The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has made arrests in connection with a series of armed robberies that occurred in and around Harare between December 29, 2023, and February 6, 2024. A police report seen by Pindula News states that the suspects, identified as Patricia Mutedzi, Munyaradzi Jonga, and Munyaradzi Sandaka, allegedly targeted security guards and homeowners, stealing cash and valuables at gunpoint. On 14th February 2024 detectives from CID Homicide received information which linked Patricia Mutedzi to the robbery cases after a Toyota Mark X vehicle, registration number AEQ 7631, which she was driving was captured on CCTV at one of the robbery scenes. The detectives acted on received information and arrested Patricia Mutedzi at Damview Lodge leading to the recovery of the vehicle which was being used as a getaway car.
The suspect implicated Munyaradzi Jonga and Munyaradzi Sandaka and another suspect only identified as Madzibaba Mandaza as her accomplices. The detectives tracked Munyaradzi Sandaka to his residence at Retreat Farm, Waterfalls where he resisted arrest resulting in him being shot on the right leg before being arrested. The arrest led to the recovery of a 0.38 Rossi Revolver with five live rounds, jewellery, two gold scales, diamond detector and three satchels with suspected minerals.
Munyaradzi Jonga led the detectives to Munyaradzi Sandaka’s place of residence in Glenview 8. On seeing the detectives, Munyaradzi Sandaka bolted out and was shot on the shin before his arrest.

The four suspects are believed to be responsible for six robbery cases, including the theft of ZAR8,000.00 and two cellphones from a house in Waterfalls and the theft of a safe containing US$13,000.00 from a house along Leonard Road, both in Harare.
In a separate incident in Ngundu, Masvingo, the police arrested Brain Jazi and Joseph Makuvise for conspiracy to commit robbery. The police intercepted the suspects, who were travelling in a Toyota Runx vehicle, and ordered them to the ground. A police statement read:

Police crack team in Masvingo acted on received information and tracked the three armed robbery suspects who were travelling in a Toyota Runx motor vehicle enroute to Chiredzi where they intended to commit a robbery.
On reaching the Ngundu-Tanganda Turn-off, the police crack team intercepted the three armed robbery suspects, who had parked their motor vehicle in a bush and started walking towards Ngundu Business Centre, before ordering them to lie on the ground. Pardon Shoko resisted arrest. He pointed a LLAMA Trade Mark Gabilondo Y Ciavitoria (ESPANA) pistol at the police officers. Resultantly, the suspect was shot on the shoulder and referred to a local clinic where he died on admission.
The arrest of Brain Jazi and Joseph Makuvise led to the recovery of a LLAMA Trade Mark Gabilondo Y Ciavitoria (ESPANA) pistol loaded with two rounds, 10 plastic cable ties, a hammer, a black and silver torch, four cell phones and an Econet sim card.
Investigations carried out linked the suspects to an armed robbery case which occurred at Robel Prowel Hardware in Masvingo CBD in January 2024 where the suspects attacked the victim before stealing US$38 455.00 and ZAR18 000.00. The suspects are also linked to another robbery case which occurred in January 2024 at a college in ZEXCOM Masvingo, where the suspects attacked a victim before stealing USD$23 000.00 from a safe.

Additionally, the police arrested Brain Madondo, Timothy Sharu, Thias Dafi, and Melody Savanhu at Mapondera Shopping Centre in Harare following a report of a brawl at a sports bar. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said:

A search was conducted into the suspects’ motor vehicle leading to the recovery of a 9mm P29 pistol with an empty magazine, 2 X 7.65mm live rounds, a deformed bar, 1 X 6 pounds hammer, a screw driver, a knife, a Honor cell phone and one spent cartridge.

Four women from Hatcliffe Extension in Zimbabwe have been sentenced to nine months in jail for assaulting and undressing a woman they believed was having an affair with a married man. The incident, which was captured in a video that circulated on social media, showed the victim being attacked by five female suspects. The Zimbabwe Republic Police investigated the case and arrested the assailants. 
The victim suffered injuries from the assault and was treated at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital. The police, however, denied rumours circulating on social media about the victim’s death.

The assailants involved in the incident were identified as Zeripah Kanduza, Natasha Kanduza, Fortunate Tembo, 18-year-old Mitchel Kariwo, and Olleen Vinyungwi. The four – Zeripah Kanduza, Natasha Kanduza, Fortunate Tembo and Olleyn Vinyungwi – pleaded guilty to the charges of assault.
The four women from Hatcliffe Extension reportedly targeted the victim due to suspicions of her involvement with a married man. Police warn members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, violence and vigilantism, saying they should instead seek legal recourse for any offence. It is not the first time such cases have been reported.

