Colonel (Retired) Tshinga Dube, a member of the ZANU PF Politburo and former Cabinet Minister, has passed away at the age of 83.
His son, Vusa Dube, confirmed to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/tshinga-dube-dies/">Chronicle</a> that Dube died from kidney failure at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo on Thursday, October 3. He said:

I can confirm that my father Colonel (Retired) Tshinga Dube passed on today at 7.34 pm at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo following kidney failure.
Of course, he has been unwell for the past 10 years, but his death came as a shock to us as a family.
As a family, we are saddened by his death and we have lost a pillar of strength.

Colonel (Retired) Dube, a respected war veteran, was born on July 3, 1941, in Fort Usher, Matobo District, Matabeleland South. He became politically active at a young age, joining the liberation movement in the 1960s.
In 1972, he trained as a guerrilla fighter in the Soviet Union and China, becoming a prominent figure in the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) during the liberation struggle.
Dube advanced through the ranks, playing a crucial role in the arms procurement department for ZIPRA, where he facilitated the shipment of weapons from supportive nations during Zimbabwe’s fight against colonialism.
Known as Cde Embassy during the liberation struggle, he was among the first guerrillas deployed to the frontlines, operating in the Tsholotsho District of Matabeleland North.
His unit laid the groundwork for the Wankie Battles, a joint operation involving ZAPU and ANC fighters that extended into Bulilima District in Matabeleland South.
As a military communications specialist, he worked closely with comrades such as Cain Mathema, Joshua Mpofu, and Bhekuzulu Khumalo.
They jointly led the department alongside ANC’s Umkhonto WeSizwe fighters, including Walter Mavuso and Jackie Modise, the wife of MK commander Joe Modise.
One notable engagement he participated in was the Madliwa battle, which lasted nearly five days along the Zambezi River Escarpment near Kariba, fought on the Zambian side. The battalion was commanded by the now Retired Major-General Stanford Khumalo, known as uMadliwa.
During the ceasefire, Dube was appointed to a committee responsible for integration, demobilisation, and the formation of the Zimbabwe National Army.
This committee was led by three members, with Dube representing ZIPRA, the late Josiah Tungamirai representing ZANLA, and General Jacobs coming from the Rhodesian Army.
Dube later became the overall commander of the signals department in the Zimbabwe National Army and was appointed a full Colonel.
He served ten years in the army before moving to the Defence Headquarters as Deputy Secretary of Research and Development.
After about three years, he became the chief executive of the Zimbabwe Defence Industries (ZDI), where he worked for 23 years.
He then transitioned into politics, serving as the Member of Parliament for Makokoba in Bulawayo for several years.
In 2015, Dube was appointed Minister of War Veterans and later authored a memoir titled “Quiet Flows the Zambezi.”
He is survived by his wife, Nomathemba Wendy Dube, as well as several children and grandchildren.

Tshinga Dube, a retired colonel in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and a member of the ZANU PF Politburo, has criticised party members who are urging President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his term beyond 2028, calling their motivations selfish.
Speaking at Lady Stanley Cemetery during the burial of liberation war hero Killion Dube, who passed away at the age of 89 on August 25 due to hypertension, Dube said it is premature to discuss ZANU PF succession.
The iconic war veteran expressed concern that such discussions could tarnish Mnangagwa’s legacy, particularly given his significant contributions to the liberation of the country and his ongoing role in its development. Said Dube (via <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031778/be-wary-of-mnangagwas-advisers-tshinga-dube">NewsDay</a>):

There are various opinions on the succession issue. Most of the members of the party have said he should hang on to power, but he has said that he will follow the Constitution.
We have not heard him saying he wants to cling on to power beyond his term of office but we should know that while men propose, God disposes.
We do not know what is going to happen in four years to come, even spirit mediums do not know, only God knows. Advisers are problematic, those advising him are only looking at things that benefit themselves.
We must be careful with the advice that we give to the President so that it does not benefit individuals only because we want his legacy to remain; these things can destroy his legacy after working so hard as a minister, surviving hangman’s noose and at the end of the day his legacy is destroyed like that.

Dube said the upcoming ZANU PF conference was administrative and not an elective one.
The ZANU PF 21st National People’s Conference will be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Grounds in Bulawayo from October 22 to 27, 2024.

Tshinga Dube, a member of ZANU PF, criticized party members who want President Mnangagwa to extend his term. He said it's too early to talk about who will lead after Mnangagwa. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly directed that 258 former ZIPRA combatants who were unfairly dismissed from Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) in 1983 be compensated.
The former ZIPRA fighters were fired at the height of Gukurahundi under unclear circumstances.
Two of their comrades were allegedly shot dead at a parade by one of their commanders.
Speaking at former ZIPRA cadres’ meeting held in Bulawayo on Saturday, former ZIPRA commander and ZANU PF politburo member, Tshinga Dube, said:

May I once more applaud His Excellency for solving the problem of those comrades who were unjustly dismissed from ZNA in 1983.
Now, their problem has been solved after almost 40 years and I hear they will be compensated for 40 years’ salaries and also registered into the pension office.
Kutonga kwaro; we must thank H.E. for keeping his promise to say no one will be left behind.
I wish to point out a very brave and consistent young man Duke Moyo and his 258 colleagues who fought their case until victory.

