Wadyajena Quits ZANU PF Youth League Post
Zanu PF legislator for Gokwe-Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena has with effect “immediately” resigned from his Midlands provincial youth league position.
Wadyajena posted on Twitter suggesting he has decided to call it quits due to his age. He is thirty-five. Wadyajena tweeted this Tuesday saying:
Effective immediately, I resign from my position as Secretary for Administration, ZANU-PF Youth League, Midlands Province. I’ll certainly miss my Comrades there but there’s always a time to say goodbye and this is it!
FeedbackBeing over 35, I’m not a youth any longer!
The resignation can be viewed by some as a slap in the face for the 56-year-old Pupurai Togarepi who was until 2019 was the ruling party’s youth league secretary.
The age issue has been topical in recent years in Zimbabwe with some saying the country needs youthful leaders for it to transform at the expected rate.
Meanwhile, the ruling party where Wadyajena belongs has indicated that it may raise the minimum age restriction for presidential candidates, a move believed to be a strategy to elbow MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa out of the race.
Zimbabwe goes to the polls in 2023.