Four Hatcliffe Women Sentenced To Jail For Assaulting Alleged "Mistress"

The family of Godknows Machingura, a suspect in an armed robbery case, is demanding an independent inquiry into his killing by police detectives. They believe that the police account of the shooting does not match the evidence observed during the autopsy or the explanations given by Machingura’s friends. Machingura, who was 44 years old at the time, was shot dead by detectives from the Harare CID homicide in December 2023.
According to the police, Machingura and his five friends, including Paul Zhou and Jabulani Ngobeni, were trailed by detectives who received a tip about their planned robberies, including targeting prominent individuals for ransom. The police claimed that Machingura died from a gunshot wound to the groin after a shootout in the Arcadia suburb of Harare.
However, a family member, speaking anonymously, disputed the police’s account, insisting that Machingura was a victim of police execution. She stated that during the post-mortem examination, five bullet wounds were observed on his body, including two shots to the head, one below the ribs, and two on his legs. The family member shared graphic images from Machingura’s autopsy, showing the gunshot wounds and his badly beaten body. She told ZimLive:

In the news, it is falsely reported that Godknows sustained a gunshot wound yet he has five gunshot wounds; two shots in the head, one gunshot below the ribs, and two gunshots on his legs.

According to the family member, Machingura had been under surveillance by the police since April last year, and detectives eventually used Zhou to lure him to his death. She claimed that Machingura was dragged into Zhou’s house, where he was severely beaten before being forced into a vehicle and driven to an unknown location where he was killed. The family member said:

Godknows was lured by the police to go to Zhou’s Waterfalls residence where armed CID officers fired shots three times in the air and commanded him to get out of his car and put his hands in the air before cuffing him.
He was dragged into Zhou’s house where he was severely beaten.
We hear that officers who held him captive then discussed among themselves on who among the six was should die on the day and they agreed on Machingura and Jabulani (Ngobeni).
Godknows and Jabulani were forced into Honda Fit vehicles and driven to an unknown location where they were killed and the remaining four were taken to remand.
Godknows back was also torn, and Jabulani also on his armpit has a huge hole, even his hands were torn apart by what appears to be very sharp objects.
These people are cruel and we want justice.

The family members expressed frustration in their efforts to uncover the truth from the police. In response, the national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, advised the family to approach the Commissioner of Police if they felt aggrieved by the police conduct. Family Demands Independent Inquiry As Godknows Machingura's Killing By Police Sparks Controversy

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 24-year-old man named Takudzwa Sasa in Beatrice for unlawful possession of 1.5 metric tons of copper. According to a police report seen by Pindula News, Sasa was driving a white Toyota GD6 vehicle when he evaded a security roadblock manned by the police along the Masvingo-Harare Road. The police pursued him and eventually arrested him in Beatrice. During a search of his vehicle, the police discovered various copper items, including armoured cable, copper wire, copper pipes, and transformer copper windings. Read the police report:

Theft of copper cables has become a growing concern in Zimbabwe. It is reported that much of the stolen copper is sold to South Africa and then exported overseas. This issue has harmed institutions such as the power utility company (ZESA), the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), TelOne, and households that rely on their services.
Some social media users praised the police for the arrest, while others expressed scepticism. Some suggested that the suspect might have connections to political elites considering the car he was driving and could be released quickly.

24-Year-Old Arrested For Unlawful Possession Of 1.5 metric Tons Of Copper In Zimbabwe

Bus and commuter omnibus operators in Harare have revealed that rank marshals are colluding with corrupt police and municipal officers to collect unauthorized taxes at bus termini, pocketing an estimated US$1 million each month. The rank marshals, who work with five associations representing the operators, reportedly collect up to US$240,000 per month from each association.
According to Mr. Pious Chidzenga, the head of operations for the Zimbabwe Union of Drivers and Conductors (ZUDAC), each driver is forced to pay US$2 for every trip they make into the rank, resulting in rank marshals earning US$10 per driver daily. This exploitative practice extends over a month, with drivers individually contributing US$300. With over 800 members in ZUDAC alone, the rank marshals accumulate US$240,000 monthly from this association alone. He told The <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/rank-marshals-pocket-us1m-a-month">Sunday Mail</a>:

Each driver is compelled to pay US$2 for every one of the five daily trips they make into the rank. Simple multiplication will tell you that rank marshals pocket a substantial US$10 per driver each day. This exploitative practice persists over a month, with drivers contributing US$300 per month individually. When multiplied by the 800 members of ZUDAC alone, the rank marshals accumulate US$ 240,000 monthly. This figure represents just one association out of the more than five operating within Harare.

During a public transport stakeholders meeting, Harare’s police officer commanding, Commissioner Wonder Tembo, expressed his disapproval of this behavior and announced an upcoming operation to eradicate this criminal syndicate. He acknowledged that some rank marshals falsely claim association with senior political figures but assured stakeholders that the police would not tolerate such behavior. He said:

As officer commanding Harare, I want to mention that as police, we don’t condone such kind of behaviour that is prevailing at various bus ranks. We are having running battles with people who claim they own certain ranks. I have tasked my assistant commissioners to sit down with Harare City Council officials to come up with an operation to tame this menace.
We are aware that many of these rank marshals hide behind political parties, but we have never received a call from any political party or Government questioning why we have arrested certain troublemakers.
I urge you (council) to also come up with an operation and as law-enforcement agents, we will support you and we will come in our numbers to help you. We don’t want to be the initiators of the job that is supposed to be done by you.

