The South African Police Services (SAPS) has denied making any arrests in connection with the murder of two bread truck delivery men in Delft, Cape Town last week.
This follows social media claims that the murderer, alleged to be a Zimbabwean national, had been arrested.
As reported by <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/capeargus/news/no-arrests-made-for-bread-truck-murders-despite-rumours-circulating-on-facebook-and-whatsapp-5628ec44-a3dd-4773-9411-d298d259b60a">IOL</a>, the shooting was captured by the truck’s dashboard camera. It showed three men coming under attack last Thursday while they were sitting inside a Sasko bread truck on the corner of Symphony Way and Temprol Street.
The Sasko bread workers were doing deliveries around 8 AM when they were ambushed.
In a widely circulated two-minute video, the men can be seen laughing together moments before they are robbed by armed suspects. Tragically, two of them are then fatally shot in a hail of bullets.
On Thursday, a report along with a picture surfaced on Facebook and WhatsApp, alleging that a man named Martin Magunyi had been arrested by police while on a bus headed for Beaufort West.
The report goes on to say that Magunyi is believed to be wanted for several robberies across the province, including the murder of Sasko workers.
However, police spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie, dismissed the report, saying that a suspect was indeed arrested in Beaufort West on Wednesday, but was not linked to the double murder in Delft. Said Pojie:

Be advised that a 28-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested in Beaufort West on May 22, 2024, as an undocumented person.
He will appear in the Beaufort West Magistrate’s Court soon. However, he is not a suspect in the Delft double murder of a week ago.

Zimbabwean Man Arrested In Beaufort West Not One Of "Sasko Murderers" - SA Police

A Zimbabwean man who pretended to be a “Good Samaritan” and raped three children aged 8, 9, and 11 in Limpopo Province, South Africa, has been sentenced to three life terms.
According to <a href="https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/2024-04-23-three-life-terms-for-zimbabwean-man-who-raped-three-girls-in-limpopo/">TimesLive</a>, Tinos Chimeze (33) pleaded not guilty at the Modimolle magistrate’s court of the rapes committed in 2022.
He claimed the victims came to his house to view his woodwork and that he even offered them food.
However, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi on Tuesday said that Chimeze lured the children to his place and offered them soft drinks and food. Said Malabi-Dzhangi:

The evidence revealed that the accused had been luring the victims to his place in 2022, offering them soft drinks and food. He then proceeded to rape the victims in his house in the presence of the other victims.
</blockquote>
The rapes came to light when a social worker who interviewed the victims alerted the police. Said Malabi-Dzhangi:

The accused had taken the three victims to a social worker alleging that he was taking care of them and that they needed food. Medical evidence confirmed that the victims were indeed sexually abused.
</blockquote>
Some South Africans often blame foreigners for the high crime rate in that country and this often results in xenophobic attacks.
However, <a href="https://theconversation.com/5-xenophobic-myths-about-immigrants-in-south-africa-debunked-by-researchers-191194">reports</a> suggest that statistically, there is no relationship between international migration in South Africa and crime.
Evidence shows that most foreign-born nationals do not commit crimes, nor are they responsible for most crimes in South Africa.

Zimbabwean Man Who Raped 3 Children In South Africa Gets 3 Life Terms

A South African-based woman from Mutare allegedly scalded her husband with cooking oil over money meant for her lobola and fled.
Moreblessing Nyakunu (40) and her husband Moses Mtukwa (41) reportedly clashed over the money. Mtukwa succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack at a Cape Town hospital last Thursday.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/woman-kills-hubby-vanishes-with-lobola-money/">The Manica Post</a>, Mtukwa’s older brother, Davison Mtukwa, said that he was hospitalised for two weeks and was on life-support before passing on.
Davison said Moreblessing poured hot cooking oil on his brother before stealing 31 000 Rand and US$800 that her husband was saving to pay her bride price. After the attack, she fled from their home. Said Davison:

