Two men from Epworth, Harare, appeared before the Epworth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday facing charges of violating the ZIMSEC Act. Specifically, they were accused of attempting to impersonate another person during an examination.
The court heard that on October 16, 2024, the two defendants, Paddington Chataika (36) and Joseph Murimba (33), conspired for Murimba to take the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Mathematics Paper 2 on behalf of Chataika, who was a registered candidate. As part of their plan, Chataika provided Murimba with a copy of his passport to facilitate the impersonation.
The scheme was uncovered when a whistleblower alerted ZIMSEC officials, who, along with police, went to the examination centre. They discovered Murimba in the examination room, having already completed the test.
Both defendants were convicted and sentenced to 12 months in prison, with 6 months suspended. The remaining 6 months were also suspended on the condition that they complete 210 hours of community service.

Two men from Epworth, Harare were caught trying to cheat on a ZIMSEC examination. They planned for one man to take the test for the other by impersonating him. The plan failed when officials caught the impersonator in the act. Both men were found guilty and sentenced to 6 months in prison, with the other 6 months suspended. They also have to do 210 hours of community service. Cheating is wrong and they got caught breaking the law.

Epworth Men Convicted And Sentenced For ZIMSEC Examination Impersonation

A man from Damafalls Phase 4, Ruwa, who was allegedly running an unregistered school in Eastview Phase 6, Caledonia, and misappropriated nearly US$7,000 paid by students for examination registration, has appeared in court.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that the accused person, Rutendo Zivanai, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for contravening the Education Act and fraud charges. Said the NPA:

Allegations are that, sometime in March 2024, the accused person received payments from 34 Ordinary Level students purporting that he would register them for examinations at a registered ZIMSEC centre but failed to make any arrangements and converted the money to his own use.
The accused person was running an unregistered school in Eastview Phase 6, Caledonia, Findale Academy.
On the 14th of October 2024, the students went to the purported examination centre as advised by the accused person to sit for the examinations and upon arrival were informed that they were not registered as candidates, hence were sent away.
A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person.

The complainants suffered a total prejudice of US$6 908 and nothing was recovered.
The students were later able to write some of their examinations after President Emmerson Mnangagwa paid the examination fee.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerai Moyo, confirmed this development during a visit to Findale Academy on 16 October. Said Moyo:

I want to thank His Excellency the President for coming to the rescue of all these learners because their fundamental right, education, had been violated through this theft by the owner of this school.
What is most important is the fact that the proliferation of unreasonable schools is a challenge to us as the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and we are going to take measures against all those schools that are operating illegally.

ZIMSEC Chief Executive Officer, Lazarus Nembaware confirmed the centres where learners were set to sit for their examinations. Said Nembaware:

We are now putting in place all the requirements so that the affected learners will start writing their exams starting tomorrow.
So starting tomorrow they must report to the centres which we have allocated them. They will write as Pirate candidates and their results will be made public.

A man from Ruwa allegedly stole US$7,000 in exam fees from students at his unregistered school. He was taken to court for fraud and breaking the law. The students were not registered for their exams, but the President helped pay for them to write their exams. The Minister of Education said they will take action against illegal schools. The students were able to write their exams at different centers. The CEO of ZIMSEC confirmed this and said the results will be public.

School Owner Who "Stole" US$7 000 Exam Fees Appears In Court

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has increased security measures to prevent leaks of public examination papers.
As the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) prepares to commence Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations this month, authorities aim to avoid the issues of paper leaks that have plagued previous exam sessions.
According to Ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro, new security protocols include delivering exam papers to schools with compromised security just minutes before the exams begin.
Cluster centres have been established at schools with robust security infrastructure to securely store examination papers, ensuring their safe distribution to nearby schools on exam day.
Moreover, real-time monitoring will be implemented, with ZIMSEC dispatching monitors to all examination centers to detect and prevent any potential leaks. Said Ndoro (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zimsec-upgrades-examinations-security/">The Herald</a>):
<blockquote>
We have enhanced security around examination processes and we are very confident that they will be written without any glitches, incidents or issues across the country. We can even say that the ZIMSEC exams are now more secure than those of Cambridge.
The Grade 7 examinations were conducted and completed successfully without any incident and we expect the same when it comes to the O and A level examinations.
Some of the measures that have been put in place are that ZIMSEC monitors have been deployed to all centres across the country to ensure adequate measures informed by the ZIMSEC standards are adhered to.
In terms of transport and storage of the examination material, firstly the papers are transported to provinces, districts and then cluster centres and from cluster centres they will be transported to the examination centre on the day of the exam.
When we say a cluster centre we mean a school with better security infrastructure within a certain area, that means a cluster centre in rural areas might cover up to 10 or more schools but in urban areas, a cluster will cover maybe two schools.
The morning paper will be transported in the morning and collected soon after, while the afternoon paper will be transported in the afternoon and collected the same day. The expenses will be catered for by the examination fees.

