Finance, NatPharm, PRAZ Officials Summoned Over Drax International PPEs Saga
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has summoned the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, George Guvamatanga, Natpharm boss and a senior official from the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ), for questioning over the Drax International scandal.
Drax International, a company reportedly linked to Collins Mnangagwa, the son of President Mnangagwa, was contracted to procure personal protective equipment (PPEs) for COVID-19 response.
Collins, however, denied association with the company and has threatened to take legal action against those who would contininue to associate him to it.
The company reportedly charged exorbitant prices and Guvamatanga authorised the purchase.
The latest development comes after the Ministry of Finance had told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget and Finance that other government departments and PRAZ are responsible for procurement.
PRAZ had also distanced itself from the deal saying it was now merely a regulator and was no longer involved in procurement.
