Four Perish In Gweru Accident
Four people died on the spot while five others were seriously injured after a Toyota Wish vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and rolled several times before landing on its wheels just outside Gweru on Wednesday afternoon.
ZBC News reports that the vehicle was heading to Bulawayo from Gweru when the accident which also killed the driver at the 322-kilometre peg near Treetops Shopping Centre occurred.
The accident was confirmed by national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said 11 people were boarding the vehicle when the accident occurred at around 1500hrs.
Nyathi also said his office is yet to get a full report of the accident.
An anonymous eyewitness told ZBC News that the driver lost control of the car which eventually rolled several times killing and injuring people on board.
He said the vehicle moved for about sixty metres in the bush after deviating from the road before it started rolling.
ZBC further reports that the injured were ferried to Gweru General Hospital for treatment.
Names of the deceased have been withheld until their next of kin have been advised of the tragedy.
