Mutodi Complains Of Sleep Deprivation After Hungry Villagers Stampede At His Home
Deputy Minister for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services and Goromonzi West MP Energy Mutodi was left fuming on Sunday after scores of villagers in Domboshava knocked on his door, seeking food handouts.
Domboshava is located a few kilometres from Harare and constitutes the largest part of his Goromonzi West.
Writing on microblogging site Twitter on Sunday, Mutodi complained that the villagers were disturbing his sleep after they stampeded at his home. Said Mutodi:
These families in Domboshava interrupted my sleep in the chilly Sunday morning as they jostled and shoved each other by the gate to the MP’s house, expecting anything they can take home to save starving children.
Help someone during this lockdown. Donate food. The little I got they took it all. I am appealing to well-wishers to help me feed these people.
Zimbabwe has been a net food importer since the controversial land redistribution exercise 20 years ago and this has left villagers across the country in need of food donations from time to time.
The country’s politicians also make donations during political campaigns before general elections and villagers usually turn to them when they go hungry.
