The 81-year-old man from Tsholotsho who spent the past 61 years in South Africa before returning home will be taken to an old people’s home after his relatives showed a lack of interest in accepting him, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/gone-for-61-years-moyo-to-be-taken-to-old-peoples-home/">Chronicle</a>.
Philip Moyo, who is now physically unwell and suffering from malnutrition, left his home in Nemane Tsholotsho for South Africa before Ian Smith’s far-right political party, the Rhodesian Front, unilaterally declared independence.
He is yet to find relatives willing to take him in when he is discharged from Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.
Moyo has spent the past five weeks at the hospital and is now awaiting discharge.
A woman who is aged 60 years and claims to be his daughter, recently visited the hospital and later disappeared.
The woman has not been seen after reuniting with her father whom she never saw or communicated with since she was born.
Moyo said he had a family in South Africa including four children who did not want to be part of his life anymore.
The octagenarian said he left Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), without a passport as they were not required then and started a family with his wife who is from Botswana.
He also had a child in Rhodesia but he cannot remember the name of his girlfriend or the child.
Mpilo public relations officer Matron Norma Mabhena said the hospital will ensure that Moyo goes to an old people’s home since his relatives have failed to accept him. She said:

We are working with social workers to take him to an old people’s home and so far we have several promises.
His relatives haven’t come and his daughter came once and then cut off all communication with us.
The civic leaders have also tried to get the family members to communicate with Moyo without any luck and we are now working on taking him to a home.

During his initial interview with State media, Moyo said that he only remembers that his father was Sibambosobunyonyo and his mother was MaDawu and that his home was near Nemane Primary School in Tsholotsho in an area called Mandeya.
Civic leaders including Chief Gampu visited him in the hospital.
Millions of Zimbabweans have migrated to South Africa over the past several decades, with some settling there permanently.
Moyo’s predicament highlights the need for emigrants to keep in touch with their relatives back home so that they will have a place to go in case they are forced to leave their adopted country.

Tsholotsho Man Who Spent 61 Years In SA To Be Taken To Old People’s Home

An 81-year-old man from Tsholotsho District who returned to Zimbabwe from South Africa for the first time since 1962, may have located his daughter whom he left while she was in Grade One, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/has-the-gone-for-60-years-man-really-found-his-relatives-daughter-shows-up/">Chronicle</a>.
Last week, Phillip Moyo pleaded for assistance, through the media, to be assisted in finding his family members whom he hardly remembers as he left the country way before the onset of the Second Chimurenga which ushered in the country’s independence.
The name of his then-girlfriend and the mother of his child had faded from his memory.
Speaking to The Sunday News at Mpilo Central Hospital where he is admitted, Moyo, although incoherent in some of his statements, said he is from Tsholotsho District and has had a visitor who claims to be his daughter. He said:
<blockquote>
They came and went (visitors). Mina angisabakhumbuli kodwa bona bayangikhumbula (I do not remember them, but they remember me). I am very happy that I found someone who knows me, living like a criminal is not good.
</blockquote>
A woman is said to have visited Moyo on Saturday, 30 December, claiming to be his daughter.
The woman is said to have had a conversation with Moyo where they both remembered one common person, however, she said she would bring in more relatives.
Contacted for verification by the Chronicle, the woman whose mobile number is registered under the name Sikhonzile Moyo, said she was his daughter. She said:

I am his child, but now I am on my way back home to the farms, I will be back to see him again. I will contact you when I get home and we talk.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Moyo said he regrets his “selfish move” to South Africa that forced him to abandon his family, friends, and relatives. He said:
<blockquote>
When we enjoy life we must not forget others, the things that we men do are not good, and we must stop this behaviour (of abandoning families).
Look at me now (touching his frail and aged body). It is so hard, people must not go for good.

Alderman Phineas Ndlovu, a former Bulawayo councillor who hails from Tsholotsho, visited Moyo at Mpilo Central Hospital. He said:
<blockquote>
With the way he described himself, I realised I knew his father and the area he was talking about, which is our home area in Nemane.
So, I asked him where exactly he was born and he said in Nemane and he is the son of Saka, usaMajahaqatha. Saka is a Sibanda, I know Saka, although I have forgotten his real name.
I told him of the Tshavani people, he is a brother to Saka and my sister is married to the Tshabani people.
When I enquired, I heard those people were no longer there, where would Khulu go? I am, however, told he has a child who was in Kwekwe who came this morning (Saturday).
They spoke and she is said to have agreed that the information said is fairly correct regarding Khulu and her mother. However, she said she could not prove that he was indeed her father.

