State-owned broadcaster, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), has lifted the “ban” on Winky D’s music on its radio stations.
The Zimdancehall chanter’s songs were banned from ZBC radio stations following the release of his album “Eureka Eureka.”
Released on January 1, 2023, the album angered Zimbabwe’s ruling establishment leading to the censorship of Winky D’s music.
One of the songs from the album, “Ibotso”, talks about corruption, mismanagement and abuse of public resources by a greedy elite few.
<a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/state-media-unfreeze-ban-on-winky-d-move-a-strategy-to-woo-audience/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> reported a source as saying the decision to lift the ban on Winky D’s music was influenced by the new leadership at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
However, some songs from Winky D’s “Eureka Eureka” album, such as “Ibotso” and “Dzimba dzemabwe,” remain banned. Said the source:

There is a new board which is bringing the new strategy. Of course, we will not play all of his songs but his coming back on the radio is a strategy by the new board. The old board took things more personally and was rigid.

ZANU PF youth leader Charles Munganasa, who was recently appointed acting ZBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is reportedly spearheading a new strategy at the state broadcaster.
Winky D’s newly released song, Love Quartet, has been receiving a fair share of airplay on local radio stations.
On 04 March 2023, police officers stormed the stage during Winky D’s live performance and shut down his show to intimidate him for his critical commentary.

State Media Unfreeze "Ban" On Winky D's Music

Faded Zimbabwean comedian Ray Vines, whose real name is Melusi Chiripowako, faced criticism after making derogatory comments about Solomon Harudzibwi’s albinism during a debate about Winky D’s music. Ray Vines claimed that Winky D hadn’t released any hit songs since 2013, which led Harudzibwi to respond by suggesting that Ray Vines was seeking favour from the ruling ZANU PF party. While Winky D has not released hit-after-hit lately, he has hit songs from his 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019 albums – Ray Vines was exaggerating.
Below are some of the posts on X that resulted in the exchange:
Ray Vines: Zvekugona music uyu akapedzesera muna 2013 pazouya chibaba (Soul Jah Love) akabva apera till now akuimba twumasong twekungobowa everytime. [Winky D last released good music in 2013. When Soul Jah Love came to the scene, he became extinct until now when he is releasing boring music.]
Harudzibwi then responded by saying: “Zanu PF won’t pick you. Rest, rather concentrate on your dry jokes. Budget ye Zanu yakatopera, try 2028,” suggesting that Ray Vines was attacking Winky D to attract favours from the ruling ZANU PF party that has in the past attacked Winky D accusing him of releasing political songs.
Ray Vines then replied with a comment mocking Harudzibwi’s albinism, which is highly insensitive and hurtful. He said:

Individuals with albinism have a heightened sensitivity to the sun and can suffer severe skin damage from sunburn. They are also at an increased risk of skin cancer, eye irritation, and heat-related illnesses.

Following RayVines’ post, there was a campaign to unfollow him due to his offensive remarks. However, he remained unapologetic and urged those attacking him to also criticise Harudzibwi for his previous insinuations. RayVines has been involved in controversies before, including mocking the late Robert Mugabe’s son and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/20/ray-vines-apologises-for-mocking-mugabes-son-chatunga/">subsequently issuing an apology in 2021.</a>
While some believe that Harudzibwi deserved criticism for attacking others, others point out the double standards and cyberbullying prevalent in Zimbabwe. They argue that individuals who are now criticising RayVines were previously engaged in cyberbullying other disabled people. They highlight a case where a man without arms, Elisha Gumbo, was bullied by Winky D’s fans for expressing his opinion about Holy Ten. Elisha Gumbo’s post that attracted cyberbullying read:

After people started attacking Ray Vines, Gumbo said:

Faded Zimbabwean Comedian Ray Vines Receives Backlash For Derogatory Comments About Harudzibwi's Albinism

