Roman Catholic Cleric Says Mugabe Is 'Fine'

Roman Catholic cleric Father Fidelis Mukonori says former President Robert Mugabe is fine. The two last spoke several weeks ago after the death of Mugabe’s mother in law, according to Mukonori.

Mukonori is said to be a close friend and confidant to Mugabe and the cleric became a mediator between Mugabe and military commanders in November 2017 during the so-called military intervention. The negotiations paved the way for Mugabe’s resignation after the military putsch which was backed by the masses. Speaking to Newsday about his contacts with Mugabe, Mukonori said

I am sure he is at home. I haven’t met him for some time, but I have been in touch with him by phone and I talked to him a few weeks ago after the death of his mother-in-law and he sounded fine. Thereafter I think he travelled so I haven’t been in touch with him since then.