My brother died due to the serious injuries he sustained after being scalded with cooking oil. What hurts most is that Nyakunu did not inform us that our brother was in hospital.
Instead, each time we called him or her, she would answer the calls and pretend as if everything was fine.
Each time my sister who is also in South Africa called looking for Moses, Nyakunu would tell her that he (Moses) was at home, while she was at work.
</blockquote>
He said they only got to know that their brother was in the hospital five days after his admission when a well-wisher who had ferried him to the hospital phoned their sister. He said:
<blockquote>
When my sister got there, she was immediately told by the hospital authorities that Moses was supposed to be put on a life-support system, and we had to run around looking for money for him to receive medical attention.
At that time, Moses was still talking, and he told our sister that he had 31,000 Rand and US$800 at home. He said the money was meant to pay for Nyakunu’s bride price.
He once told me about his savings, and we were planning to visit the Nyakunu family to settle some of the lobola arrears.
</blockquote>
Davison added that when their sister went to Moses’ home, it was deserted and the money was nowhere to be found.
<h2>Separation and then Reunion</h2>
Davison said his brother Moses, and Morebelssing separated when they were still in Zimbabwe, and they were surprised to hear that they were cohabitating in South Africa. He said:
<blockquote>
My brother and Nyakunu had a child together while they were still staying in Bvirindi Village under Chief Zimunya back then.
They, however, parted ways and we were surprised to hear that he was cohabiting with her when he migrated to South Africa. They both came back home and he paid part of the bride price for her.
Up until now, we never heard of any altercation between them. They appeared the most perfect couple to us. We were shocked to hear of this tragedy.
My brother told our sister before he was put on life support that Nyakunu had scalded him because she wanted to use the lobola money for something else.
After scalding him, neighbours rushed him to the hospital. She disappeared with the money. Up to now, South African police are looking for her because she committed a heinous crime.
</blockquote>
The family says it has in its possession WhatsApp messages and audio sent between the couple hours before the fight.
In the chats, Nyakunu said that she wanted to use the money for something else, and Moses had to give it to her and look for the lobola money later.
<h2>A Moody and Violent Person</h2>
Moreblessing’s mother, Mbuya Loveness Nyakunu, told The Manica Post that her daughter is a moody and violent person. She said:
<blockquote>
I do not want to lie, Moreblessing is a violent person and always clashed with her sisters, but we never thought that things would come to this.
We never thought she would murder her husband and I was shocked when I heard of this sad development. I passed out and had to be rushed to the clinic where I was resuscitated.
When my daughter last called me, she said she had an altercation with her husband and he was admitted to hospital.
Since then, her phones have been off and we cannot reach her. What she has done has left us in a big mess.
I do not know how we will be able to raise the money that the Mtukwa family wants for the body to be repatriated to Zimbabwe.
</blockquote>
<h2>Urgent Appeal For Help</h2>
The Mutukwa family is now appealing to well-wishers to help them raise 27 000 Rand required for the repatriation of the deceased’s body for burial. Said Davison:
<blockquote>
27 000 Rand is what is needed in total, and as a family, we have managed to raise 10 000 Rand. Had she not stolen the money, we would have been able to bring back home our loved one and lay him to his final resting place.
We are unable to do that at the moment. We are appealing to Zimbabwe, family and friends to help us so that our brother’s remains are brought home.
</blockquote>

Zimbabwean Woman Kills Hubby In South Africa, Vanishes With Lobola Money

Zimbabwean businessman, Evans Katumba, who was abducted in Durban, South Africa, on March 22 has been found dead.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/missing-zimbabwe-tycoon-evans-katumba-is-found-dead-in-durban/">ZimLive</a>, South African police believe Katumba, who was in his mid-30s, was killed on March 24 soon after his family paid R1.5 million ransom in a bid to secure his release.
His body was found last week in a field in Hammarsdale, a township 50 kilometres west of Durban.
A relative who asked not to be named told ZimLive on Tuesday that the police confirmed that the body was that of Katumba after DNA tests were conducted on the remains. Said the relative:

It’s him, police have confirmed to the family. They think he was shot on the same day we handed over the ransom money.
</blockquote>
The family suspects Katumba knew his captors, and that could have been the reason why he was killed even after they paid R1.5 million of the R2.5 million ransom the kidnappers initially demanded.
Katumba is said to have arrived in South Africa over 16 years ago and initially worked as a truck driver for various companies in Durban.
He also worked as a petrol attendant before he set up his own fuel trading company in 2018.
Katumba was described by friends as “a nice guy” and “very humble” and was nicknamed Vardy for his goal-scoring prowess in social football much like the Leicester City Football Club striker, Jamie Vardy.
He ran a thriving diesel brokerage business and had recently purchased Yugo, one of Durban’s top nightclubs.
Katumba is said to have bought luxury vehicles including a R3.5 million Mercedes G63, a Ferrari and a sprawling mansion in Durban’s Yellowwood Park neighbourhood.
His friends believe that his decision to take over Yugo nightclub in February brought him unwelcome attention. The nightclub, now renamed Sky Premium Club, had only opened for one week when he was abducted.
It is alleged that Katumba was preparing to go to the nightclub on March 22 when he received a call at around 8 PM.
The family believes that the caller, who wanted a meeting, is someone whom Katumba knew.
He left home driving his brand new VW Amarok and picked up an artist who was due to perform at the nightclub that night before heading out to meet the mystery caller. Said a friend:

