Mnangagwa Mourns Morgan Tsvangirai's Daughter, Vimbai
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed sorrow over the passing on of Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java (36), daughter to the late MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai on Monday.
Writing on his official Twitter handle, Mnangagwa said:
Very sad to learn of the tragic passing of Honourable Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java. May her memory be a blessing and a comfort to all that knew her, and may she rest in eternal peace.
FeedbackTsvangirai-Java was involved in a car crash in Kwekwe about a month ago and had been nursing the injuries she sustained ever since.
She had followed her legendary father’s footsteps by joining opposition politics and was the MP for Glen View South constituency.
At the time of her death, Tsvangirai-Java had been elected the secretary-general of the MDC’s Women’s Assembly in absentia during the elective congress held in late May.
Tsvangirai family spokesperson and uncle to the deceased, Mr Manasseh Tsvangirai spoke to Zimpapers Television Network on Monday. He said:
She was recovering steadily, as someone who was coming out of that wreck, you could see that it was actually tragic.
Then from there, it was actually early this morning and mukuwasha (Batsirai Java) said please pray for Mai Java because things were not normal and we were just praying not knowing that around 2 pm she was going to die . . . She died around that time and we were alerted to rush to the hospital with the husband, the sisters and other relatives of the Javas.
Currently, we don’t have anything yet, but people are gathered in Strathaven at No. 2 Lyndhurst Close.
Tsvangirai-Java was coming from Bulawayo with three party activists when the accident occurred.
Her campaign manager, Paul Rukanda and her maternal uncle, Tafadzwa Mhundwa died on the scene of the accident.
Sadly, Tsvangirai-Java’s mother, Susan Tsvangirai also perished in a car accident in 2009 soon after Morgan Tsvangirai became the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.