Ald Ndlovu described the setting of the homesteads of Namane in Tsholotsho where he and Moyo come from. He said:
<blockquote>
I know this man’s family, our elders lived together, Saka saMajahaqatha homestead was there, followed by Khakha’s, Mlobiseni, Duli, Tholo, Ndayile, ours, the Dima’s was on one end.
There is also Nemane School close by, so we know each other well. Khulu may not know me because he says he has been gone 61 years in Johannesburg, he put it right, when we grew up there was a trek to Johannesburg where he had gone.
I am 73 years old now, he is older than me, at 81. But his father Saka, angimbuzi emuntwini ngiyamazi, lakhathesi ungathi ngiyekutshengisa umuzi kaSaka ngingayakutshengisa ukuthi wawu la.
I heard there is a young sister of Khulu Moyo who is married and may not be in a position to take him in. He needs to be bathed, clothed and cared for, who will do that?
Unless someone is touched by the Holy Spirit, then he can find a place to stay. He is now Government property.
</blockquote>
Ald Ndlovu said following some consultations, he is trying to contact Headman Ngwizi back in Tsholotsho as he understands they are somewhat related to Moyo and wants him to find any information from that end and assist.
Moyo said he was grateful for the help he had received so far. He was adamant he would not return to South Africa but visit Tsholotsho to check on others.

Back To Zimbabwe After 60 Years Tsholotsho Man Reunited With "Daughter"

Philip Moyo, an 81-year-old man from Tsholotsho, recently made returned to Zimbabwe after leaving for South Africa in 1960 and never coming back until now. Moyo, now recovering from malnutrition at Mpilo Central Hospital, claims that he cannot remember much about his life away from home. However, he does recall that Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, used to have a larger population of white people than it does now.
Moyo left his home in Nemane Tsholotsho before Zimbabwe gained its independence and started a family with his wife, who hails from Botswana. He told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/the-mystery-man-who-disappeared-for-61-years/">The Herald</a> that he had a child in Rhodesia, but unfortunately, he cannot remember the name of his girlfriend or the child. His belongings, displayed during the interview, consisted of a black coat, two worn-out wallets containing a few rand and pula coins, and a pair of sunglasses. 
Moyo said his decision to return to Zimbabwe was driven by the desire to visit his surviving relatives in Mpopoma, following the death of his sister. During his time in South Africa, Moyo worked as a domestic worker. He said:
<blockquote>
I was cooking, cleaning and doing menial jobs the whole time and I would get news about my family from people I met in South Africa. I just did not have their phone numbers, but I am aware that many have died including my parents although I know I have a few relatives who can visit me so that at least I reunite with my family.
I have been told that I am in Bulawayo but this place doesn’t look like it, it used to have lots of white people back in Rhodesia and I cannot remember what my home looks like. I never abandoned my family, it was just that I left when I was young and thought I would get established, which also failed.
I need to meet my relatives; I do not have any sort of identification document but phone numbers of my relatives whom I was last in contact with.
Nurses told me they picked me up from Mpopoma and I know that one of my nephews resides there who is alive and he was the one who was supposed to host me while attending my sister’s funeral wake.
</blockquote>
Moyo’s memory has faded over time, and he cannot recall much about his family in Zimbabwe. He only remembers that his father’s name was Sibambosobunyonyo, his mother’s name was Madawu, and his home was near Nemane Primary School in Tsholotsho, in an area called Mandeya.
Sister Norma Mabhena, the public relations officer of Mpilo Central Hospital, said Moyo’s condition has improved compared to three weeks ago when he arrived at the hospital. He spent a week in the casualty ward before being admitted due to his declining health. Mabhena said they are now appealing to the public for any information that could help locate Moyo’s family. Anyone with information about Moyo’s family can contact the hospital at (0292) 214367.

