City Parking To Resume Collecting Parking Fees In Harare CBD
Harare City Council will deploy skeletal staff from its company, City Parking, to resume collecting parking fees and clamping vehicles at all designated bays following an increase in vehicular traffic despite the current lockdown.
In a statement on Wednesday, City Parking public relations manager Francis Mandaza confirmed the resumption of operations. The statement read:
Starting April 22, 2020, City Parking will deploy skeletal staff in the CBD. Our parkades accommodate essential service providers who require uninterrupted access.
FeedbackThe number of vehicles coming into the CBD has increased hence the need to complement efforts by City of Harare Traffic Enforcement and other law enforcement agencies to ensure adherence to the announced lockdown.
The entity is marking bays and road carriageway lines in the Central Business District to enable a smooth and trafficable road network post-COVID-19 period.
However, our work is being hindered by the large volume of traffic in the CBD despite the proclaimed lockdown.
We have therefore seen it fit to charge the normal parking fees for all vehicles parking in designated bays in the CBD.
The parking fees will as usual go towards the maintenance of the road network, marking of carriageway lines and parking bays…
