Mtetwa writes letter to Chihuri complaining of abuse of arresting powers by police
Following the arrest of her client who had approached the police to lodge a complaint, prominent lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa has written to the Police Commissioner-General, Augustine Chihuri, complaining over the alleged abuse of police arresting powers.
She said officers at Borrowdale Police Station refused to record complaints from her client, Tim Trombas, who was allegedly being victimised by a well-known businessman, Simon Rudland. Mtetwa alleged Trombas approached the police station on three different occasions to report threats from Rudland, but the police locked him up over false charges instead.
Trombas appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court last Monday facing allegations of stealing from Rudland, a charge which Mtetwa argues is false. She says the police were allegedly being influenced by a Rudland, who was divorcing his wife, Leigh, who is now believed to be Trombas’ girlfriend.