Tsholotsho Man Who Left Home Before Independence Returns

Tsholotsho villagers say a mysterious disease has left about a dozen schoolchildren unable to walk.
The villagers suspect the children are being attacked by goblins (alleged supernatural beings thought to be malevolent to people.)
According to a <a href="https://www.bmetro.co.zw/goblins-immobilise-pupils/">B-Metro report</a>, the attacks have been happening since March this year and the affected children are from Magama Mission Primary School which is located in Ward 13 of Tsholotsho District in Matabeleland North province.
Ntulani village head Vincent Hadebe said the victims of the attacks are between the ages of five and 15 years. He said:
<blockquote>
There are about 12 children who are affected by this condition and what happens is that when it starts, the children convulse as if they are being choked by unknown creatures. This makes them feel weak and unable to walk.
These attacks mostly happen when the children are on their way to school or coming back home. We suspect that these goblins that attack the children are located someplace along the way to school because the affected children are all day scholars.
This started in March and this condition affects children between the ages of five and 15 years. The children are scared of going to school and some of our intelligent children failed to write their end-of-term examinations due to this problem.
At first, we were taking the victims to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo for treatment but all our efforts were in vain as none of them barely recovered.
We then sought permission from our traditional leaders to invite traditional healers for assistance.

Traditional healers who visited the area to get rid of the problem claimed to have recovered strange creatures that include snakes, monitor lizards, human waste, a baboon and three monkeys from a number of homesteads.
Hadebe said that there are eight victims who are currently recovering. He added that the learners have started going back to school while four of them are still affected.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education communication and advocacy director Taungana Ndoro said:
<blockquote>
We have not received any information regarding the case in that particular school. However, we usually receive such cases and we use a multi-sectoral approach.
This is through engaging the traditional leaders and the head of the school to assess the situation as we do not have the expertise to deal with such matters.

Tsholotsho Villagers Attribute "Mysterious" Ailment Afflicting Learners To Goblins

A 14-year-old boy who raped and impregnated a nine-year-old Tsholotsho girl has been slapped with a three-year wholly suspended sentence, <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/pregnant-9-year-old-boy-14-slapped-with-3-year-suspended-sentence/">reported the Chronicle</a>.
The teenager, whose name is withheld, is from Masekesa Line in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North Province.
He appeared for full trial before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Joseph Mabeza on Friday and pleaded guilty.
The teenager was represented by his lawyers Task Vhiki and Mary Nyika of Macharaga Law Chambers.
In mitigation, the 14-year-old’s lawyers said he has already endured enough punishment since his childhood has been taken away by becoming a father at a tender age.
The lawyers also argued that since he has become a father at his age, that has affected him at school and tainted his reputation in the community.
In arriving at the sentence the magistrate considered that the teenage boy and the victim are cousins.
Mabeza also said after the pair engaged in sex, a child was born and at his age, the teenager has become a father.
The magistrate also ruled that the teenager cannot be thrown into jail where there are hardened criminals.
The court heard that the Tsholotsho girl, who made national headlines last year after it was discovered that she was seven months pregnant, and the boy are cousins.
At a date not known to the prosecutor but sometime in February 2022, the minor and her two sisters who were aged eight and 14 at the time visited their relative and spent a night there.
The minor who was doing Grade Three slept with her sisters in the kitchen and the teenage boy also slept in the kitchen but alone.
Prosecutors said that during the night the boy woke up and sneaked into the minor’s blankets and raped her.
The minor, however, did not reveal to anyone that she was raped by her cousin.
The matter came to light after her mother got suspicious after seeing her stomach bulging and took her to Tsholotsho District Hospital for a pregnancy test.
The girl tested positive and after examining her, it was discovered that she was seven months pregnant.
The mother then reported the incident to the police but failed to disclose to the Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) police officer the suspect who could have impregnated her daughter.
The minor was taken to the Department of Social Welfare where she received counselling and was placed at Sanders Johns Centre for safety.
The girl gave birth on 14 November 2022. A police officer interviewed her and she revealed that she was raped by her 14-year-old cousin.
DNA tests were done and confirmed that her 14-year-old cousin had indeed impregnated her leading to his arrest.

