NPF Official Says Mnangagwa Is Deliberately Advancing 'Karanga Hegemony'
An opposition party has castigated President Emmerson Mnangagwa for what it considers his penchant for advancing “Karanga hegemony” the domination of political space by people of Karanga origin.
Spokesperson of the National Patriotic Front, Jealousy Mawarire claims that a significant number of top government officials appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa are from his Karanga tribe. He said:
It’s actually pathetic that key positions like Minister of Defence Oppah Muchinguri (Zimuto Masvingo), State Security (Mudha) Chief Secretary to the cabinet (Misheck Sibanda), Commander Defence Forces (Valerio Sibanda) Director-General CIO (Isaac Moyo) are all for Karangas.
FeedbackAirforce Commander (Elphas Moyo) Chairman Public Service Commission (Hungwe), Deputy Chief Secretary to the cabinet (Martin Rushwaya), Ministry of Justice Perm Sec (Virginia Mabhiza ) are all Karangas.
Ministers of State in 6/10 provinces are Karangas. These are Mary Mliswa (Mash West) Chidhawo (Harare), Ellen Gwaradzimba nee Munyoro (Manicaland), Chadzamira (Masvingo) Mavhima (Midlands), Judith Ncube (Bulawayo). This was done deliberately to advance Karanga hegemony.
Commenting on Mawarire’s tweet, prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono said the development is “pathetic”. Said Chin’ono:
Mnangagwa is something else. How does a President sink so low where he villagizes a whole country?
This is PATHETIC and must be condemned! Zimbabweans should talk about it and put an end to it! We can’t have such a man being a President!
This country belongs to all Zimbabweans.
Karanga is a dialect of the Shona language spoken in Zimbabwe, mostly in Masvingo Province, Midlands Province and parts of Manicaland Province.
