Zimbabwean man based in UK commits suicide after being threatened with deportation
Bhekitshe Moyo (42) who was originally from Gwanda, Zimbabwe, committed suicide in the United Kingdom after his application to continue staying in that country was rejected and he was threatened with deportation.
Moyo who was a boxer and known as “Tiger” to his friends left Zimbabwe in 2002 on a sports visa (boxing) which he renewed regularly as required and competed in more than 50 professional bouts. He used his spare time to study law and volunteer at boxing clubs, teaching children the sport. He was reported missing on Monday last week after suicide notes had been found at his friend’s place where he had been staying and his body was found in a park in South London.
A GoFundMe appeal has been launched for donations to repatriate Moyo’s body to Zimbabwe.