Commissioner Tembo urged operators to resist paying the rank marshals and assured them of police support if they faced intimidation. 
Harare’s Mayor, Cllr Jacob Mafume, acknowledged that rank marshals had gained excessive power at council bus stations but assured stakeholders that action would be taken to restore order. He announced plans for the council to take over the ranks and address the situation in the coming month.

They tried to escape but were shot in the legs by the police. They are now in the hospital receiving treatment. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Talent Mutandwa (29) and Enock Maseko (35) in connection with a case of robbery which occurred on 27th January 2024 in Rondor, Chakari, Chegutu in which the suspects who were wearing balaclavas and armed with machetes and Colombian knives, attacked two victims before stealing cell phones and unknown amount of cash.
On 27th January 2024, detectives from CID Chegutu acted on received information and arrested Enock Maseko who was aboard a silver Toyota Runx. The suspect’s arrest led to the recovery of a pistol, an okapi knife, a balaclava and machete.
Enock Maseko led the detectives to Ingezi, Kadoma where Talent Mutandwa, was subsequently arrested. Talent Mutandwa’s arrest led to the recovery of a firearm and a dagger.
The suspects led the detectives to Martin Spur, Kadoma where they claimed to have hidden weapons used to commit robbery cases. The detectives shot the two suspects on the legs after they tried to escape during indications. The suspects are currently admitted at a hospital in Chegutu where they are receiving treatment. Investigations by the Police have revealed that the suspects are on warrant of arrest which was issued by Chegutu Magistrates Court on 16th January 2024 after they defaulted bail conditions on a murder case.
The Police has also established that the suspects are clearing cases of murder, robbery, malicious damage to property and attempted murder which occurred on 13th January 2024 at Pfupajena Stadium, Chegutu.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against robbery cases. Any form of confrontation clashes with Police crack teams will be met with appropriate response.

Two Robbery Suspects Shot After Attempting To Escape From Police During Arrest

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported the arrest of six men for impersonating members of the security services and for the unlawful possession of Crystal Meth. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the arrest came after detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics received information that the suspects were demanding a bribe from Tafadzwa Lovemore Mudzekenyedze, whom they had allegedly arrested for drug supply. The suspects were found in possession of a BMW vehicle, a ZRP identity card, Crystal Meth, handcuffs, GPS tracking devices, and pepper spray. On 18th January 2024, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare received information that the suspects were demanding US$ 1 000.00 bribe from Tafadzwa Lovemore Mudzekenyedze after they had allegedly apprehended him in Kuwadzana for supplying dangerous drugs to the public. The suspects posed as members of the security services during the encounter.
The detectives acted on the received information and arrested the suspects after tracking them to a side road near Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Grounds, Harare. The arrest led to the recovery of the suspects’ get-away car, a BMW vehicle, registration number ABG 7648, a ZRP identity card, five grammes of Crystal Meth, a pair of handcuffs, three GPS tracking devices and a paper spray.
The suspects are being linked to another case of impersonating police officers which occurred on 31st December 2023 at a house along Stoneridge Road, Avondale, Harare where the suspects posed as detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare before apprehending Paola Thompson for unlawful cultivation of dagga. Subsequently, the suspects were allegedly given US$500.00 as bribe by Paola Thompson.
Detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare had already acted on received information and arrested Paola Thompson and her father, Tony Octave Cesano for unlawfully cultivating dagga on 03rd January 2024. The two have already appeared at Harare Magistrate Court for trial.
The Police is on high alert to arrest criminals masquerading as members of the security services while soliciting for bribes from unsuspecting members of the public. According to this law, if someone uses a computer or information system to spread false information about a person to cause harm to them psychologically or economically, they can be charged with a criminal offence. The punishment for this offence can be a fine or imprisonment for up to five years or both.

<li>The Act also establishes offences against children, such as recording genitalia and buttocks beneath clothing without consent, production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material, and exposing children to pornography.</li>
<li>All the aforementioned offences carry a fine ranging from level 10 to level 14, and imprisonment for a minimum period of 5 to 10 years.</li>

Woman Arrested For Alleging That Adela Construction Was Selling Sewage Water

Some members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Beitbridge, Zimbabwe, are accused of stealing a document that implicates their colleagues in car smuggling. The document is a fraudulent vehicle clearance certificate allegedly issued by detectives Tererayi Silindeni and Munyaradzi Moyo. It is believed that Silindeni and Moyo collaborated with Detective Joseph Mosi to facilitate the clearance of a Toyota Wish car purchased in South Africa into Zimbabwe.
National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and stated that the police are investigating the case. He told NewsDay:

We are investigating that case which may have occurred at Beitbridge. Criminal and disciplinary charges have been made to those three. We want to state there is no room for criminality in the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). All the facts in your media inquiry are correct and more arrests are possible.