When they got to the place where this meeting was supposed to take place they were met by people armed with AK47s. They took him and the Amarok which was yet to be installed with a tracker.
</blockquote>
The artist who was travelling with Katumba was left at the scene.
His abductors made contact with his family two days later on March 24. They warned the family not to cooperate with the police and then demanded R2.5 million in cash. They promised to release Katumba within an hour after the ransom payment.
Katumba’s friends and his family raised R1.5 million which was dropped at an open field on the outskirts of Ballito, as instructed by the kidnappers.
However, after the cash drop, the family never heard from the kidnappers again.
South African police informed the family they believe Katumba was shot dead on the same day the money was paid.

Missing Zimbabwean Businessman Evans Katumba Found Dead In Durban, SA

The 81-year-old man from Tsholotsho who spent the past 61 years in South Africa before returning home will be taken to an old people’s home after his relatives showed a lack of interest in accepting him, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/gone-for-61-years-moyo-to-be-taken-to-old-peoples-home/">Chronicle</a>.
Philip Moyo, who is now physically unwell and suffering from malnutrition, left his home in Nemane Tsholotsho for South Africa before Ian Smith’s far-right political party, the Rhodesian Front, unilaterally declared independence.
He is yet to find relatives willing to take him in when he is discharged from Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.
Moyo has spent the past five weeks at the hospital and is now awaiting discharge.
A woman who is aged 60 years and claims to be his daughter, recently visited the hospital and later disappeared.
The woman has not been seen after reuniting with her father whom she never saw or communicated with since she was born.
Moyo said he had a family in South Africa including four children who did not want to be part of his life anymore.
The octagenarian said he left Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), without a passport as they were not required then and started a family with his wife who is from Botswana.
He also had a child in Rhodesia but he cannot remember the name of his girlfriend or the child.
Mpilo public relations officer Matron Norma Mabhena said the hospital will ensure that Moyo goes to an old people’s home since his relatives have failed to accept him. She said:
<blockquote>
We are working with social workers to take him to an old people’s home and so far we have several promises.
His relatives haven’t come and his daughter came once and then cut off all communication with us.
The civic leaders have also tried to get the family members to communicate with Moyo without any luck and we are now working on taking him to a home.
</blockquote>
During his initial interview with State media, Moyo said that he only remembers that his father was Sibambosobunyonyo and his mother was MaDawu and that his home was near Nemane Primary School in Tsholotsho in an area called Mandeya.
Civic leaders including Chief Gampu visited him in the hospital.
Millions of Zimbabweans have migrated to South Africa over the past several decades, with some settling there permanently.
Moyo’s predicament highlights the need for emigrants to keep in touch with their relatives back home so that they will have a place to go in case they are forced to leave their adopted country.

Tsholotsho Man Who Spent 61 Years In SA To Be Taken To Old People’s Home

A 38-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested in South Africa on Sunday evening during an intelligence-driven operation where a stolen Toyota RAV4 vehicle was recovered from him in Limpopo Province.
<a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/zimbabwean-man-arrested-after-toyota-rav4-stolen-in-gauteng-recovered-in-limpopo-e413a535-949d-4840-ba6e-db1d06541cc2">IOL </a>reported Mpumalanga provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, as saying the vehicle was reported stolen at Boschkop, in the Gauteng Province. He said:

A report indicates that the information regarding a suspicious vehicle was provided by the national crime intelligence structure of the SA Police Service, and the team to carry out the operation consisted of members from the Middelburg flying squad, Sekhukhune flying squad, Tracker Connect, Modimolle flying squad, and Roedtan SAPS.
</blockquote>
The teams followed up on the details of the suspicious vehicle, leading the team to N11 Road in the Roedtan area in Limpopo, where a green Toyota RAV4 with one occupant was intercepted. Said Mohlala:

It is said that the said car was coming from R25 Road in Bronkhorstspruit, and it was fitted with Gauteng registration number plates.
</blockquote>
On further investigation, it was discovered that the registration plates fitted to the Toyota RAV4 were cloned. Added Mohlala:

The members also unearthed that the vehicle was reported stolen at Boschkop, in the Gauteng province, this month hence the driver was arrested and charged for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

According to a report by the South African Police Service (SAPS), intelligence information indicates that daily between three (3) and (6) vehicles cross the Limpopo River and are smuggled into Zimbabwe
The syndicate make use of smugglers along the river. The smugglers do not belong to the syndicate but however, drive the vehicles across the river and once the vehicles have crossed the other person will receive the vehicle in Zimbabwe for further processing
The smugglers, who stay around the villages along the Limpopo River, allegedly charge between R5000.00 and R15 000 per vehicle to assist in smuggling.
The stolen vehicles are sold in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi.

Zimbabwean Man Arrested In SA For Driving Stolen Toyota RAV4  Vehicle

Police in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, have arrested a 45-year-old Zimbabwean man, Obert Moyo, in connection with the murder of Perseverance Ncube, a 35-year-old Zimbabwean woman described as a “real angel” by friends.
Ncube, known to her friends as Percy, was stabbed to death in front of her two children in Salford, England, in the early hours of Friday morning.
She was found with a single wound to the chest and was rushed to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.
In <a href="https://www.gmp.police.uk/news/greater-manchester/news/news/2023/november/a-45-year-old-man-has-been-charged-with-the-murder-of-perseverance-ncube/">a statement on Sunda</a>y, 12 November, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said Moyo had been charged with her murder and possession of an offensive weapon. The statement read in part:

A 45-year-old man has been formally charged with the murder of Perseverance Ncube, who was tragically killed in front of her two children in Salford.
At around 2.40 AM on Friday 10 November 2023, officers were called to reports of a woman who had been found with serious injuries on Dukesgate Grove in Little Hulton, Worsley.
Perseverance was found with a single stab injury to the chest, she was taken to hospital where she sadly died as a result of her injuries.
Obert Moyo (28/02/1978) of Pennington Road, Bolton has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
He has been remanded ahead of a court appearance at Bolton Magistrates Court on Monday 13 November 2023.

GMP appealed to any motorists and residents in the area who may have information that can assist in resolving the case to contact the police. GMP said:

According <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/zimbabwean-man-arrested-in-uk-after-woman-stabbed-to-death-in-front-of-kids/">to a report</a>, Moyo was released from prison three years ago after serving half of a 10-year sentence for attacking his ex-girlfriend on 26 August 2013.
His relationship with his 25-year-old ex had ended a month earlier.
Moyo went to a care home where she worked in New Church Road, Brighton and Hove, at 1 AM.
He broke in, carrying two knives and a screwdriver and found her working alone.
While the elderly residents slept, he ripped out her hair extensions and then dragged her to the back of the building.
Moyo inflicted cuts on the woman’s face, but she managed to run away and was found on New Church Road.

Zimbabwean Man Arrested In UK Over The Murder Of Perseverance Ncube, A Zimbabwean Woman

A 34-year-old Zimbabwean national, Loaded Maguta, who was arrested in South Africa last month for possession of a stolen vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, will appear at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court again this week where his bail application will be considered.
South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, told <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/more-nights-in-jail-for-man-arrested-trying-to-smuggle-stolen-toyota-fortuner-to-zimbabwe-3757ab58-50cd-462f-87cd-ead5e242ea37">IOL</a> that Maguta appeared in court last week, and he was remanded in custody until Thursday, 09 November. He said:
<blockquote>
The suspect, Loaded Maguta appeared on November 2, for formal bail, he is remanded in police custody until November 9, for further police investigations.
</blockquote>
The Toyota Fortuner sport utility vehicle, which was recovered during Maguta’s arrest, was reported stolen in Gauteng.
Maguta was arrested near the Beitbridge border post. He has been linked to a vehicle smuggling syndicate operating between Gauteng and Limpopo provinces.
The Zimbabwean national was nabbed after a high-speed chase with SAPS from the Kuschke Agriculture School until the Toyota Fortuner came to a stop along the R101 Road.
Maguta was reportedly driving without a valid driving licence, and it was also established that he was in South Africa illegally.
He is now facing charges including breaching immigration laws, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence.

