ZUPCO Kombi Fleet Now At 280 Vehicles
Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) acting chief executive, Evaristo Madangwa, said that as of now, the company has managed to acquire over 250 commuter omnibuses for its franchise.
Speaking to The Herald on Monday, Madangwa, however, said that the transport utility will not work with just any kombi but those that are licensed, roadworthy with certificates of fitness, and operator’s licence among other things. He said:
I am proud to say that already we have 280 kombis under the scheme.
FeedbackWe are still far from our 1 000 kombi target, but so far work is progressing well.
Zupco Kombis charge lower fares compared to those run by private operators. For instance, in urban areas, a Zupco Kombi charges people $2 for a trip whilst commuter operators charge at least $5 for the same trip.