According to court papers, the fraudulent clearance certificate was issued to Julian Morris Ndou without properly inspecting the car, claiming it was a Toyota Hiace. Ndou used the fake documents to buy a Toyota Wish vehicle in South Africa and then drove it to Zimbabwe with Rodywin Gweshero and Tirawe Chiwara. They attempted to avoid paying duty by making it appear as if the vehicle had left the country previously.
During their journey, a police officer at a checkpoint became suspicious when he noticed a third number plate attached to the car with tape. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the vehicle had been smuggled, leading to the arrest of Gweshero and Chiwara. They implicated the detectives, resulting in their subsequent arrest.
However, when Silindeni, Moyo, and Mosi appeared in court, the vehicle clearance document that linked the first two detectives went missing. The three detectives were granted bail, while Gweshero and Chiwara paid bail as well.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested five suspects in connection with multiple armed robbery cases involving over US$210,000. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nayathi said the robberies took place in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls between May and December 2023.
He said the suspects targeted businesses and homes where large sums of money were kept. The arrests have cleared 11 robbery cases. Read the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Silence Kwangwa (26), Ayanda Ncube (32), Julias Mugwagwa (28), Douglas Rizani (32) and Edzayi Madondo (38) in connection with a spate of armed robbery cases which occurred in and around Bulawayo and Victoria Falls between May and December 2023, where the suspects would target business and residential premises for families and business people who keep large sums of money at home.
On 22nd December 2023, police acted on received information leading to the arrest of the five suspects, whom upon being interviewed, implicated their accomplices, Wellington Ndoro (26) and Felias Mvula (54), who are already in custody on remand after they were arrested in Victoria Falls for another robbery case which occurred on 14th December 2023.
The arrest has so far cleared 11 robbery cases. Some of the cases include a robbery case in which the suspects attacked a milling company in Bulawayo on 23rd September 2023 and went away with a chub safe containing US$ 40 000-00 and another robbery case that occurred on 2nd November 2023, in which they allegedly attacked some security guards on duty at a company premise in Belmont Bulawayo before breaking into offices where they stole US$19 204-00 cash, 2.2 kilogrammes of gold, two laptops, CCTV DVR, various cellphones and other valuables, all worth US$154 304-00.
Investigations by the police led to the recovery of a blue Honda Fit vehicle registration number AEQ 3032, a 9mm CZ Pistol with erased serial numbers, Cash safe, CCTV DVR, Asus Laptop, HP 255 laptop, MAC Book, Huawei 8i cellphone, Samsung Tablet SMT560, Infinite Smart 6 cellphone, two Huawei cellphones, three Itel Smartphones, Samsung A34 cellphone, KG Tel cellphone, an Iphone, Samsung 20 Smartphone, 2000 Pakistan Rupees from Silence Kangwa’s residence in Trenance, Bulawayo.
In another case, the Police have arrested Willium Dhumukwa (34), James Zawi (29) and Chishamiso Muganiri (30) who were part of a 15 member gang which pounced on a Mine in Kadoma and went away with a Toyota Hilux vehicle, three cellphones 17 bags of carbon among other valuables on 17th December 2023. The suspects who were armed with two pistols and two 303 rifles escaped after having been involved in a shoot-out with the police at the mine and they dropped the two 303 rifles at the scene.
Detectives acted on received information and tracked the suspects to Mbare where the suspects were arrested after a shoot-out with Willium Dhumukwa being shot on the thigh. Further investigations revealed that the recovered 303 rifles were reported stolen in Harare through a robbery on 8th December 2023.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds members of the public for supplying useful information to the police and reiterates that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery syndicates which involve both local and foreign suspects.

<h3>Baby Dumping is a growing problem:</h3>
Baby dumping is a prevalent crime in Zimbabwe, with many women being arrested for it over the years. Some women attribute their actions to poverty, while others abandon their babies in hopes of securing relationships with new partners. The president of the Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA), George Kandiero, believes that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/07/26/men-contribute-to-baby-dumping-zinatha-president/">women often abandon their babies due to neglect by the father.</a> Kandiero also believes that baby dumping may be a result of multiple partners, making it difficult for the mother to identify the child’s biological father.
Some argue that the lack of financial resources to support the baby is a common reason, while some emphasise the importance of educating girls about reproductive issues to prevent such situations. In 2021, a student from Great Zimbabwe University was <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/05/gzu-student-pleads-guilty-to-baby-dumping-jailed-6-months/">sentenced to six months in jail for baby dumping</a>. She explained to the court that she didn’t know what to do with the baby since she was still studying at the university.