Zimbabwean Man (34) Arrested In South Africa Trying To Smuggle Stolen Toyota Fortuner Remanded In Custody

A 36-year-old Zimbabwean man was allegedly stabbed to death with a sharp object in the street in South Africa on Monday.
The murder occurred on a street at Lepakeng, in Seshego, outside Polokwane.
<a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/zimbabwean-man-brutally-murdered-in-limpopo-stabbed-and-left-bleeding-on-the-street-427ce56b-599b-43d0-ac2a-745e94a989e5">IOL</a> quoted Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, as saying:

It is alleged that one of the residents was walking along the street at Lepakeng next to a tavern when she heard someone screaming for assistance and went closer to investigate.
The woman found one male lying on the street bleeding, with a stab wound on the upper body and she immediately summoned the police and members of the emergency medical services (EMS).
</blockquote>
Ledwaba said the police and the EMS “quickly responded” but upon their arrival, the stabbing victim was certified dead at the scene. Said Ledwaba:

Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased was renting a room in the area at the time of his untimely death.
Police have subsequently started a manhunt of the unknown suspects, and the location of the friends and relatives of the deceased.
</blockquote>

Zimbabwean Man (36) Brutally Murdered In Limpopo, South Africa

A 33-year-old Zimbabwean man was among four men arrested in South Africa by the Hawks while allegedly selling two pangolins at Mahikeng Mall.
Deon Clamans Mubhada, two South African nationals Kabelo McDonald Batsi (36), and Tebogo Kodwa (28), as well as Botswana national Lesego Siana (45) appeared before the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in North West.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in North West, Henry Mamothame said the matter was adjourned till 06 June for verification of the statuses of the accused people in preparation for the bail application. <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/multinational-syndicate-two-south-africans-a-zimbabwean-and-a-botswana-national-arrested-while-allegedly-selling-pangolins-53158645-137e-407d-94e2-dd9c40ef1bde">IOL</a> quoted Mamothame as saying:

They are facing two charges of contravention of the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act of 10 of 2004 after they were found in possession of two pangolins…
The Hawks report revealed that information that was followed up, led to the arrest of the four at Mahikeng Mall where they were found in possession of the endangered species, allegedly trying to sell them.
They will remain in police custody until the next court appearance set for a bail application. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to establish more facts on the matter.
Owing to the serious nature of such offences in the province, a senior State advocate, advocate Benny Kalakgosi, has been allocated the case to ensure that the four are brought to book successfully.

Zimbabwean Man Arrested While Selling Pangolins In South Africa

A Zimbabwean national who was found transporting explosives at the Beitbridge border was on Wednesday sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Musina Regional Court in South Africa.
Prosper Takunda Henry Mumbure (34) pleaded guilty to the charges he was facing.
Mumbure told the court that on 17 November 2022, he was driving a truck at the Beitbridge port of entry from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
When the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and police officials inspected the truck, they realised that it had explosives.
They searched the truck and found 17x reels of detonating fuse, 1250x units of connector-capped fuses, and 2569x units of blasting cartridges marked solar explosives hidden inside.
NPA regional spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi was quoted by <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/zimbabwean-handed-15-years-in-jail-for-transporting-unauthorised-explosives-1d0bebfd-be2e-4241-a740-b8e76c7ff0f8">IOL</a> as saying:

The accused failed to appear before the court on his next court date after being released on bail and that resulted in the warrant of arrest being authorised against him.
</blockquote>
Malabi-Dzhangi said that after the warrant of arrest was issued, the accused was then found and arrested again on 04 April 2023, by the Hawks.
In aggravation of sentence, the state prosecutor, Jan Krijt, submitted that the offence carried a minimum sentence of 15 years. Added Malabi-Dzhangi:

He then said that crime, wherein explosives are carried, is a prevalent crime in this court’s jurisdiction.
He further told the court that these types of offences are destroying our country through illegal mining, cash in transit, and ATM bombings.
He concluded by saying that the offence has serious consequences for the safety of our people and the stability of our economy.

Malabi-Dzhangi further said that the NPA hopes that the sentence would deter would-be offenders of similar crimes.

