"Chamisa Should Be Allowed To Have His Own Army" - MDC
Supporters of the opposition MDC in Matebeleland have said that party leader, advocate Nelson Chamisa must be allowed to have his own army.
They said that the army would be used to retaliate at the government’s brutality on civilians.
Speaking during a feedback meeting held by party national spokesperson Daniel Molokele (MP for Hwange Central) and Godfrey Dube (MP for Hwange West) at Chinotimba Hall in Victoria Falls, an unnamed supporter said:
There is no constitutionalism in Zimbabwe and as such Chamisa should be allowed to have his own army. We are all trained one way or the other in security skills. We know how to hold a gun and fire it.
We suggest that Chamisa should recruit youths and train them so that they all have guns and if the army shoots at us we all shoot back.
Commenting on the contributions by party supporters, Molekele, said that he had noted everything but the party was non-violent. He added, however, that the matter could be discussed at the party congress.
These remarks come when the State has over the years been accused of deploying the police and soldiers to beat up civilians particularly those belonging to the MDC and human rights defenders as well as government critics.