Zimbabwean artist Winky D, known for his reggae-dancehall music, gave an outstanding performance at his Ghettocracy Score show in Harare on 31 December 2023. The event celebrated his successful career in the music industry, with his unique fusion of traditional Zimbabwean music and reggae/dancehall beats making him one of Zimbabwe’s greatest artists.
Winky D’s music has sparked international debate and mixed reactions since 2019, with even government officials giving their opinions. The release of his latest album, Ghettocracy Store, has ignited further controversy, with fans and critics discussing the political nature of his music.
Ceasar Zvayi, a former editor of “The Herald,” has warned Zimdancehall artist Winky D that he should expect to be treated like a politician instead of a musician. He wrote on X:

In response to Zvayi, Chofamba said artists should be allowed to freely express themselves and to speak truth to power. He said:

Chief, you’re just expressing the typical intolerance of the authoritarian Zanu-PF regime towards artists who would dare make any social commentary that’s unfavourable to it!
You stand on the side of power so you will never appreciate any artist who speaks truth to power. You only appreciate such artists when they’re foreign or when the powers they address are also foreign.
So let’s not pretend you come with any objective lens to critically appreciate Winky D’s music!

Zandatoto echoed similar sentiments, saying it’s wrong to try to gag musicians. He wrote:

Former Herald Editor Caesar Zvayi Threatens Winky D Over "Political" Lyrics

Award-winning Zimbabwe Dancehall artist Winky D, whose real name is Wallace Chirumiko put on a scintillating performance at his Ghettocracy show at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on 31 December 2023, reported <a href="https://x.com/NewsHawksLive/status/1741640106048360613?s=20">The NewsHawks</a>.
Winky D, considered by some to be the most popular Zimdancehall artist, drew a huge crowd at the show, with hundreds of revellers turned away after tickets sold out.
Titled “2 Decades of Excellence,” the event and several musicians who performed there as well as multitudes of fans celebrated Winky D’s career in the music industry, making him one of Zimbabwe’s veteran and greatest artists.
Winky D’s music is a fusion of traditional Zimbabwean music with reggae and dancehall beats.
His lyrics often contain political commentary, touching on social problems including injustice, poverty, and corruption.
Winky D’s song “Ibotso”, talks about corruption, mismanagement and abuse of public resources by a greedy elite few.
The song, off the album Eureka, has, however, angered authorities who have responded by not only issuing threats but also banning his music on some radio stations.

Ghettocracy Score: Winky D Unveils Supporting Acts

Fortune Chasi, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Mazowe South and former Energy and Power Development Minister, has defended the Zimbabwean dancehall artist, Winky D, who has been having a run-in with the authorities over his political and socially conscious music.
It is alleged that the ZANU PF government banned Winky D’s music on state-owned radio stations and the public broadcaster, ZBC. 
Chasi, who is known to be an admirer of Winky D’s music, said that those who don’t like the political connotations in Winky D’s music should simply not listen to it. Posting on Twitter, Chasi, a member of the ruling ZANU PF also added that musicians and writers should not be censored and that they should be allowed to create without interference. He further stated:

I took the time to listen to his music, I like his music but I have never met him (Winky D).
I also love poetry and literature, so when people start making these criticisms, I take the time to listen and ask myself if there is a problem.
A musician is a product of their material condition, they sing about what they interact with, where they come from in the ghetto — their troubles and tribulations.
To be honest, I was surprised at what the whole hullabaloo is about.
I don’t think musicians and writers should be interfered with in their freedoms to create. ljipita (Winky D’s song) once stirred controversy but for me Egypt (ljipita) represents a desirable state of affairs, a promised land.
I think sometimes we blow things out of the correct way that they should be moving and I am glad the deputy minister (Tino Machakaire) spoke about it.
I love Winky D’s music and I don’t think he has done anything wrong and let us not hinder people from creativity, I have sung songs myself and I wouldn’t want someone to come and tell me how I should sing.
Let people write and sing what they want, it’s their constitutional right, musical taste is not universal, let people sample what they want and if you don’t like someone’s music don’t listen to them.

