Justice Uchena Commission On Land Begins Inquiry In Mash' Central
The Commission of Inquiry into the sale of state land in and around urban areas since 2005 commenced its inquiry in Mashonaland Province on Monday.
The Commissioners met with key stakeholders in Bindura. The stakeholders comprised the Minister of State, the Provincial Administrator, Provincial Lands Officer, Provincial Physical Planning Officer and Town Clerk.
They visited farms like Wood Brooke, Kingstone and Cleveland earmarked for residential development.
Chairperson of the Commission Justice Tendai Uchena said this is just the beginning of the inquiry in Mashonaland Central. He said
From experience this is just the beginning of the inquiry, documents shall be produced, evidence shall be heard, so in my view, it is too early to assess the situation.
Secretary to the Commission, who is also permanent secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Virginia Mabhiza said:
Those that have anything they wish the commission to know especially on how they acquired land if at all they were made to pay, was it a proper deal and whether they were allocated habitable land, so we want people to know as much as possible that we are here to assist people as much as we can in the province.