Teenager Who Impregnated Tsholotsho Girl (9) Slapped With 3-year Suspended Sentence

The government has given <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tsholotsho">Tsholotsho</a> in Matabeleland North Province town status and has started development projects in accordance with this decision. Tsholotsho Centre is bustling with activity, with many businesses owned by the diaspora community opening their doors. The government believes that with full utility services in place, Tsholotsho deserves its new town status. Esau Siwela the chairperson of Tsholotsho Rural District Council said:
<blockquote>
The town board status is confirmation of our long-held conviction. We know this will create opportunities for us to grow and to see all service delivery taken to a higher level… We are excited by this government stance.
</blockquote>
Tsholotsho has a large diaspora community that is enthusiastic about investing in the area’s growth. According to one diaspora development partner, Tsholotsho is poised for growth and has great potential. Another partner believes that this growth will bring many new business opportunities and take Tsholotsho to the next level.
In Zimbabwe, a place is accorded town status by the government through a process that involves meeting certain criteria. The requirements include:
1). Population: A town must have a population of at least 10,000 people.
2). Infrastructure: The area must have sufficient infrastructure, including roads, water, sanitation, and electricity.
3). Economic activity: The town should have a diverse range of economic activities, including agriculture, commerce, and industry.
4). Social services: The area must have access to essential social services such as healthcare, education, and recreational facilities.
5). Governance: The town must have a functioning local government structure with a town council and a town clerk.
If an area meets these criteria and is deemed suitable for town status, the government can grant it the status and start implementing development projects to improve the area’s infrastructure, economy, and social services.

Tsholotsho Given Town Status

Police have arrested three learners from Mathula High School in Tsholotsho District after they were filmed assaulting a female learner.
The suspects aged 16 and 17, reportedly assaulted the victim after she had turned down a love proposal from one of the learners.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development to CITE’s <a href="https://cite.org.zw/three-tsholotsho-learners-arrested-after-video-of-brutal-beating-goes-viral/">Senzeni Ncube</a>. He said:
<blockquote>
That case has been received by the police and we have located the complainant and the witnesses. We have arrested three suspects so far.
One suspect is aged 17 and the other two suspects are aged 16.
</blockquote>
It is alleged that after his love proposal was turned down, the 17-year-old suspect and his colleagues waylaid the complainant on her way home and then assaulted her.
One of the learners recorded the incident which showed one of the suspects brandishing a machete, which police consider a dangerous weapon and should not be carried in public. Added Asst Comm Nyathi:

I confirm the police have taken action and we want to warn students against this behavior, against engaging in acts of bullying, against engaging in acts of criminality whilst at school and also urge parents to ensure that children behave well and they grow up being responsible citizens.

Police Arrest Three Tsholotsho Learners After Video Of Brutal Assault Goes Viral

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> has been called to catch students who bullied a schoolgirl in a video circulating on social media.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zenzele_Ndebele">Zenzele Ndebele</a>, a Bulawayo-based journalist and human rights activist, said the bullying allegedly happened at Mathula Secondary school in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tsholotsho">Tsholotsho</a>.
The founder of Centre For Innovation &amp; Technology (CITE) posted the video on Twitter and captioned it:

In the video, about four male students are seen caning the unidentified schoolgirl with belts and switches (tree branches) while another girl, who could be the one recording, is heard laughing.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Raymond_Majongwe">Raymond Majongwe</a>, the Secretary-General of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Progressive_Teachers_Union_of_Zimbabwe" title="Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe">Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe</a> (PTUZ), said the students who bullied the schoolgirl need to be held to account. He commented on the video:

This comes barely a fortnight after a Form Four student at Founders High School in Bulawayo <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/form-4-student-stabbed-in-gang-related-violence/">died after being stabbed</a> by a pupil from Hamilton High School in gang-related violence.
The deceased, Wayne Ndlovu, allegedly confronted his attacker questioning him why he had beaten up his friend. This resulted in a fight between pupils from Founders High School and those from Hamilton High School.