In January, the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation, Tinoda Machakaire, criticised Winky D following the release of his album, Eureka Eureka in December, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/01/14/winky-ds-eureka-deputy-minister-makes-u-turn-says-let-us-not-fight-artists/">but later made a U-turn, urging Zimbabweans not to fight artists.</a> The album was viewed by some individuals and groups as politically-charged.
Machakaire, who is ZANU PF’s secretary for youth affairs, called for a tone down of criticism against Winky D and urged Zimbabweans to respect artistes’ constitutional rights and opinions. Machakaire also highlighted the importance of finding solutions to the problems facing the country, rather than fighting each other. 
One of the controversial songs on Winky D’s Eureka Eureka album is “Ibotso,” which portrays Zimbabwe as a society in decay, where corruption and poverty have devastated young people in ghetto communities. The song criticises those who choose to ignore these harsh realities, while Winky D exposes the ugly underbelly of a society that hides behind a facade of self-denial. The lyrics suggest that Zimbabweans are living in a prolonged nightmare, and that delusion and deceit are prevalent. Through “Ibotso,” Winky D highlights the plight of Zimbabwean youths and calls for action to address the country’s social and economic challenges.

Former Energy Minister Chasi Defends Winky D's Music Against Authorities' Opposition

In a Facebook post seen by Pindula News, Nash Paints CEO, Tinashe Mutarisi, has called on Zimbabweans to support both Jah Prayzah and Winky D as they make an impact on the global music scene. Mutarisi emphasized that the two artists represent Zimbabwe, and their success would benefit the entire country. He urged fans not to discredit one artist in favour of the other and to remember that they are in competition but also colleagues.
Mutarisi acknowledged the exceptional launch of Winky D’s album and Jah Prayzah’s remarkable evolution as an artist with numerous international awards. He suggested that if Jah Prayzah were to join the league of global stars such as Drake, Burna Boy, and Ed Sheeran, the world would begin to look for Zimbabwe’s Davidos in music, and the entire country would advance.

Nash Paints CEO Tinashe Mutarisi Urges Support For Jah Prayzah And Winky D

Zimbabwean artiste Winky D has won the Best African Dancehall Entertainer award at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) held at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
IRAWMA, which was running under the theme “Reggae Rise”, recognised dancehall music and its contribution to the evolution of Jamaican music over the last fifty years.
The 40th IRAWMA edition held in the North American country received 135 nominees vying for honours in 32 categories.
Winky D, born Wallace Chirumiko, was crowned the Best African Dancehall artiste despite competing against the likes of Patoranking, Star Zee, and Shatta Wale. <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/winky-d-scoops-best-african-dancehall-entertainer-award/">He said:</a>

Winky D Wins Best African Dancehall Entertainer Award

Zimdancehall chanter <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky D</a> is set to feature in a gig to draw the curtain on the 2023 Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo next week.
Winky D, whose real name is Wallace Chirumiko, will be the star of the show organised by Harris Hotel and 2 Kings Entertainment.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/winky-d-headlines-bulawayo-shutdown-gig/">ZimLive</a> reported that the sixth edition of the Bulawayo shutdown is set for 29 April at The Boundary at Queens Sports Club.
Winky D will perform alongside South African artistes DJ Stokie and Lady Du.
The show will be the first public performance for Winky D since February this year when police disrupted his show in Damview, Chitungwiza.
Other local artistes lined up for the gig include Jah Signal, Levels, Fantan, Noreen Moria, Boss Pumacool, Bazooker and Sandra Ndebele.