This year marked the final examinations for learners under the Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA).
Starting next year, students will be assessed based on a new heritage-based curriculum, which emphasizes five pathways: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), visual and performing arts, technical and vocational education and training, humanities, and commercials.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe is taking new steps to stop exam paper leaks. Security measures include delivering papers to schools just before exams start and setting up secure centers to store exam papers. ZIMSEC will also send monitors to all exam centers to prevent any leaks. The Grade 7 exams went well with these measures. From next year, students will be graded based on a new curriculum focusing on STEM, arts, vocational education, humanities, and commerce. This year's exams are the last for Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) students.

ZIMSEC Adopts New Measures To Prevent Exam Paper Leaks

ZIMSEC has published the timetable for the June 2024 O’ Level examinations. The examinations management body issued a notice advising candidates to verify their subject entries and personal information with their respective examination centres.
ZIMSEC said starting from April 22, 2024, candidates can obtain their statements of entry at their examination centres.

ZIMSEC June 2024 O' Level Timetable Is Out

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) hasn’t yet paid the owners of vehicles hired to transport 2023 examination papers, five months after they rendered their services, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200022832/zimsec-fails-to-pay-exam-transporters">NewsDay</a>.
The vehicles were hired through the government’s Central Mechanical and Equipment Department (CMED) at a rate of US$152 per day.
They ferried examination papers for Grade Seven, Ordinary and Advanced levels to various centres across Zimbabwe.
Vehicle owners who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity said that they rendered services for up to 30 days but were informed that CMED had not received the funds from ZIMSEC to pay them.
The money was to be paid in local currency at the prevailing interbank rate.
Contacted for comment by NewsDay, ZIMSEC spokesperson Nicholette Dlamini said CMED received the funds and “would continue to receive the funds”. She added:
<blockquote>
How or who they pay after we have remitted is not under ZIMSEC’s purview. CMED and Zimsec are parastatals which are engaged in ongoing business partnerships.
</blockquote>
However, CMED spokesperson Tarisai Muzorori said they have received part of the payment for the service rendered to ZIMSEC. She said:
<blockquote>
We have a solid working relationship with our support services and all our operations are done transparently.
Every business agreement we enter into with our stakeholders is bound by a contractual agreement that we honour to the satisfaction of the parties involved.
We have a good working relationship with ZIMSEC and any other State enterprise through our reputable and unmatched quality service provision.
CMED has received part payment for the service rendered to ZIMSEC. However, the money was disbursed to the support service providers according to the portion received.
We promise our support service providers to settle our obligation at the earliest possible time once we receive the final payment.
</blockquote>
ZIMSEC introduced a new exam delivery strategy to distribute materials to exam centres on the day the examination is to be written to prevent leaks.
However, some schools and colleges received the materials late, causing delays and anxiety for candidates, with examinations starting later than scheduled.

ZIMSEC Examinations Transporters Still To Be Paid

The Government has said candidates who failed to write Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) examinations due to rains will be allowed to sit for their affected papers, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/government-offers-zimsec-examination-candidates-disrupted-by-rains-reprieve/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
Heavy rains and thunderstorms in some rural areas caused flash floods that hindered accessibility of examination materials and consequently disrupted Ordinary and Advanced level examinations.
The matter was raised by Members of Parliament in the National Assembly.
Responding to parliamentarians, the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Angeline Gata said affected learners will be given the opportunity to write their examinations. She said:

In response to the question that has been asked, yes, the Ministry is aware that there are some schools that could not collect their examination papers because of the flooded rivers.
The affected schools will liaise with the head office so that the children are accorded time to write their exams.
We know that the river will not be flooded for maybe three days. So, arrangements will be made for the affected learners to have their exams during the exam period.