20-year-old Woman Arrested For Throwing Her two-month-old Baby Into A Toilet

Police Superintendent Vulindlela Jamela, who holds the position of deputy officer commanding the Kwekwe district in Zimbabwe, has been implicated in a case of road extortion. A motorist, Tapiwa Marozva, reported that he was forced to pay a $5 bribe to four traffic officers along the Kwekwe-Zhombe road, <a href="https://newshubzim.co.zw/2023/12/20/senior-cop-sucked-into-5-traffic-extortion/">NewsHub’s Brenna Matendere</a> reported.
Marozva reported an incident of bribery to ACT-SA, who then informed Superintendent Jamela. However, Jamela returned the bribe money and dismissed the matter as minor, without taking action against the officers involved. Marozva stated in his written statement that he was stopped by four police officers while transporting mourners and was asked to pay a $5 bribe. He borrowed the money from a friend to satisfy the officers’ demands. Read part of the complaint:

My plight started on the 29th of August 2023, when I was forced to pay a US$5 bribe to police officers based in Kwekwe who had mounted a roadblock along Kwekwe-Zhombe road.
Upon pressure from four police officers…comprised of (sic) two female and two male (police details), I ended up borrowing the money from my friend known as Shingi and paid the bribe since I did not want to delay the mourners who were rushing to attend a funeral service.
These mourners are my witnesses and they will explain what happened if needed. In addition, the person from whom I borrowed the money knows exactly the purpose of the money that I borrowed from him and can testify.
</blockquote>
Marozva expected action from Jamela against the four police officers involved, but Jamela returned the $5 bribe and dismissed the incident as minor. According to the Police Act, Jamela should have taken disciplinary or criminal action. Jamela claimed he didn’t act because Marozva couldn’t identify the officers, but ACT-SA had provided their identities. Police procedures require keeping records of officers’ deployments which means the identities of involved officers are known. Jamela stated that returning the money was a personal decision to assist Marozva, not a cover-up. He told NewsHub:

There were no names which were given to me by the complainant regarding who he gave the bribe money so I could not act on the matter.
That ($5) was not a refund of the bribe money. It was just money from my pocket which I gave the complainant to use as bus fare to go back to his home.

Jamela stated that he didn’t want to give much importance to the information provided by ACT-SA because he didn’t trust their director, Obert Chinhamo. He said Chinhamo was involved in criminal activities and didn’t consider him to be a professional. Therefore, he didn’t want to engage with him.
ACT-SA has been monitoring and documenting corruption cases in Kwekwe and the Midlands province for a significant period. Chinhamo said corruption within the Zimbabwe Republic Police was rife in Kwekwe.

ACT-SA has handled so many cases of corruption other than this one by Kwekwe police and some of these cases were brought to the attention of the management of the police at district level and their headquarters in Harare, in addition to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission. In several cases, police officers receive bribes from pirate vehicle operators. This is done in the full view of the public.

Chinhamo emphasised the need to punish police officers involved in corruption rather than simply transferring them. He also highlighted the community’s demand for all police officers to declare their assets, as there are suspicions that some have acquired significant wealth through corrupt means. Marozva reported being harassed by the police officers he had reported to ACT-SA and Jamela. On multiple occasions, the officers threatened him. Marozva further alleged that on 13 November, other traffic police officers stopped him and attempted to forcefully take his car key, resulting in it being broken.
Zimbabwe has yet to establish a law to protect whistleblowers.

Police Superintendent Implicated In A Case Of Road Extortion

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has sparked outrage by blocking a solidarity rally for jailed opposition politician Job Wiwa Sikhala. The rally, organised by the Job Sikhala Solidarity Council, was intended to put pressure on the government to release Sikhala, who has been in prison since June 2022 on charges of incitement to public violence. The police claimed that the rally did not meet the requirements of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Maintenance_of_Peace_and_Order_Bill_(MOPA)/">Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPA)</a> and therefore could not be sanctioned, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200021202/police-block-sikhala-rally">NewsDay</a> reported citing a letter from the police. The notification to hold a procession rally in solidarity with Job Sikhala at Huruyadzo Community Hall on December 23 is prohibited. The notification does not meet the requirements of section 7 of the Mopa Act. Therefore, your event was not sanctioned.

In response, the organisers of the rally accused the police of using Mopa as a pretext to stifle dissent and deny citizens their constitutional rights. They condemned the “systematic restriction of all activities done in the name of Job Sikhala by the Zimbabwean State”. They said:

The Job Sikhala Solidarity Council notes with disgust the blocking of the December 23 solidarity rally by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), it said.
The ZRP claims that the notification failed to meet the requirements of Mopa, an excuse that has been consistently used to deny citizens their freedom of association and assembly.
It is apparent that the name Job Sikhala attracts repression from the regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa. The State has caged Sikhala for more than 18 months, but they still shiver at the mere mention of Sikhala’s name.
The council will not be deterred by this setback. A series of solidarity activities are lined up to rally the millions of pro-democracy campaigners in Zimbabwe and beyond to collectively demand the release of Job Sikhala.

This incident is seen as yet another example of the government’s crackdown on opposition voices and the suppression of freedom of assembly and association. It highlights the ongoing concerns about democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe. The blocking of the rally and Sikhala’s continued detention without trial raises questions about the fairness and impartiality of the judicial system.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/14/just-in-moreblessing-ali-family-lawyer-job-sikhala-arrested/">Job Sikhala was arrested for allegedly inciting violence</a> following the gruesome murder of activist Moreblessing Ali. In May 2023, Ali, who was a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the main opposition party in Zimbabwe, was brutally murdered by Pius Mukandi Jamba, and her mutilated body was found dumped in a well in Nyatsime. During Ali’s funeral wake, clashes erupted between ZANU PF and CCC supporters. Sikhala, who represented Ali’s family in seeking justice, was arrested and held in prison without trial for inciting the violence.
Meanwhile, Pius Jamba, the perpetrator of Ali’s murder, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/12/20/moreblessing-alis-killer-pius-mukandi-sentenced-to-30-years-in-jail/">was sentenced to 30 years in prison</a> by Harare High Court Judge Esther Muremba. However, Sikhala remains in prison, having spent 555 days in pre-trial detention as of December 22, 2023, for his involvement in seeking justice for Moreblessing Ali.

