Sports and Recreation Commission Boss Picked Up For Questioning By ZACC
Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) spokesperson Tiri Nheveyembwa confirmed to Business Times that the commission’s acting director general Joseph Muchechetere was picked up for questioning on alleged maladministration and malpractices by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Nheveyembwa told Business Times that ZACC has been questioning Muchechetere since last Friday. Said Nheveyembwa:
Yes I can confirm that Muchechetere has been summoned by ZAAC, but we don’t know the details yet about what they have been questioning him. He has been going there since Friday.
FeedbackSources close to the matter told Business Times that Muchechetere is being questioned about alleged financial irregularities that has left the commission with a debt close to $1,5 million. An audit produced by Nolands Harare Chartered Accountants, shows SRC’s debt ballooned from $500 000 two years ago. Board chairman Siwela and Muchechetere signed an acknowledgement of the audit report. The auditors noted that SRC had accumulated losses of $1,387, 415 with their total liabilities exceeding current assets by $1, 026 317.