In an attempt to curb leakages of papers, ZIMSEC introduced a new system of delivering examination papers to centres on the day of writing.

Govt Offers Reprieve For ZIMSEC Examination Candidates Affected By Rain

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has demanded that teachers should be paid to invigilate the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) final examinations.
In a letter addressed to ZIMSEC, ARTUZ said teachers should be given contracts so that they get payments for doing extra work, that is, invigilating examinations. Wrote ARTUZ:

By signing contracts with teachers specifically for invigilation, ZIMSEC will establish a clear understanding of the expectations and responsibilities involved in this role.
This will help ensure that teachers are adequately compensated for their extra efforts and time dedicated to invigilating exams.
Moreover, having a formal agreement in place will provide a legal framework that protects both parties’ rights and obligations.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200017528/teachers-demand-invigilation-contracts">NewsDay</a>, ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure said ZIMSEC is “exploiting” teachers by failing to pay them for invigilating public examinations. He said:

Teachers are being exploited and ZIMSEC is not remunerating the teachers for their invigilation efforts.
We had held several meetings with ZIMSEC on this issue, but nothing has come out.
Now we are having a situation whereby teachers are no longer willing to invigilate as long as they are not sure whether they are going to be paid.

However, Primary and Secondary Education Ministry spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro, said invigilating ZIMSEC examinations was part of teachers’ official duties, therefore, they should not demand extra payment. Ndoro said:

It’s part of the teacher’s job description to invigilate from the Public Service Commission’s point of view. So briefly, it is part of their role to invigilate.

ZIMSEC does not pay teachers for invigilating its examinations but teachers who successfully apply as examination markers get paid for their work.

Teachers Demand Payment For Invigilating ZIMSEC Examinations

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) says measures are already in place to prevent exam leakages.
ZIMSEC board chairperson Professor Eddie Mwenje told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/report-schools-unilaterally-hiking-fees">The Sunday Mail</a> everything is now in place to ensure that the upcoming 2023 public examinations are written without any hiccups. He said:

All systems are set for Grade Seven, Form Four and Form Six examinations. We started the preparations early and did not face any problems.
The June exams were actually our test run for new measures we were implementing, and I am glad to say it was a huge success.
The board is always on the ground to make sure they implement measures that make the examinations successful, and we are really learning from our mistakes from last year’s exams.

Prof Mwenje said results for Grade Seven examinations will be released timeously this year to give parents time to prepare.
Meanwhile, according to the Grade 7 2023 Examinations Timetable released by ZIMSEC in July, the exams are scheduled to begin on Monday 25 September 2023, with English 01, followed by Mathematics 01 on 26 September. 
On Wednesday, 27 September, the candidates will sit for languages, that is Tshivenda 01, Shona 01, Sesotho 01, Kalanga 01, Xichangana 01, Tonga 01, Nambya 01, and Ndebele 01.
Social Science 01 will be written on 28 September, Agric, Science &amp; Tech 01 will be written on 29 September.
On Monday, 02 October, candidates will sit for Agric, Science &amp; Tech 02.
On 03 October, candidates will write Tshivenda 02, Shona 02, Sesotho 02, Kalanga 02, Xichangana 02, Tonga 02, Nambya 02, and Ndebele 02.
The Grade 7 candidates will sit for the Mathematics 02 paper on 04 October and for the Social Science 02 paper on 06 October.
On 09 October, candidates will write the Physical Edu &amp; Arts 01 examination.

"We Have Learnt From Past Mistakes", ZIMSEC Vows To Prevent Exam Leakages

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has rubbished claims by Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Edgar Moyo, that school authorities working in cahoots with police were responsible for the leakage of public examination papers.
In 2022, some candidates had access to Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) English Language and Mathematics examination papers several days before they were written.
Speaking during the question and answer session in the Senate on 29 March, Moyo said investigations by the Ministry of Education established that the exam leaks happen at schools. He said:

We also have the police officers who are there and when these papers are being removed from the strong room to the classroom for invigilation, it is not one person who takes those papers.
The whole system is water-tight in terms of security. We have integrity issues with some of our personnel at the school level and where the papers leaked, there was a kind of working together in cahoots by officials at the school.
When people agree and connive to do a crime, usually they will succeed because there is no one who is going to let the cat out of the bag.
</blockquote>
Responding to Moyo’s remarks, ARTUZ said marking schemes and soft copies of the examination papers were leaked on social media platforms, yet schools were never in possession of the documents. ARTUZ said in a statement:
Moyo lied to Senate that exams leak at the School level. We saw marking schemes in circulation. Do schools receive marking schemes?
We saw soft copies of exam papers. Do schools receive soft copies? Our policy brief on exam leakages is accurate.
Last year, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/school-heads-blame-zimsec-for-exam-leakages/">the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) pointed at ZIMSEC as the main source of the problem</a>, rather than schools.
According to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/police-suspect-zimsec-head-office-is-the-source-of-exam-leakages/">a leaked police memorandum, dated 19 October 2022</a>, police said they suspected the soft copies of the papers are leaked by someone at the ZIMSEC head office in Harare.
Last year, 5 156 Advanced and Ordinary level candidates’ results were nullified for having pre-access to examination papers.
The A-Level results were released on 13 January with ZIMSEC withholding results for 195 candidates while the ‘O’ Level ones, where results for 4 961 candidates were nullified.

Schools Not Responsible For Exam Leakages - ARTUZ

Teacher unions say the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary and Advanced Level examination fees are too high and some learners may fail to continue with their education.
ZIMSEC set the 2023 examination fees at US$24 per subject but candidates will pay US$11, while the government pays the balance.
Advanced Level examination fees are at US$48, with candidates paying US$22, while the government pays the balance.
In a statement, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) said civil servants will struggle to raise the examination fees for their children. Reads part of the statement:

ZIMSEC pegged its registration fees to an equivalent of US$24 dollars per subject. This gives an average Ordinary Level candidate the cost burden of US$120 for a minimum of five subjects.
This is occurring in a context where the average civil servant is earning close to US$150 per month, hence making the examination fee way above their means.
It also means that the average learner will require more than four months to raise adequate funds to register for examinations while the Friday, April 14 deadline leaves students with less than six days to pay.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou concurred.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200010004/teachers-lament-inhumane-exorbitant-zimsec-fees">NewsDay</a>, Zhou said ZIMSEC should extend the registration deadline to give parents and guardians more time to raise the required examination fees. He said:

The shift by ZIMSEC from US$22 to US$24 will heap burning coals upon the heads of thousands of Zimbabwean parents.
It is prudent for ZIMSEC to realise that many pupils will drop out of school due to exorbitant school fees.
Government must, therefore, make an urgent intervention to ensure that pupils can register for examinations.
Above all, the period of registration is too short, and an extension until schools open will provide parents with a breathing space to hunt for examination fees.

ZIMSEC Examination Fees "Unhumane" - Teachers

Educationist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caiphus_Nziramasanga">Dr Caiphus Nziramasanga,</a> says <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nziramasanga_Commision_of_Inquiry">the Nziramasanga Commision of Inquiry</a> recommended the removal of Grade 7, Form 2 and Form 4 (Ordinary Level) examinations.
Speaking during ZTN’s Current Affairs show, Nziramasanga said the commission of Inquiry which was commissioned by former President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" title="Robert Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a> in 1998 to inquire into the Education System of Zimbabwe, recommended that only partial Form 6 examinations should be taken.

ZIMSEC Statement On November 2022 Ordinary Level Results | Full Text

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has dismissed social media claims that the November 2022 Ordinary Level examinations will be cancelled due to massive leakages of some papers.
In a statement on Tuesday, 17 January, ZIMSEC said it is finalising the processes preceding the release of the results.
It also said those candidates who had access to exam papers before they were written were identified during the writing of the examinations and also at the marking of scripts stage and their examination results cancelled. Part of the statement reads:

ZIMSEC Says 2022 November O' Level Exams Will Not Be Cancelled

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has demanded the nullification of the November 2022 Ordinary and Advanced Level Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) examinations.
This comes after five hundred and eighty-eight (588) candidates were caught cheating while sitting for the examinations.
In a post on Twitter, ARTUZ alleged that some candidates were reproducing the ZIMSEC marking scheme word to word, with some schools recording uniform answers. <a href="https://twitter.com/ARTUZ_teachers/status/1605173541841911808">ARTUZ said</a>:

[The police] will have to nab more cheats. The cheating is beyond measure. We are learning that learners were reproducing the ZIMSEC marking scheme word to word.
Uniform answers whole school. We can’t conceal this. We should protect the integrity of our public exams. CID at UCE [United College of Education] in [Bulawayo] now.