WATCH: Police Called To Catch Students Who Bullied Schoolgirl

The father of the 9-year-old Tsholotsho girl who recently gave birth at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), has been released from prison.
The 29-year-old was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-doesnt-know-shes-pregnant-father-arrested/">arrested on 29 August 2022</a> when it was discovered that his daughter was pregnant.
He was accused of raping and impregnating her after she allegedly told social workers that her father told her that “goblins will visit her at night and insert something in her private parts.”
He has been languishing in remand prison since his arrest.
However, DNA tests conducted by the National University of Science and Technology revealed on 25 November <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/dna-test-show-that-father-of-9-year-old-girl-is-not-responsible-for-the-pregnancy/">that he was not the father.</a>
The results said the girl’s 13-year-old cousin had impregnated her.
The father wept in the dock after Prosecutor Mr Acumen Khuphe <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/magistrate-frees-father-of-9-year-old-tsholotsho-girl/">announced that he was a free man.</a> He said:

The state has decided to set you free since the DNA results have proven that you are not the father of your daughter’s child.
</blockquote>
In his ruling, Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira said the court has no reason to hold him as the recent DNA results from NUST exonerated him.

Father Of 9-year-old Tsholotsho Girl Has Been Released From Prison

Nkanyiso Primary School head has been arrested in connection with the theft of school property including cement and porridge.
A police report seen by Pindula News says the headmistress, Bellah Moyo, was arrested by Tsholotsho police. Reads the statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP):

Police in Tsholotsho have arrested Kelvin Ncube (26) and Bellah Moyo (58) in connection with a case of theft which occurred between August and 29 November 2022 at Nkanyiso Primary School, where 40 reams of bond paper, 23 X 50kg cement and 20 X 50 kg porridge were stolen.
On 17/12/22, Police arrested Kelvin Ncube after receiving information that he was linked to the case. Kevin Moyo implicated the headmistress of the school, Bellah Moyo, leading to her arrest on 20/12/22.
</blockquote>
In October this year, another school head, Calister Tarisai Matsitsiro (58) was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/headmistress-in-court-for-theft-of-school-property/">arrested for allegedly stealing</a> the Rugare Primary School’s timber and asbestos sheets.
Investigations established that she planned to use the asbestos and timber to build a fowl run at her residence.

School Head Arrested Over Theft Of School Porridge, Cement

The father of a 9-year-old Tsholotsho girl who got pregnant and later gave birth last month has finally been freed by the courts <a href="https://cite.org.zw/court-frees-father-of-9-year-old-tsholotsho-girl/">reported CITE</a>.
The girl from Masekesa Village under Chief Gampu was eight years old when she fell pregnant.
Her father was arrested for rape following allegations that he would tell the girl that there were some creatures (goblins) that entered through the window and slept with her.
The girl later gave birth to a baby girl via cesarean section at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where she was being attended to by specialists.
DNA tests conducted by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to ascertain the father of the newly-born baby showed that the father was not responsible for her daughter’s pregnancy.
Instead, DNA results proved that the minor was impregnated by her 13-year-old cousin.
In his ruling, Dzira said the court has no reason to hold him as the recent DNA results from NUST exonerated him. Said Dzira:

The state has decided to set you free since the DNA results from NUST have proven you innocent. The court hereby withdraws the charges laid against you.

Magistrate Frees Father Of 9-year-old Tsholotsho Girl

Binga North legislator, Prince Dubeko Sibanda (CCC), has queried the appointment of a chief for the San people in Tsholotsho who are already under chiefs Siphoso and Gampu’s jurisdictions.
Last month, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Christopher Dube as the substantive Chief Goledema of Tsholotsho following his selection by the san community last year.
Raising a point of national interest in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Sibanda queried how the decision to appoint Goledema was arrived at. He said:

Hon. Speaker, the national importance of this matter is that the San people for a long time are a group of people who have not really been recognised by the government of this country until of late.
The decision to have or to install a chieftainship for the group of people is important but however Hon. Speaker, there are issues that have to be looked into on that aspect of the decision of the government.
Firstly, did the government really consult the San people and then decided that they wanted a chief or it was an initiative of the government on its own?
The question therefore Hon. Speaker that we want to understand from the Minister of Local Government is; what is the motive driving the government to decide that they have to install a chief for the people of the San community?
Secondly Hon. Speaker, how is it going to be implemented? You have got the San people that are living under Chief Siphoso and the San people that are living under Chief Gampu.
What will be the jurisdiction of the chief that is appointed by the government for the San people?
How will that chief exercise their jurisdiction in the areas that are under the control of Chief Siphoso and also under the areas that are under Chief Gampu?
At the end of the day Hon. Speaker, like I did ask first, “what is the motive driving the government to decide that there should be a chief for the San people when the San people themselves do not feel like they want a chief?
Who identified the individual that the government wants to install as a Chief? Is it the San people themselves or is it a government initiative?
Hon. Speaker, I think if the Minister of Local Government can come and apprise the nation on those issues, we can answer a number of questions pertaining to that issue.

