Morton Jaffray Waterworks Undergoes Refurbishment
Morton Jaffray Waterworks Plant has been refurbished by a Chinese firm, China Machinery Engineering Company (CMEC).
The plant has been equipped with new equipment most of which is automated. Project executive director, Cao Yang said:
We have equipped Morton Jaffray with world-class equipment which will last for 20 to 30 years, and most of the machinery is automated.
FeedbackI have given the best staff to ensure the system works well.
We desire to see Harare receiving adequate water.
The city has immense potential to grow and we desire to ensure this happens.
Cao, however, bemoaned the excessive levels of water pollution at Lake Chivero which has, in turn, reduced the volume of treatable water.
He revealed that some parts of the Lake are now dead, as the water is polluted to such an extent that it is no longer treatable.
He urged the government to take a look at the situation at the Lake and find alternative sources of water for Harare residents.