In <a href="https://twitter.com/ARTUZ_teachers/status/1605181866344353792">another tweet</a>, ARTUZ said “We call upon [ZIMSEC] to nullify these examinations. The whole exercise is now turning out to be a joke.”
Last week on Thursday, the ZIMSEC deputy director Farai Zisengwe and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Director Barnabas Mangosho appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Education led by Torerai Moyo.
Responding to legislators on the issue of the widespread leakage of examination papers, Zisengwe said:

This is an issue that has not been concluded. We are doing the assessment and we are marking to identify these cheats.
About 588 candidates were caught along the way, but we believe there are more who will be caught during the marking period.
The board is going to be seized with the issue and we can confidently say Advanced Level results will be out in early January, but for Ordinary Level, we cannot say the same.

Rural Teachers Demand Nullification Of 2022 ZIMSEC O' And A' Level Examinations

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months in prison after he swindled Ordinary Level and Advanced Level candidates a total of $495 000 after selling them examination papers.
Kudzai Chireya claimed he was a Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) official and created a WhatsApp group that he used to defraud the learners.
He appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Alfred Chinembiri facing fraud charges on Wednesday.
Chireya pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
However, three months were suspended on the condition of good behaviour and the remaining nine months were suspended on condition that he performs 350 hours of community service at Birchenough Bridge Hospital.
The prosecutor, Thulani Zondwayo, told the court that in October this year, Chireya devised a plan to defraud unsuspecting prospective ZIMSEC candidates through WhatsApp. Said Zondwayo:

Through his WhatsApp group named MrPovo, Chireya said he was a ZIMSEC official and had access to both Advanced and Ordinary Level October 2022 to November 2022 examination question papers.
Chireya captured some screenshots of different examination papers using his cellphone. These included Mathematics Paper One and Two as well as English Paper Two.
In order to access the aforementioned full examination papers, one had to pay $5 000 on his supplied Ecocash number, 0785588968.
… The accused received a total of $495 000 from different complainants and he converted the money to his personal use.
The offence came to light when ZIMSEC officials witnessed the alarming leakages of its examination papers and reported the matter to the police.

Zondwayo said on 29 November, police from CID Commercial Crimes Division in Harare pounced on Chireya and arrested him. He added:
They searched and recovered his cellphone which contained several Ecocash transactions made by examination candidates. Nothing was recovered.

Bogus ZIMSEC Official Dupes Candidates $495 000

A 26-year-old Bulawayo man has been jailed for writing a Zimbabwe School Examination Council O’ Level Mathematics examination for another person.
Osmund Sibanda (26) from Cowdray Park in Bulawayo was hired by the candidate, Jeffrey Mumpande, to write the public exam for him and was only caught while writing the final paper.
The two men appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Godswill Mavenge on Tuesday and were convicted of impersonation charges.
Sibanda and Mumpande both pleaded guilty to the offence and will serve eight months in jail each.
Prosecutors told the court that on 20 October at around 9 AM, Mumpande gave his national identity card and a statement of entry to Sibanda so that he could sit for Maths Paper Two on his behalf.
The matter came to light when the invigilator Simelokuhle Zvavanjanja was doing the verification process on all candidates and discovered that Sibanda was using Mumpande’s identity card. Court records read in part:
Investigations were carried out and it was discovered that the accused connived with Jeffery Mumpande to sit for his Mathematics examination using his candidate number 3088 and centre number 04377.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the duo’s arrest.
Investigations established that the duo had used the same tactic to write the first paper on 19 October and were not caught.

Tailor Hired To Write O' Level Maths Paper Jailed Eight Months

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched criminal investigations into the leakage of several Zimbabwe Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) examination question papers.
To date, Ordinary level English Paper 2 and  Mathematics Paper 2  leaked into the public domain, with some of the suspects already having been arrested.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said so far eleven cases of exam leakages have been reported throughout the country. He said:

Due to the numerous media inquiries on the response of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the Police confirm that it is conducting criminal investigations in connection with the leakage and circulation of the 2022 ‘O’ Level ZIMSEC examination papers throughout the country.

The general public and the media are requested to direct all administrative issues concerning the examination leakage to ZIMSEC while the Police handle the criminal investigations.