The grandmother of a <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/a-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-admitted-to-ubh/">9-year-old Tsholotsho girl</a> who recently <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/9-year-old-tsholotsho-girl-gives-birth-to-baby-girl/">gave birth</a> at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) has defended her detained son who was accused of raping and impregnating the girl – his daughter.
The 29-year-old was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-doesnt-know-shes-pregnant-father-arrested/">arrested on 29 August 2022</a> when it was discovered that the minor was pregnant.
The paternal grandmother of the girl said she was disturbed by accusations levelled against her son, saying as a family they had faced stigma within the community. <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/no-bad-blood-between-us-families-of-9-year-old-mum-13-year-old-dad/">The Sunday News</a> cites her as saying:

My son was accused of evil things and I wonder where people got it from. I am surprised that there is a goblin that is being talked about, where is all that coming from? We are worried that such reports are being made. Do you know that I could not go to the well to fetch water in the village because of the stigma? I never attended school meetings because of the accusations against my son, all eyes were on us in this village. I am happy the truth is finally out that he did not rape his child.

When we were told of the bulging stomach, we assumed she was just sick, nothing more, we encouraged the mother to take her to hospital to seek help. We were not very shocked initially when the stomach bulged because we had never imagined that a child could get pregnant. So, we actually assumed other things like witchcraft, fibroids and not pregnancy. We even prayed so much and she got prayers from other people trying to assist the ‘sick’ child. We all never imagined that she could be pregnant hence it was discovered too late at seven months and there was nothing we could do about it.

There were reports that the minor girl had told counsellors that her father had told her that goblins would come in through the window at night and rape her, sentiments that have since been dismissed by the family. 
Meanwhile, deoxyribonucleic acid tests (DNA) conducted last month confirmed that a 13-year-old boy impregnated his nine-year-old cousin.
The two families also belong to the same clan and they say there is no bad blood between the two families. 
The paternal grandmother of the girl said she hoped the minor would be separated from the newly-born child since she still needs to return to school. She added that the girl would be given the baby back when she is old enough to understand what happened.

Grandmother Of 9-year-old Girl Who Gave Birth Defends Her Detained Son

The director of Women and Law in Southern Africa, Fadzai Traquino, has said the 13-year-old boy who allegedly raped and impregnated his nine-year-old cousin in Tsholotsho should be assessed to determine his maturity and state of mind.
Police on Saturday said DNA tests confirmed that the Tsholotsho girl’s cousin was responsible for her pregnancy, exonerating the girl’s father who was initially accused of the offence.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/13-year-old-father-to-be-assessed">The Sunday Mail</a>, Traquino said while the law provides for the prosecution of boys under the age of 14 for sexual offences, the boy should first be assessed before police formally press charges. She said:

The Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act states that males from 12 years can be charged with rape. However, before the courts take that route, a number of issues have to be looked into.
Because of the age of the accused, the law allows for a divergent programme where a probation or social welfare officer, with the assistance of a doctor, will question and examine the accused to determine if it was rape or it was consensual intercourse.
The assessment will also determine the accused’s maturity and his state of mind. This will include if the accused, since he is also a minor, was being sexually abused himself or if he was not exposed to pornography. Only a social welfare report can determine the case forward.

In a statement issued on Saturday, 26 November,  Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

The nine-year-old complainant and the suspect will receive appropriate counselling from the Police’s Victim Friendly Unit (VFU).
The police is now working with other relevant arms of the Government to ensure that the due processes of the law are followed.

