"Black Lives Also Matter In Africa, Mnangagwa Must Go," - Maimane
The former leader of the Democratic Alliance, an opposition party in South Africa has said black lives matter not only outside Africa.
He added that African leaders who were violating human rights in their own countries must just relinquish power.
Commenting on a tweet by his compatriot, Julius Malema who leads the Economic Freedom Fighters who had earlier applauded the anti-corruption campaign in Zimbabwe, Maimane said:
Apawataura zvinemusoro. Mnangagwa imbavha, atadza kutonga nyinka. Ngaende. If #blacklivesmatter then that must be true here in Africa as well. Mnangagwa must stop abusing the people. Paul Biya must stop abusing the people. Museveni must stop.
These remarks come when the democratic space is shrinking in Zimbabwe as there has been a spate of arrests, kidnapping and torture of members of opposition political parties, legal profession and human rights defenders in the country.
The victims of the brutality accuse state security agents of their ordeals.
Maimane and Malema also speak when the country’s economy has been on a downward spiral since 24 months ago and there is no hope for a better future as the outbreak of the coronavirus did less to help the situation.