Zimbabwean Man Jailed 15 Years In SA For Transporting Unauthorised Explosives

A 37-year-old Zimbabwean street vendor was shot dead while trying to sell fruit in a Gauteng business complex on 09 April 2023.
<a href="https://groundup.org.za/article/gauteng-community-demands-answers-after-fruit-vendor-shot-dead-allegedly-by-private-security/">GroundUp</a> reported that Lloyd Bhebhe was allegedly shot by two private security guards in Alberton North.
Last week, activists from the African Diaspora Workers Network, Zimbabwe Solidarity Network, family members and friends of Bhebhe held a picket at the site where the street vendor was shot, demanding justice for his killing.
Bhebhe was shot by two Community Protection Service (CPS) security officers in a salon.
He was apparently seeking shelter in the salon after being chased away from another store.
Reports claim Bhebhe had an argument with one of the security guards about selling fruit at the business complex.
Mohlawuphele Zondi, a regular client at the salon, told GroundUp that several shots were fired at Bhebhe.
Another resident, Julia Pengapenga, said Bhebhe often “quarreled with security officers or business owners who did not understand that he was mentally ill. He meant no harm”.
In a statement last week, African Diaspora Workers Network, chairperson Janet Munakamwe, said:

Lloyd was mentally challenged and eked out a living by selling fruits on the streets.
Unfortunately, the perpetrators of this heinous crime simply walked away as if they had slaughtered a ‘wild animal’.

His mother, Patricia Sibanga, said that he was suffering from a mental illness. She said:

My son has been battling a mental illness for the past three years. He fell into a depression after losing his truck driver job and was battling to claim money from his old employer.
He was taking medication for his mental condition.
All he wanted was to earn a living to help look after his family.

Bhebhe is survived by his wife, their four young children, aged between two and nine, his mother and other relatives.
His body was repatriated to Zimbabwe with assistance from the Zimbabwe Solidarity Network.
He was set to be buried on Monday, 17 April 2023.

Zimbabwean Fruit Vendor Shot Dead By Guards In South Africa

A 23-year-old Zimbabwean man who was allegedly shot dead by a South African soldier at Limpopo River was buried in Bulawayo on Friday.
Mduduzi Mbulelo Mlilo was reportedly assisting border jumpers and smugglers at an illegal crossing point on 02 April when the soldier shot him once in the breast, killing him instantly.
Mlilo was among a group of 16 smugglers who were intercepted by South African soldiers at an illegal crossing point.
His body was taken to Tshilidzini Mortuary in Limpopo Province where it was kept pending police investigations.
The soldier who shot him has since been arrested and charged with murder and is set to stand trial at the Musina Regional Court on 15 May.
Mduduzi’s father, Dubayi Mlilo, told <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zim-man-killed-by-sa-soldier-buried-in-bulawayo/">the Chronicle</a> that his son was buried at Luveve cemetery. He said:

This is devastating; my son was killed just like that. If they were really implementing the law, they could have arrested him and taken him to court.
We have had an update from the police and we will follow the case with interest.
We are quiet saddened by this incident and we hope he will get justice.
</blockquote>
Mlilo said according to witnesses, Mduduzi was shot while assisting people to smuggle an assortment of goods, mainly onions.
He said he was told that the soldier jumped from a vehicle and opened fire at Mduduzi while standing on the river bank.
He then fell into the water and his body was later retrieved and taken to the mortuary around 8 PM after lying on the riverbed for almost six hours.
On 15 February this year, a member of the South African Border Guard shot and killed a Zimbabwean man at Beitbridge Border Post.
The man was allegedly shot for reprimanding the Border Guards for assaulting an old woman who was picking up empty cans and plastic containers for recycling.
The incident occurred at the foot of the New Limpopo Bridge (NLB) on the South African side of the border at around 4 AM.

Zimbabwean Man Shot Dead By South African Soldier Buried

A 45-year-old Zimbabwean biker who crossed into South Africa illegally was arrested on Friday after a high-speed chase in Tembisa with officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
The spokesperson for the EMPD Constable Marie Mashishi said the man, who was riding a motorbike, initially ignored instructions to stop and later produced a “fake” Zimbabwean driving licence. <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/not-so-fast-food-delivery-biker-in-high-speed-chase-with-cops-arrested-for-fake-zim-licence-in-ekurhuleni-2dfb1ff1-23da-4a7e-b30d-d97f52ce329f">IOL</a> quoted Mashishi as saying:

Metro police officers busy with law enforcement on Andrew Mapheto Drive near Esangweni section made an attempt to stop a motorcyclist for riding inconsiderately.
A biker ignored instructions and a chase ensued, until he was cornered, on Straight-line Road, near the Caprivi entertainment centre.
The undocumented lawbreaker, from Zimbabwe, was handcuffed and taken to the Rabasotho police station after producing a fraudulent Zimbabwean-issued driver’s licence to officers.
A case of fraud has been registered and charges under the Immigration Act could be added against him.