"13-year-old Father Should Be Assessed To Determine His Maturity"

The nine-year-old girl from Tsholotsho who recently gave birth was impregnated by her 13-year-old cousin, police have revealed.
In a statement this Saturday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations) Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the father of the child was identified after DNA tests were conducted. Said Asst Insp Nyathi:

Man Who Impregnated 9-year-old Tsholotsho Girl Finally Identified

A 17-year-old Form Three at Mpanedziba Secondary School in Tsholotsho has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl from the same school.
The suspect allegedly cornered his victim in one of the school classrooms after he found her searching for her textbook.
Acting Matabeleland North Province Community Relations and Liaison Officer Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma confirmed the arrest. He told <a href="https://vicfallslive.co.zw/tsholotsho-student-up-for-rape/">VicFallsLive</a>:

On the 19th day of November 2022 and at Mpanedziba Secondary school, the victim went into her form one classroom looking for her missing Ndebele textbook.
She found the suspect seated on top of a desk alone and she did not mind the presence of the suspect and continued with the search of her textbook.
During the process, the suspect stood up, grabbed the victim by her T-shirt, and dragged her into a classroom storeroom which was not locked and he then raped the victim once.
</blockquote>
Mahohoma said after committing the crime, the suspect fled from the scene.
The matter came to light when the victim narrated the sexual assault to the matron who then reported the matter to the police.
In another rape case, police in Lupane have launched a manhunt for Caspar Twala of Shabula Range under Chief Mabikwa who allegedly raped his eight-year-old daughter on Monday. Said Mahohoma:

On the 20th day of November 2022, the victim and her other two siblings were left in the custody of their biological father Caspar Twala by their grandmother.
It was during the absence of the grandmother when the suspect called the victim into his bedroom hut where he rapped her once.
</blockquote>
Twala allegedly used his hands to forcibly close her daughter’s mouth to prevent her from screaming. Added Mahohoma:

After the act, the suspect threatened to beat the victim if she discloses the act to anyone.
The victim did not take heed of the threats and narrated to her grandmother what happened to her upon her arrival back home.
The grandmother quickly took the victim to the police and lodged a police report before taking her for a medical examination.

Tsholotsho Girl (14) Raped By Fellow Student Inside Classroom

Another 9-year-old Zimbabwean girl has been admitted to the hospital reportedly six months pregnant.
The girl who is from Kambira Village in Bindura is currently admitted at Bindura District Hospital under the care of the Social Development Department.
The minor was allegedly sexually abused by two 17-year-old boys who have been arrested, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/breaking-news-another-9-year-old-girl-raped-pregnant-as-two-17-year-old-boys-are-arrested/">The Herald</a> reported.
Authorities said a statement will be released in due course.
This comes as the nine-year-old girl from Masekesa village in Tsholotsho under Chief Gampu <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/9-year-old-tsholotsho-girl-gives-birth-to-baby-girl/">gave birth on Monday 14 November 2022.</a>
She gave birth to a baby girl via a Caesarean section at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).
The two cases are just a fraction of unresolved cases of sexual exploitation.

Another 9-year-old Zimbabwean Girl 6 Months Pregnant

New details have emerged in the case of a<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-doesnt-know-shes-pregnant-father-arrested/"> pregnant nine-year-old girl</a> from Masekesa village in Tsholotsho under Chief Gampu amid indications that the family lived with a young male relative.
Chief Gampu has called for the interrogation of the young man emphasising that he was not accusing the man. 
The traditional leader said the young man left a few months ago allegedly to seek employment in Dogwe village, one of the villages in the district. <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/new-details-emerge-on-the-pregnant-tsholotsho-girl-mystery/">The Chronicle</a> quotes Chief Gampu as saying:

I am not at all saying the young man is responsible for what happened, neither am I saying the father did not but it is known that the family was living with a young relative who I believe is related to the girl’s mother and maybe the police may actually want to interview him as well, just like they did to the father.
</blockquote>
The traditional leader said society was expected to protect young, innocent children instead of exposing them to such heinous acts.
He said he was going to spearhead awareness campaigns in his area of jurisdiction and encouraged other traditional leaders to also embark on such programmes so as to encourage and inform people about concerns related to child abuse while encouraging them to speak out against such vices.
The young girl who was just eight years old when she fell pregnant, with suspicions that she was raped, is set to give birth through a cesarean delivery on November 17 at United Bulawayo Hospitals.
The incident led to the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-doesnt-know-shes-pregnant-father-arrested/">arrest of the girl’s biological father</a> (29) who allegedly warned his daughter that “goblins will visit her at night and insert something in her private parts.”

