Concentrate On Writing Your Memoirs Instead of Divisive Tribal Politics: War Veterans Tell Mugabe
Former president Robert Mugabe has been told to leave the politics of tribalism and to focus on writing his memoirs instead by the war veterans. The former freedom fighters, some of whom served as Mugabe’s foot soldiers during election seasons, also reminded Mugabe that there were not his “personal soldiers.” Speaking in Masvingo, Deputy Minister of Defence (War veterans) and Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) secretary general, Victor Matemadanda said,
He wants to divide the country on tribal lines. He wants to create a Zezuru vote, a Ndebele vote, a Karanga vote. Wherever he goes he must know that he ruined this province and now he also wants to ruin Zimbabwe. We will not be divided on tribal lines
Mugabe should know that we were not his personal soldiers during the liberation struggle. We were fighting for the people of Zimbabwe. He thought he could control us as if we were his soldiers who he paid.
FeedbackMugabe seems to have courted the ire of his former comrades in Zanu-PF ever since he started speaking out against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, accusing him of having into power through a military coup backed by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
