Egyptian President Orders FA Not To Hire Foreign Coach......While ZIFA Searches For One
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has reportedly ordered the country’s football Association not to consider a foreign coach for the national team, the Pharaohs anymore.
This follows Egypt’s unusually poor performance during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations that it hosted.
Egypt put up a lacklustre performance in the opening game against the Warriors, a match in which they won 1-0. It was eventually knocked out by South Africa in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Zimbabwe is looking for a foreigner to manage the Warriors. This is even though no foreign coach has ever taken Zimbabwe to the AFCON finals.
Only locals coaches, Sunday Chidzambga (twice), Charles Mhlauri (once) and Callisto Pasuwa (once) have qualified for AFCON.
Egypt has won AFCON a record 7 times. Local coaches have won it 5 times.
Egypt has won the tournament these years:
1959 – Mourad Fahmy (Egypt)
1962 – Pál Titkos (Hungary)
1986 – Mike Smith (Great Britain)
1998 – Mahmoud El-Gohary (Egypt)
2006 – Hassan Shehata (Egypt)
2008 – Hassan Shehata (Egypt)
2010 – Hassan Shehata (Egypt)