Winky D To Perform At The Bulawayo Shutdown Gig On 29 April

Dzivaresekwa legislator Edwin Mushoriwa (MDC Alliance), has demanded that Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe should appear before Parliament to explain why the Police disrupted Zimdancehall musician Winky’s performance at a show in Chitungwiza on Saturday.
Police officers, some in plain clothes, stormed Winky D’s performance in Chitungwiza and dragged him off the stage moments after he performed his politically-charged song, Ibotso.
Mushoriwa raised the issue in the National Assembly as a matter of national interest on Wednesday. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200008522/kazembe-faces-parly-grilling-over-winky-d-show-cancellation">NewsDay</a> quoted him as saying:

A few days ago, one of our popular musicians (Winky D) ‘s show was disrupted by the police. Few hours after that the show of another musician Baba Harare was stopped.
Musicians are the core of the arts industry and they give entertainment to all of us. I am, therefore, requesting that the Home Affairs minister should come before this august House with a ministerial statement to explain whether there are now limitations or that musicians should no longer perform.
The provisions of MOPA (Maintenance of Peace and Order Act) do not require such interference that we are seeing.
The honourable minister should come before us and explain the position.

MPs Request Kazembe Ministerial Statement On Disrupted Winky D, Baba Harare Show

Winky D was sharing the stage with several other musicians including Saintflowmusic and Tocky Vibes.
The 40-year-old’s recent songs reflect Zimbabweans’ daily struggles including poverty, corruption and unemployment.
His songs have created enmity between himself and authorities in Harare who believe he is a mercenary sent to champion the regime change agenda through music.

Hip hop artist Holy Ten continues to make controversial remarks about Winky D, after telling a fan that he is going to prove the Dancehall star is not God.
Holy Ten has been on Winky D’s case ever since the two collaborated for the hit “Ibotso” off the latter’s latest album Eureka Eureka.

Responding to one fan questioning his stance towards Winky D on Twitter today, Holy Ten said he wants to prove that the Kambuzuma-raised chanter isn’t God. He said:

Award-winning music producer Shelton ‘Sunshine’ Masiwa says <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimdancehall">ZimDancehall </a>is declining and will be overtaken by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zim_Hip_Hop">Zim Hip hop </a>as the most popular genre if certain things are not done right.
Masiwa, who owns <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sunshine_Studios">Sunshine Studios </a>and has over the years produced songs for artists such as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky_D, </a><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman">Freeman,</a> <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Seh_Calaz">Seh Calaz</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kinnah">Kinnah</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Qounfuzed">Qounfuzed </a>under his stable, believes unnecessary competition between producers as well as rushed projects, can better explain ZimDancehall’s decline, and the resurgence of HipHop.

He said: “ZimDanchell, as a genre, is declining. It is declining because we no longer take our time in producing music with good quality. You can have a situation whereby production of a song starts today and by tomorrow, it will be out.
“A whole album cannot be produced and released within a week, of which that is no ideal as far as our industry is concerned.
“The other problem is that as producers, we are involving ourselves in unnecessary competition. What we only care about is fame, we produce substandard staff and release quickly just to ‘beat’ the other producer and that is not good for ZimDancehall, as a movement.

Masiwa believes producers now prioritizes fame and that limits the growth of ZimDancehall.

“The reason why Winky D remains relevant despite ZimDancehall being on a downward spiral is because he takes his time to produce music, he is not pressured by anyone to release it.
“Hip hop is back and can eclipse ZimDancehall because they (Hip hop artists and producers) take their time in making music and it will be sounding good.
“As ZimDancehall stakeholders, if we don’t swallow our pride and accept criticism as far as releasing rushed projects with the literally the same melody over and over is concerned, we will kill our industry and Hip hop will easily take over.
“The impact of HipHop is there for all to see, everyone knows about <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Holy_Ten">Holy Ten</a> and the likes of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Saintfloew">Saintfloew. </a>They started the same way we started, people initially ignored our music but later got used to it and started liking it and it can be the same with Hip hop.