Police Probe ZIMSEC Exam Leakages

School heads have blamed the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) for recurring exam leakages that have undermined the integrity of the country’s public examinations.
ZIMSEC itself has confirmed the leakage of the 2022 November Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper One but reports suggest that more papers could have been leaked.
School heads pointed at ZIMSEC as the main source of the problem, rather than schools.
National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) chair Arthur Maphosa told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zimsec-under-fire-over-leaks/">The Herald</a> the leakage of examinations is unfair on candidates, teachers and parents who would have worked hard preparing for the examinations only for them to be nullified. Said Maphosa:

It is sad that after all the time we take preparing learners and you just hear of these leakages.
You just feel sorry for the learners, teachers and parents. It is bad and it needs to end.
Nonetheless, the problem is not at schools. I think it is emanating from ZIMSEC and they need to tighten their security to avoid the leakages.
Also, some private schools might be partly to blame. The way some run the examination processes is suspicious like the things we hear that some teachers prepare for examinations with learners up to the last night of the exam in what they call an examination gala.

National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) chair Cynthia Khumalo said primary schools were not affected by the leaks, but added that ZIMSEC should ensure that the integrity of exams is protected. She said:

From our end, we did not encounter any challenges, but that it is happening is a huge cause for concern.
We need to protect the credibility of our education system. ZIMSEC needs to tighten its security system for the integrity of our examinations.
For public schools, I do not think there is any challenge in administering exams. The challenge is with some private schools and there is a need to further scrutinise private schools before they are allowed to stage examinations.
We are gathering information and ZIMSEC will issue a statement. We want this issue to be dealt with expeditiously. Now it is a criminal case and we expect the law to take its course.
As Government schools, we do not condone such behaviour. The integrity of our exams is sacrosanct and needs to be protected.
We also urge parents, teachers, learners and all stakeholders to reject, resist and report corrupt elements near our education system.

School Heads Blame ZIMSEC For Exam Leakages

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has vowed to investigate the source of examination leakages of Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) papers over the years.
Police suspect the soft copies of the papers are leaked by someone at the ZIMSEC head office in Harare.
Almost every year, the Maths and English papers are leaked, and ZIMSEC has lost integrity as a result.
ZIMSEC recently issued a statement confirming the leakage of the Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper 1 that was written on 18 October 2022.
The examinations management body added that some candidates who had pre-access to the question paper had been identified.
In a leaked police memorandum, dated 19 October 2022, a candidate at Bikita Fashu High School was seen with an English Paper 2 question paper with answers that he was copying during the English paper two examination which was running between 0900hrs and 1100hrs on the 19th of October 2022.
The school head reported the matter to the police and further investigations established that the candidate had also received a soft copy of a suspected Mathematics Paper. The memo reads in part:

It appears this year’s ZIMSEC examinations are seriously leaked and it appears the source is in Harare and chances are high that the leakages are from ZIMSEC offices in Harare. Action should be taken on ZIMSEC head offices where the soft copies originate.
Pamushana High School has a long history of leaking examinations and the source, Chimbodzikai village Chief Marozva Bikita is near Pamushana High School.

Police Suspect ZIMSEC Head Office Is The Source Of Exam Leakages

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) says purported November 2022 examination papers being advertised for sale on social media platforms are fake.
This comes after three Harare men, going by what seem to be fake names, claim to have November examination papers for six subjects for sale.
The trio claims to have ZIMSEC Mathematics, Combined Science, English Language, Shona Language, Geography and History papers.
They are calling themselves Dr TN Machache (0775 197 627), Mr PG Chigumbu (0736 312 609) and Mr N Mwenje (0789 962 343) and gave contact numbers on which they could be reached. Their social media advert read:

When contacted by <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/fake-november-2022-zimsec-exam-papers-vendors-unearthed/">The Sunday News</a>, “Dr Machache” using mobile number 0775 197 627, said they are no longer offering Mathematics and Combined Science examination papers, saying they “reached the maximum number of people [on Wednesday].”
He said that each examination paper was going for US$80.
However, ZIMSEC public relations manager Nicky Dlamini said the papers are fake. She said:

Good day, ZIMSEC is aware of the image with purported 2022 exam papers on sale. The Security department of the Council has verified that these are fake papers being sold in an attempt to defraud those who purchase them.
</blockquote>
She added that full investigations are in progress and further comments will be available after the conclusion of the investigations.