Mashishi said the Zimbabwean man is set to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
The biker’s red Big Boy scooter was impounded by the police and was towed to the Tembisa EMPD precinct for safekeeping.

Zimbabwean Biker Arrested After High Speed Chase With South African Cops

A Zimbabwean science teacher based in South Africa has won awards for recording the best results in the neighbouring country.
The teacher, Nkosiphile Moyo (34) of Filabusi, teaches Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics at the Johannesburg Polytechnic College in South Africa.
He recently walked away with an award for being the best educator in Physical Science and Mathematics under the 2022 National Senior Certificate Awards for Johannesburg East District.
According to the Chronicle, in 2020 Moyo was recognised for achieving a 100 percent Matric pass in Mathematics Literacy at Demseel College in Johannesburg.
Moyo was the first Sciences teacher at Mabhikwa High School in Lupane in 2013 and taught at the school up to 2018.
Moyo, who is a holder of a Bachelor of Science Education Honours Degree in Physics from the National University of Science and Technology, only studied Sciences at tertiary level as the secondary school he attended only offered Arts.
After leaving Mabhikwa High School, Moyo taught Sciences in various schools in Bulawayo from 2018 to 2019, before moving to South Africa in 2020. He said:

I received a certificate for recording a 100 percent Matric pass in Mathematic Literacy in that same year.

Moyo did his primary education at Tshazi Primary School from 1993 to 1999 and secondary at Tshazi Secondary School in Filabusi District from 2000 to 2003.
But due to financial challenges, he failed to immediately proceed to A-level and only proceeded with his education in 2006 and he completed his A-level in 2007.
He then proceeded to Hillside Teachers’ College in 2010 where he specialised in Sciences — Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Moyo attained a Bachelor of Science Education Honours Degree in Physics from the National University of Science and Technology in 2019.

Zimbabwean Maths & Science Teacher Shines In South Africa

A Zimbabwean national serving jail time at a prison in Maun, Botswana was killed by his Motswana cellmate after a fight ensued between the two in the dead of night on Sunday.
The Botswana Prison Service (BPS) has identified the now-deceased Zimbabwean national as Michael Phuti (31).
Phuti’s known address in Botswana is Magapatona Ward in Tutume Village, which is about 50km from the Zimbabwe border.
BPS spokesperson Senior Superintendent Oagile Kojane said the two inmates fought at around 11 PM. He added:

The incident resulted in one inmate being seriously injured and [he] was immediately rushed to the Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Osego Mosetlhane, 36, of Kgaphamadi Wadi in Gantsi.

Jailed Zimbabwean Man Killed In Botswana Prison Fight

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has warned members of the public against the unauthorised and illegal use of SAPS property.
This was after a video clip of a man who appears to be a Zimbabwean sitting behind the wheel of a marked police vehicle wearing a SAPS cap went viral on social media.
The man, who was sitting inside the SAPS car, and his colleague, who was apparently filming the incident, were speaking in Shona.
Commenting on the video, SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe warned that it was an offence for members of the public to wear police uniforms or distinctive marks of the SAPS without permission from the national commissioner. Said Mathe:

A civilian can be seen in a marked police vehicle wearing a SAPS cap. This unauthorised use of SAPS property and uniform is in direct contravention of the SAPS Act.
The civilian has committed at least three offences in terms of the SAPS Act; Section 66 (1), 68(1) and 68(3), in that he wore the emblems and official insignia of the SAPS.
The man has thus created the false impression that he is lawfully associated with the police service by being in a marked police vehicle and wearing the badge and emblem of the SAPS, which is protected by law.