<h3>COMMISSIONER-GENERAL OF POLICE FESTIVE SEASON STATEMENT ON CRIME AND ROAD SAFETY</h3>
The 2023 festive season is upon us as Zimbabweans and visitors embark on various socio-economic activities to celebrate the Unity Day, Christmas and New Year holidays.
Obviously, the Zimbabwe Republic Police will witness an increase in the flow of traffic on the country’s roads. Road traffic accidents and violations of road rules and regulations take centre stage during this period. The Zimbabwe Republic Police will therefore deploy police officers to conduct roadblocks, traffic blitz, stop and search/motorized, cycle and foot patrols throughout the country to curb crime, road traffic accidents and maintain law and order as the public merry make in the spirit of Unity Day, Christmas and New Year.
My office urges motorists to cooperate with police officers on deployment in order to take action on errant drivers and other law breaches. I have directed all Officers Commanding Police Provinces to ensure that all defective or unroad worthy vehicles are impounded for the safety of travellers. In this vein, no pirate taxis will be allowed to pass through Police check points.
Transporters are implored to play their part in terms of road safety and ensure that their vehicles are certified fit to carry passengers from one place to another. Drivers of both public and private vehicles should not speed, overload or mix goods with passengers, among other road traffic offences.
As the rain season has just started, I plead with the motoring public to exercise caution as some roads are slippery. Motorists should not attempt to cross flooded rivers and bridges to curb drowning incidents.
May I caution Public Service Vehicle Operators, both local and cross border to minimise night travelling as most fatal road traffic accidents are being recorded at night due to vision and observation challenges. For those going on holiday in all parts of the country, let us be alert and safety conscious to curb cases of robbery, murder and other crimes. I therefore, implore families, business people and institutions to avoid carrying or keeping large sums of money at home or offices to curb robbery cases.
The safety and security of children should also be prioritised during this period. As the nation steps up the fight against drug and substance abuse in the country, may I urge the public to continue giving my office information on drug barons and suppliers for the law to take its course.
Parents and guardians should also be on the forefront of safeguarding the youths and adults from the scourge of drug and substance abuse. The Police will also take decisive action against anyone operating unlicensed liquor outlets or shebeens during this period. Owners of liquor outlets are enjoined to conduct their business within the parameters of their respective licences.
My office will also take action on reports of corruption on the country’s roads and other traffic enforcement points by both drivers and Police officers. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported on several criminal incidents that have taken place in different parts of the country. In various reports seen by Pindula News, police said these incidents include murder, robbery, accidents, and illegal possession of firearms.
In Mazowe, the police have arrested a woman named Sarah Chivadzwa (37) who is suspected to be mentally ill. She is connected to a murder case that occurred on December 14th, 2023 at Cetric Farm, Chebanga Village. The victim was her 7-year-old nephew who was struck on the head with an axe. The suspect had reportedly told her uncle that she had a nightmare in which she dreamt of killing her 5-year-old daughter.
In Harare, the police are seeking information regarding the identification of a deceased adult male. The body was found near Spar Supermarket, Current Shopping Centre in Budiriro 5 A. The victim had a cut on his head and was wearing black trousers and a torn purple shirt. Anyone with information is urged to report it to the nearest police station.
Another case in Harare involves a robbery that occurred along Mutare Road near Ruwa. The victim was stabbed multiple times on the thigh and back by five suspects who were travelling in a Honda CRV vehicle. The suspects offered the complainant a lift from Simon Muzenda bus terminus in Harare CBD to Mutare. They stole US$14,035.00 in cash and a cellphone. The police are appealing to the public for any information that can assist in the investigation.
In Jumbo Mine, Mazowe, the police arrested Leeward Chawata (24) for possession of a pistol without a certificate during an operation against machete gangs and illegal gold mining. Chawata was arrested while involved in a fight with artisanal miners.

