NSSA Management Awards Itself 300 Percent Annual Bonuses
Senior management at the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) is reported to have awarded itself annual bonuses in excess of 300 percent for 2017. Some of the management staff are taking home $90 000 in annual bonuses which are not performance related. Pensioners are currently receiving $80 per month. A letter by suspended NSSA General Manager, Elizabeth Chitiga responding to complaints about the bonuses reads:
I am writing to advise you that the Board, using its discretion has decided to reward all management and will be paying a bonus for 2017. This bonus award is a result of improved performance of the Authority during 2017 and the general uptick in service delivery. It is not a reflection of individual performance.
..The bonus award was submitted to and approved by the parent ministry. The board exercised its discretion in line with its mandate and as stipulated in the Employment Conditions of service.