Zimbabwean Man Sitting Behind Wheel Of Marked SAPS Car Invites Sharp Warning From SA Police

A 50-year-old Zimbabwean priest who was illegally living in South Africa was sentenced to two life terms for murder and rape in the neighbouring country.
The Zimbabwean national, Lucas Chauke, was sentenced to two life terms for murder and rape by the North West High Court.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) provincial spokesperson Henry Mamothame said Chauke was also jailed for another 30 years on two other counts of murder and rape.
Between 2017 and 2018, Chauke, a known priest, attacked three women.
In the first incident in 2017, Chauke took a 53-year-old woman to a secluded place, ostensibly to help spiritually but then raped the woman repeatedly and tied her to a tree before fleeing from the scene.
According to Mamothame, the victim managed to untie herself and ran for help. Chauke received a life sentence for this attack.
In the second incident, on 10 May 2018, Chauke took a 55-year-old woman to the same secluded place and raped her. He then fled the scene.
The victim failed to untie herself and her decomposed body was later discovered still tied to the tree.
Chauke was sentenced to life for murder and a further 15 years for rape
On 3 August 2018, Chauke took a 55-year-old woman to the same spot and tried to rape her, but failed. He tied the woman to a tree and left her to die.
He was sentenced to 15 years for murder. Said Mamothame:

Zimbabwean Priest Sentenced To 2 Life Terms For Rape And Murder In South Africa

A 30-year-old man believed to have been residing in Botswana illegally killed himself by hanging from the ceiling of his rented accommodation in Ditladi village last week.
According to Tonota Station Commander, Oteng Ngada, before taking his own life, the man reportedly told his friends that he was contemplating suicide saying life had become difficult for him. Said Ngada:

He complained of being broke without anything to eat and that he does not see a reason to live.
He then went inside his room around 1200 hours and his landlord noticed his house was dark around 2050 hours.
After knocking several times without an answer, the landlord entered only to find him hanging from the house rafters.
His body is still at Nyangabgwe mortuary, with the Post-Mortem set for Thursday.

"Broke" Zimbabwean Man Commits Suicide In Botswana

Police in South Africa’s North West have arrested a 38-year-old suspected serial rapist who allegedly targeted Shona-speaking Zimbabwean women.
The man reportedly used Facebook to lure more than 15 women by advertising jobs and would then rape and rob them when they arrived at the rendezvous.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh said the man was arrested on Tuesday after police received information about his whereabouts.
Myburgh revealed that one of the cases was reported in Potchefstroom on 9 September 2021. She said:

A 27-year-old woman, who was allegedly scheduled to meet a lady who promised her a job via WhatsApp, arrived at a shopping centre close to the taxi rank in Potchefstroom.
The woman, who was from Johannesburg, met with a man as arranged by the lady she had been communicating with. She and the man boarded a taxi and alighted at Extension 11, Ikageng.
The man allegedly took the woman to a bushy and secluded place next to the N12, where she was ultimately overpowered, strangled, raped and robbed of her personal property.

More than 15 rapes, all with the same method, had been reported between September 2021 and October 2022, added Myburgh.
She said the man was arrested at a house in Alabama, close to Klerksdorp.
The man was found with a knife and various cellphone sim cards, which police seized. Said Myburgh:

The team then proceeded to the suspect’s residence in Jouberton, Extension 11, where 11 bags full of ladies’ clothes (suspected to be belonging to victims) and eight cell phones were found. More sim cards were also seized.

SA Police Arrest Serial Rapist Who Targeted Shona-speaking Women

A Zimbabwean man and his daughter are among 10 people killed on Friday in an explosion at a petrol station in Ireland.
The explosion occurred just after 3 PM local time at the Applegreen petrol station on the outskirts of the village of Creeslough, in the Irish county of Donegal.
On Sunday, police released the names of the 10 victims, among them the Zimbabwean man Robert Garwe (59) and his daughter Shauna Flanagan Garwe (5).
Shauna and her father had just entered the petrol station shop to buy a birthday cake for her mum when the explosion happened.
Police identified other victims as Catherine O Donnell, 39, and her 13-year-old son James Monaghan, James O Flaherty, 48, Jessica Gallagher, 24, Martin McGill, 49, Hugh Kelly, 59, Martina Martin, 49, and 14-year-old Leona Harper. Said Superintendent David Kelly:

We have to keep an open mind as a police service in how we investigate this but our information at this point in time is pointing towards a tragic accident.

Eight people were being treated in hospital, including one with critical injuries who was airlifted to Dublin, the Irish capital.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin described the incident as an unspeakable tragedy. He expressed his sympathies to the families and friends of the victims.
Bernard Doherty, who lives nearby and knew all but one of the victims, told national broadcaster RTE:

Rubble had been blown across the forecourt as far as the road. There was everything from tin to blocks, floor slabs, and contents from the shop just lying around the place.
About 20 seconds after landing on the scene, we knew what was ahead.
