ZANU PF, MDC Alliance To Renew Fued In By-election
The ruling ZANU PF party and the opposition MDC Alliance will again contest another local authority by-election, this time in Shurugwi South, ward 6 on December 14.
ZANU PF is represented by Edward Chitera Junior while the MDC Alliance candidate is Mary Choga. In an interview with Southern Eye, Choga outlined what she will work on if elected. She said:
I am a dedicated lady who will push for equal opportunities in moving towards 50-50 representation at all levels of governance in Shurugwi once I am elected. My other wish is to ensure equitable distribution of government food aid.
FeedbackIf elected I will also be pushing for availability of clean and potable water in the ward through the sinking of boreholes by the rural district council.
ZANU PF seemingly has an upper hand in the by-election as the former councillor, Edmond Chitera, whose death necessitated the election, was ZANU PF.
Moreso, the ruling party controls Shurugwi South constituency through its MP Edmund Mukaratigwa.
