CCZ Bemoans Mismatch Between Salaries And Prices Of Commodities
The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) has lamented over the mismatch between workers’ salaries and the ever-increasing prices of commodities.
CCZ said the government should ensure that a balance is struck between prices and workers’ salaries. CCZ regional manager for Bulawayo Comfort Muchekedza said:
Consumers have a right to basic needs and this right is very important and should not be taken for granted.
FeedbackIn our case, the government, being the custodian of all citizens, has to make sure that all the citizens have access to basic needs.
If citizens are buying goods, they have to be affordable and an equal match.
The remarks are made amid reports of industrial action by health caregivers in public health institutions nationwide over poor salaries.
Meanwhile, inflation is skyrocketing mainly due to the local currency’s loss of value against other currencies and the collapse of the local industry.
Recently, the government proposed a 50 percent salary increment and workers are rejecting the offer saying it is inconsequential considering the inflationary nature of the economy.