Crime Watch: Man Stabbed And Robbed Of Over US$14,000 By People Who Offered Him Transport

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) recently released a report on various crimes that have occurred across the country, including murder and theft. 
Theft Of Presidential Inputs Program Fertilisers: On 11th December 2023, police officers stationed at a security roadblock along Harare-Mukumbura Road intercepted a Toyota Noah vehicle. They arrested Leonard Murwadzi (34) for possessing 30 x 50-kilogram bags of Compound D fertilizers, which are part of the Presidential Inputs program. The investigation revealed that Murwadzi had purchased the fertilizers in Mukumbura. Authorities are currently working to identify the individuals involved in the illegal sale of these goods.
Murder Cases:
In another case, the police in Karoi are investigating a murder that occurred on 11th November 2023 in the Chiedza suburb. Initially reported as a sudden death, it was discovered that a 15-year-old male juvenile died after being hit in the eye by an object. The object allegedly exploded when the victim threw it into a fire. Further investigation revealed that the victim had been shot in the head by a 13-year-old male juvenile using a 0.32 Revolver Taurus pistol. The suspect confessed that he wanted to test if the firearm was lethal. The pistol had been given to him by a 10-year-old male juvenile, whose elder brother, Takudzwa Saini (18), owned the weapon.
Similarly, in Madlambuzi, the police have arrested Calbert Mpofu (30) in connection with the murder of his uncle, Lisani Dube (46). Dube was fatally struck on the forehead with a knobkerrie during a drinking spree at Kungubo Business Centre on 9th December 2023.
Lastly, in Plumtree, the police are investigating the murder of Oscar Muleya (35), whose body was found on 11th December 2023. Muleya had numerous bruises on his body and strangulation marks on his neck. The crime scene was discovered along a fireguard between Orange Groove Farm and the Bulawayo/Plumtree railway line.

Valentine Ziko, a student at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), was reportedly kidnapped on Monday during a violent police raid. Fadzayi Mahere, a Member of Parliament, stated that Ziko was taken by a group of unknown men who attacked, covered his eyes and shoved him into a car. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Mahere, a senior official in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), mentioned that Ziko was questioned about his association with the party. She said:

ALERT: We’ve received a report that Valentine Ziko, a student, was abducted from Chinhoyi University of Technology yesterday. During a violent police raid, a group of unknown men attacked and blindfolded him. They bundled him into a car where they started assaulting him. They took him to an unknown location, tortured and sprayed cold water on him while demanding the whereabouts of other named students. They kept beating him up and forced him to unlock his phone. They interrogated him about @Zinasuzim and @CCCZimbabwe.
They interrogated him about the CCC plan following the forced removal of CCC MP, Hon Kufahakutizwe, from Mabvuku Tafara constituency. He told them he wasn’t aware of CCC plans whereupon they bundled him back into a vehicle and dropped him off close to a local bridge where he eventually received assistance. The hounding and torture of members of the Student Movement must be condemned by all progressive citizens. It’s not a crime to push for improved student welfare, better learning conditions and education delivery that works for everyone.

There have been an increasing number of reports about the abduction and torture of government critics, including activists from the CCC party, human rights defenders, and journalists. Some of them have been seriously injured, while others have been found dead, like Pastor Masaya, or have disappeared without a trace, as in the case of Itai Dzamara. It is suspected that state security agents are responsible for these abductions.
The government has previously denied these allegations, claiming that the abductions are staged to tarnish its reputation. They have also suggested that a “third party” might be responsible for the abductions to damage the government’s image internationally. Government authorities argue that Zimbabwe is working towards improving its relationships with other countries and cannot risk damaging these relationships by openly violating human rights.
However, some analysts believe that the ruling party, ZANU PF, has little regard for human rights and is capable of torture and killing. This belief stems from the deployment of soldiers who used live ammunition against civilians in 2018. Several other incidents are being used as evidence of ZANU PF’s capacity to abduct, torture and or kill people.

Chinhoyi University Student Abducted And Tortured - Mahere

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported on various crimes that have occurred across the country including murder, hit-and-run accidents, and drug possession.
In Dotito, Mashonaland Central Province, the police are investigating a murder case where the body of an unidentified 4-year-old girl was found dumped in a pit toilet on 8th December 2023. The police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and report it at the nearest police station.
In Gutu in Masvingo Province, a man named Collen Mawere (43) has been arrested for the murder of his brother-in-law, Afinos Museka (59). The incident occurred on 8th December 2023 at Chihambakwe Business Centre in Gutu. Mawere allegedly assaulted Museka during a heated argument about childcare, causing Museka to fall and subsequently die.
On 9th December 2023, in Chikombedzi in Masvingo Province, four individuals named Godfree Sibanda (28), Last Lisenga (62), Cosmas Mazvetera (45), and Cephas Siziba (22) were arrested in connection with a murder case. The victim, Peterson Chitsengo (40), was assaulted by the suspects during a drinking session on 7th December 2023 at Mateke Business Centre in Mwenezi. Chitsengo sustained head injuries and was admitted to the hospital, where his condition worsened and he passed away.
In Gwanda, Matabeleland South Province, the police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred on 9th December 2023 along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. A male adult was killed after being hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident. The police are urging anyone with information to report it at the nearest police station.
Furthermore, on the same day, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics in Harare arrested a man named Collen Nyakarenga (35) for the unlawful possession of 1,530 kilograms of dagga (marijuana) with a street value of ZW$50,000,000. The detectives pretended to be potential buyers and arranged a meeting with the suspect at Skyline tollgate along Masvingo Highway. Nyakarenga was apprehended after producing a sack of dagga from his vehicle. The detectives also discovered an additional 16 sacks of dagga at the suspect’s residence. The police are reminding the public about the dangers of drugs and urging people to say no to drugs.