We Will Be Overtaken By Hip Hop If We Don’t Reform, Says Zim Dancehall Producer Sunshine

Zimdancehall musician <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky D</a>, whose real name is Wallace Chirumiko, has faced a lot of criticism in recent days following the release of his album, Eureka, on which several artistes featured.
Winky D’s critics include self-styled prophet and ZANU PF sympathiser Passion Java, Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) president Mike Chimombe, music producer and promoter DJ Fantan, and Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister, Tinoda Machakaire, among others.
They all accused Winky D of dabbling in politics and attacking the government, with DJ Fantan going as far as claiming that the musician was paid to criticise the government.
Holy Ten, who featured on “Ibotso”, one of the tracks on the album, said he regretted collaborating with Winky D, saying the song had been politicised.
However, Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa (Independent) said there is nothing wrong with Winky D bringing up pertinent issues which are plaguing the country.
Mliswa argued that “Winky D never insulted, attacked, or cursed anyone”, adding “the thematic content on Eureka Eureka is the same since way back for Winky D” as he “has produced many songs before with similar content.”

LIST: Winky D's Songs About Leadership Failure

Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa (Independent) has criticised Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Deputy Minister, Tinoda Machakaire for claiming that Winky D’s latest album, Eureka, is causing “chaos” in the country.
Machakaire said the Zimdancehall chanter should desist from attacking the government and instead, use the right structures to air his grievances.
According to journalist Brezhnev Malaba, one of Winky D’s tracks on the album “Ibotso” portrays Zimbabwe as a crime scene, a long-decayed society in which the residents naively hope things will miraculously change for the better.
Responding to Machakaire’s utterances, Mliswa said there is nothing wrong with Winky D bringing up pertinent issues which are plaguing this country. He said:

The truth of the matter is that Winky D never insulted, attacked, or cursed anyone. He has created no chaos.
He simply brought up pertinent issues which are plaguing this country as everyone knows. His model and platforms are very much on point as a musician.

He is an artist. Moda ayimbe zvemadrugs nerudo zvega here? This is a form of fascist censorship you are now advancing.
His way of addressing and raising them, through music, is adequate and correct all the way.
Those singers, activists and politicians who have rushed to report incorrectly about him are the most dangerous people because they exhibit a gross lack of mental acumen.
Instead of interrogating issues candidly and analytically they see issues in a binary manner where critical analysis or simply stating the truth is an insult.

Musicians who collaborated with Winky D on Eureka include the aforementioned Nutty O, Exq, Killer T, Dr Chaii, Tocky Vibes, Enzo Ishall and Holy Ten, among others.
Posting on Facebook, Winky D also thanked his fans who embraced the album. He wrote:

Winky D Hails Fans For "Connecting" With Eureka

Zimdancehall artiste, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ricky_Fire">Ricky Fire</a>, whose real name is Tulani Takavada, has accused music producer and promoter <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/DJ_Fantan">DJ Fantan</a> of hypocrisy.
This comes after the Chillspot Records co-proprietor claimed that Winky D “used” young musicians whom he mentored on his latest album to propagate a political message before dumping them.
Posting on his Facebook page, Ricky Fire said DJ Fantan does not have the moral authority to claim that Winky D dragged young musicians into politics saying it was indeed the music producer who made young artistes sing at political events, presumably ZANU PF political rallies. Said Ricky Fire:

DJ Fantan Accuses Winky D Of Ruining Young Artistes' Careers For Personal Gain

Controversial social media personality <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Night_Shadaya_Tawona">Night Shadaya Tawona</a> has castigated Star FM radio presenter <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/DJ_Ollah_7">DJ Ollah 7</a> real name Owen Madondo for his alleged fascination with scandals.
Shadaya claimed that DJ Ollah invites “dubious celebs” only on his After Drive show.
He suggested that the After Drive show thrives on scandals and challenged the radio presenter to invite reputable characters to the show such as musician Winky D. Tweeted Shadaya:

DJ Ollah 7 Challenged To Host Winky D On After Drive Show

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has refuted reports claiming that it has banned Winky D’s latest album titled Eureka from being played on its platforms.
The album is considered by some commentators to be critical of the government.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 04 January 2023, the public broadcaster said:

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has noted with concern unfounded messages circulating on various social media platforms alleging that there has been a ban on Winky D’s songs on the ZBC platforms.
ZBC is a public broadcaster and is guided by the philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.
It should be categorically stated that we do not discriminate against any music artists.

The Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet George Charamba said that musician Holy Ten, whose real name is Mukudzei Chitsama, has been forgiven after he apologised for allegedly criticising the government.
This comes after <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Holy_Ten">Holy Ten</a> said he was regretting working with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky D</a> in <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/eureka-zimbabwe-is-a-crime-scene-brezh-malabas-analysis-of-winky-ds-ibotsho/">Ibotso</a>, a song which is on Winky’s latest album titled Eureka.
The musician claimed the song had been sensationalised by commentators, mainly journalists. In a Twitter post, Holy Ten said:

Brezhnev Malaba, a prominent journalist, in <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/eureka-zimbabwe-is-a-crime-scene-brezh-malabas-analysis-of-winky-ds-ibotsho/">his analysis of the song</a>, said Zimbabwe is a crime scene. He said:

"You Are Wholly Forgiven", Mnangagwa Spokesperson Tells Holy Ten

Youth, Sports, and Recreation minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kirsty_Coventry">Kirsty Coventry</a> has been criticised for her silence when some groupings are urging authorities to ban <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky D</a> from performing in Zimbabwe for allegedly dabbling in politics.
Winky D, born Wallace Chirimuko, is under fire from some individuals and groups including the Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) over his song Ibotso he collaborated with Holy Ten.
The song describes Zimbabwe as a crime scene where the “powerful people” loot resources meant to benefit the common man leaving them in abject poverty. 
Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a>, has said Coventry, an Olympiques gold medalist, has failed in her role as a minister. 
Her remarks came after the EEG, a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwean" title="Zimbabwean">Zimbabwean</a> empowerment lobby group founded by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mike_Chimombe" title="Mike Chimombe">Mike Chimombe</a> after he was relieved of his post as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Affirmative_Action_Group" title="Affirmative Action Group">Affirmative Action Group</a> (AAG) president, had urged the government to ban Winky D from performing in Zimbabwe. In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Mahere said:

Some believe Passion Java, who recently released his own album, and Mudiwa Hood could be richer than Buffalo Souljah.

Winky D Petitioned To Release An Album For Summer

Zimdancehall chanter, Winky D born Wallace Chirimuko has been nominated for Africa’s 2021 Accountability Music Awards which celebrates artists who speak against corruption through music.
In the nominees’ list released recently Winky D’s track ‘Njema’ was nominated alongside Nigeria’s Femi Kuti ‘pa pa pa’, Kenya’s King Kaka ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’, Tanzanian Ney Wa Mitego ‘Raisi Wa Kitaa’ and Nigerian Angelique Kidgo and Yemi Alade ‘Dignity’.
The final nominees’ list was picked from over 200 nominations submitted across the African continent.
The awards ceremony is organised by ONE, Accountability labs, and Trace Africa.
The official winner of the prestigious award will be announced on December 9 as the world commemorates International Anti-Corruption Day.
Winky D’s 2019 song, Njema, a title that translates to handcuffs, reflects the frustrations of young Africans, spread messages of inspiration and calls for change.
Accountability Music Award organisers said Njema “talks about how the citizens of Zimbabwe have been handcuffed by corruption, encourages people to free themselves from scenarios that will delay progress.”
Voting is now open on www.accountabilitymusicawards.org and closes on November 30.
The Accountability Music Awards are designed to recognise African musicians and artists fighting corruption using music to spotlight the negative impacts that corruption and a lack of transparent and accountable government institutions have on countries.
In 2019, Nigerian musician, Cill born Chioma Ogbonna won the Accountability Awards for her song “All You’ve Got” which urged citizens to take an active role in pushing for social and political reforms.
