Residents' Trusts Demand The Publication Of Justice Uchena Report
The Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations of Residents Trust (ZNOART) has demanded that the Justice Uchena land commission audit results are published to expose land barons who corruptly benefited from illegal land deals.
The report submitted by the Land Commission, led by Justice Tendai Uchena, revealed that land barons, housing cooperative leaders, property developers and politically-connected people illegally sold $3 billion worth of urban State land since 2005.
In a statement, ZNOART national chairperson Shalvar Chikomba said the names of the land barons should be made public so that they face the full wrath of the law.
Chikomba also implored Council officials to conduct themselves with impeccable integrity, accountability and responsibility.
Following the demolition of houses built on illegally acquired land by the Harare City Council in Budiriro, ZNOART called for retributive justice to be done for people who have been left stranded and vulnerable to rain.
Chikomba, however, urged all urban home-seekers to take due diligence in following laid down procedures of buying a stand and the corresponding procedures for erecting structures.