Crime Watch: 4-year-old Girl Found Dumped In A Pit Toilet

Police in Chegutu are investigating a robbery that took place at a house in Pfupajena where over US$11,000 was stolen. A police report seen by Pindula News states that on 03 December 2023 at around 6:45 PM, two unidentified men armed with a pistol attacked a motorist who was collecting cash from a service station. They stole $5,800, which was the daily sales cash, from the victim. They then forced her to drive to her residence, where they took another $5,300 from a wardrobe. Read the police report:

In another incident, police in Kadoma are investigating a robbery at a cyanidation plant. It is alleged that on the 3rd of December 2023, ten suspects armed with axes and iron bars attacked two pump attendants. They stole 200 kilograms of pregnant gold carbons and other valuable items.

Robbers Steal Over US$11,000 At A House In Chegutu

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said police are currently investigating the murder of Tapfumaneyi Masaya. Masaya, a clergyman and activist for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, was <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/11/14/police-confirm-death-of-tapfumanei-masaya/">allegedly abducted and later found dead</a> in Harare. He had been conducting a political campaign when he was abducted. The CCC has claimed that Masaya suffered severe injuries and his body had decomposed due to the injection of a harmful substance. There are calls for the police to thoroughly investigate his murder. In an update on the case, police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

Six armed robbers raided a house in Waterfalls, Harare on November 22, 2023, and escaped with $10,000 in cash and four cell phones. A police report seen by Pindula News says the robbers attacked three family members. Read the report:

Armed Robbers Pounce On A Waterfalls House And Get Away With US$10,000 Cash

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), led by Douglas Mwonzora, stated that the police and Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) did not find any evidence of wrongdoing when they searched Morgan Tsvangirai House. There were allegations that the party was not paying electricity bills and tampering with electricity meters at its headquarters.
Mwonzora emphasised that the MDC is a law-abiding and professional party that would never allow its offices to be involved in criminal activities. He said:

Yesterday, acting on a false and malicious “tip off,” ZRP and ZESA officials visited our headquarters, demanding to carry out certain investigations. We agreed, and they did their work. Nothing amis was found at our headquarters all.

Police, ZESA "Found Nothing" After Pouncing On Morgan Tsvangirai House Over "Tampering With Metres"

Police are investigating a case in which a Chinese military contractor lost $1 million in cash that she had kept at her home in Borrowdale Brooke.
The woman, Li Fang, had locked her room before leaving for Zvishavane, but upon her return, she found the bag open and the money gone. Another $3,000 from a second bag was also missing, ZimLive reported citing an internal police memo of the incident. Chinese Military Contractor Loses US$1 Million Cash To Thieves In Harare

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a road accident that took place on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, near Marondera. The accident involved a Mazda BT50 vehicle that veered off the road, hitting a pedestrian, and then overturning, resulting in the death of a passenger. The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 08/11/23 at 1230 hours at the 24-kilometre peg along North Road near Summerset area, Marondera where two people were killed whilst six others were injured.
Mazda BT50 vehicle veered off the road and hit a pedestrian before overturning resulting in a passenger being killed. The bodies were taken to Marondera General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

Vehicle Veers Off The Road, Hits A Pedestrian, Overturns Killing A Passenger

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has made progress in solving multiple robbery cases following the arrest of a 21-year-old man at the Beitbridge Border Post for possessing an illegal pistol. According to a police report seen by Pindula News, the suspect, Raymond Chatama, implicated his accomplice who was subsequently arrested in Harare.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, stated that Chatama was arrested during the “No to cross border crimes” operation in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beitbridge/">Beitbridge</a>. He was found in possession of a 0.22 Star pistol, a magazine with 19 live rounds, and a spent cartridge. He added:

Further investigations by CID Homicide, Harare linked the suspect to four cases of robbery which occurred between 22nd November 2022 and 26th December 2022 in Ruwa.
The suspect implicated Best Zuze (42) who was arrested on 02nd November 2023 at Zimbabwe Agricultural Showgrounds, Harare. The arrest led to the recovery of a 303 rifle, three pellet guns as well as 55-inch and 32-inch television sets.
The suspects are clearing a robbery case which occurred at a plot along Roseneath Road, Ruwa where a family was attacked before US$350.00 cash, two television sets, three cellphones a Toyota Hilux GD6 were stolen, as well as two robbery cases which occurred at two different supermarkets in Ruwa on 22nd November 2022 where US$1 511 and ZWL$10 000 were stolen.
The suspects are also linked to a robbery case where US$516.00 cash, Proda shocker, three reachable torches and a Nexus generator were stolen at Kumusha Resort and Gardens, Mayfair Lishen, Ruwa on 26th December 2022.

According to Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the ZRP is committed to fighting crime in the country. He assured the public that the police would not hesitate to track down criminal syndicates. He encouraged anyone with information about criminal activities to come forward and report it to the nearest police station so that the law can be enforced and justice be served.