New Details Emerge on 9-year-old Pregnant Zimbabwean Girl

A Tsholotsho man reportedly committed suicide while in a police cell after being arrested for allegedly stabbing his 12-year-old cousin.
In a statement, seen by Pindula News, The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the man also stabbed his other cousin and left him seriously injured. Read a police report on the matter:

The ZRP is investigating cases of murder, attempted murder and suicide which occurred on 16/03/22 at Mlotheni line in Tsholotsho where a man (20) allegedly stabbed his two cousin brothers, aged 12 and 17, several times all over their bodies with a kitchen knife for unknown reasons. 
The young brother died on the spot while the other sustained serious injuries and was referred to Tsholotsho Hospital for treatment. The suspect was arrested and he committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope made from his clothes while in a police cell at ZRP Tsholotsho.

Man Commits Suicide In Police Cell

A six-year-old girl was burnt to death in a deserted hut in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North on Saturday.
The Chronicle reports that the incident happened in Bubude Line under Chief Gampu.
Matabeleland North Police Spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident. He said:
<blockquote>
We received a report about a child who died when a hut she was playing in caught fire.
</blockquote>
Insp Banda said the minor was left with two friends when her guardian was going to the clinic for vaccination.
He said the children went to a deserted homestead and started playing there.
Insp Banda said the six-year-old got into the deserted hut with a box of matches leaving her friends playing, she lit the dry grass which was on the ground and the whole kitchen caught fire. 
She got trapped as she could not escape. Added Inspector Banda:

When her friends saw this, they shouted for help but no one came to her rescue. The two friends ran back home to look for help and they found that her guardian was back. They then returned to save her but she was already dead.

Inspector Banda urged parents and guardians to monitor minors all the time to avoid loss of life.

Six-year-old Girl Burnt To Death In Deserted Hut

Tsholotsho North MP Zenzo Sibanda (ZANU PF) has died after contracting COVID-19.
According to Matabeleland North provincial minister and ZANU PF chairman Richard Moyo, Sibanda was admitted at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo and put on oxygen over the weekend after experiencing difficulties breathing. Said Moyo:

It is with great sadness that I can confirm we have lost Tsholotsho South MP Cde Zenzo Sibanda.
He was a hardworking and humble leader who was well-liked by his constituents.
</blockquote>
Sibanda was born in Insiza district. A traditional healer, he moved to Tsholotsho and settled.
Explaining how he won the constituency, Sibanda told journalists in 2018:
<blockquote>
There is no way I was going to lose this seat as I’m literally an undertaker of Tsholotsho South constituency.
I shoulder all the expenses for every family during a funeral wake in the constituency.
I provide the coffin and transport to those who have lost their loved ones wherever they are, even those staying in South Africa.
As long as one is born in Tsholotsho, I ensure they receive a decent burial.
There is no corpse that leaves the Tsholotsho mortuary in a scorch cart; I stopped all that.
This and many other social amenities programmes I have been running for years ensured I retain the seat.
</blockquote>
Sibanda first won the seat in 2013 and then again in 2018.

Tsholotsho South MP, Zenzo Sibanda, Succumbs To COVID-19

Tsholotsho Rural District Council (RDC) is setting up a Commission of Inquiry to look into possible embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The commission of inquiry will investigate how $360 000 that was meant for the construction of Tsholotsho Stadium went missing.
There was speculation the council chief executive officer Mr Themba Moyo would be suspended over the issue. The $360 000 was raised through the sale of 60 elephants, each going for $18 000, which were in 2013 donated by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate Change, then under Saviour Kasukuwere. Only 20 elephants were sold and the money is allegedly missing from council coffers.
The Chronicle reports an unspecified amount believed to be running into hundreds of thousands of dollars was allegedly transferred to Tsholotsho RDC from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) and has also gone missing. It is also alleged that there was rampant corruption regarding allocation of major tenders by the local authority.
