ZANU PF Tells Finance Minister To Balance Between Theory And Practice

Zanu PF Youth League secretary, Pupurai Togarepi has urged the Finance minister Mthuli Ncube to be sensitive to the plight of the citizenry.

In a statement in which he also promised to deal with the business sector for increasing prices of commodities, Togarepi said:

While we embrace austerity for prosperity and have tightened our belts to adjust to the situation which requires us to do so, we would like the ministries of Finance and Industry to be sensitive to the plight of the masses and ensure that there is a balance between theory and practice.

The government has reported that austerity measures are yielding positive results as revenue collected from the 2% tax is high. As a result, the government plans to do away with austerity measures next year when it expects the economy to have stabilised by then.

Analysts have however claimed that the austerity measures are mostly affecting the have-nots as the cost of living has risen since they were introduced.
