (national football association) president and every member nation. When we all work together, football in Africa will experience success and growth that it has not enjoyed in the past.
FeedbackLast week it emerged that FIFA boss Gianni Infantino had struck a deal with Augustin Senghor and Ahmed Yahya, paving the way for Motsepe to become the continent’s football governing body’s boss.
Motsepe announced his candidature and last month went on to present his case using a 10 point manifesto which included the following according to News24:
- Investing in each African country through sponsorships
- Developing and growing women’s football
- Establishing Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) on the continent.
