2 120 workers retrenched in first half of 2017: ZCTU

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has revealed that 2 120 workers lost their jobs in the first six months of 2017 compared to only 1 825 during the same period last year, representing a 16% increase.
Addressing guests at the launch of the book Towards a Democratic Developmental States in Southern Africa, published by the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa and Labour and Economic Research Institute of Zimbabwe, ZCTU president Peter Mutasa told journalists that 4 610 companies had closed between 2011 and 2014, resulting in 55 443 workers losing their jobs.