Dube also revealed that Mnangagwa has promised to return the properties seized by the government from the ex-combatants during the Gukurahundi atrocities. He said:

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has defended the appointment of Retired Colonel <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tshinga_Dube">Tshinga Dube</a> (81) to the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) board.
Political analyst, Rashweat Mukundu, among other commentators, said the appointment was testimony that the country’s leadership does not understand what is required to revive the “struggling” parastatal.
However, addressing journalists at a traffic safety indaba in Harare on Thursday, Mhona said Dube was ideal for the post following his long experience in corporate affairs.
Mhona added that those criticising Dube’s appointment were failing to consider the positives that he is set to bring into the NRZ boardroom. He said:

It is surprising that some people from outside the country are concerned with his appointment while overlooking what he is bringing to the organisation.
Cde Dube served as a board member at CMED and he will come with great expertise.
He is fit and has experience.

Dube, who holds an MSc in Engineering, will serve for three years on the board with his term set to end on December 6, 2025.

Colonel (retired) <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tshinga_Dube">Tshinga Dube</a> (81), a former Cabinet minister and ZANU PF politburo member, defended his most recent appointment to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Railways_of_Zimbabwe">National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ)</a> board yesterday by stating that his mind was still sound and stable enough to contribute to the parastatal.
His latest appointment to the NRZ board by Transport and Infrastructure Development minister Felix Mhona triggered public outcry with some Zimbabweans saying the “struggling” parastatal needed new blood.
Political analyst <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Rashweat_Mukundu">Rashweat Mukundu </a>is among those who believe Dube should not have been appointed. He told Pindula News that the appointment was testimony that the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/minister-mhona-criticised-for-appointing-81-old-tshinga-dube-to-nrz-board/">leadership does not understand what is required to revive NRZ.</a> He told this reporter this Wednesday:

Dube, who holds a Master’s Degree in Electro-Tech from MADI Institute of Technology in Moscow, Russia, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200006644/im-still-mentally-sound-tshinga-dube">told NewsDay</a> that his mind is very sharp and stable. He is quoted as saying:

I was appointed by my President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is the appointing authority. If you have queries, go and ask him. l have committed no sin to be appointed to the NRZ board, after all, l am not the chief executive officer.
I don’t work on my feet, but I use my brains, and my brain is still stable. l have been in the industry for many years, and have sat on over 20 boards worldwide.  l have resuscitated many companies and I don’t care what people say since I would not be able to answer to all of them.

The NRZ announced that Dube would join the board for a three-year term.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felix_Mhona">Felix Mhona</a> has been criticised for appointing an 81-year-old former freedom fighter, Colonel (Retired) <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tshinga_Dube">Tshinga Dube</a>, to the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) board.
The company announced the latest appointment by Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, on Friday 20 January 2023.
NRZ stated that Dube, a former Cabinet minister, would hold office for a term that would end on December 6, 2025. NRZ general manager, Ms Respina Ziyanduko, was quoted as saying:

 We are really excited as NRZ to have you as one of our board members. Our board is hands-on in terms of ensuring that they keep the organisation running and the management on their toes.
</blockquote>
She said NRZ stood to benefit from Dube’s vast experience in Government, in different boards, organisations, and interactions with other international players.

Zanu PF Politburo member Tshinga Dube while in an interview with the Daily News said the first step to mending the problems beleaguering Zimbabwe is acknoledging that there is need for dialogue and South Africa has a critical role to play in it. This came after human rights abuses in Zimbabwe headlines internationally prompting the ANC delegation to come to Zimbabwe to have “frank talks” with Zanu PF:
Said the former
<blockquote>It all starts with the leaders in Zanu PF agreeing that we need dialogue and that South Africa has a critical role to play. They need to find common ground on that to make the ANC’s work easier. We can blame this group or that group, but I don’t want to do that because what is important, for the sake of progress, is that they must find each other. It is not difficult for the leaders to find each other because they have been working together for quite a long time.
I don’t think it is impossible for them (Zanu PF factions) to do that for the good of the country and our people. That is what leadership is all about. If they do not agree and continue like that, then it will be difficult for anyone who wants to help, including the ANC,</blockquote>
The government has however insisted that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe and there is no need for mediation from South Africa. When it comes to dialogue, the President has said there will be no dialogue outside POLAD.

Former Minister for War Veterans Affairs, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tshinga_Dube" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tshinga Dube</a>, has criticised the country’s political leaders for pursuing power at the expense of finding solutions to the problems bedevilling the country.
Dube told a local radio station on Wednesday that Zimbabwe’s leaders are now megalomaniac. He said:
<blockquote>We have to realise that we have no other country except Zimbabwe and if we are going to make Zimbabwe a country that we are proud of, we have to think seriously and forget selfish tendencies.
For instance, now we have all these problems. I am certain that our leaders can find a solution instead of thinking about power because power intoxicates. Absolute power intoxicates absolutely.</blockquote>
While the country is faced with numerous challenges, the government has been focused on strengthening its repressive apparatus.
As of November 26, 448 incapacitated doctors had been fired from the public service while a recent gathering of MDC supporters in the Harare CBD was violently dispersed by the police.

Ex-Minister Chides Zimbabwe's Leaders For Being Megalomaniacs

In an interview with The Herald, Zanu-PF Politburo member Tshinga Dube clarified that he has not quit politics but will not contest for the Makokoba Constituency seat in 2023.
Dube said he will continue to work with Makokoba and for Zanu-PF. He is the deputy secretary for Finance in Zanu-PF. Said Dube:
<blockquote>I will continue to support my constituency though I am a losing Member of Parliament. Those people have loyalty in me. I am a stockholder and not a stakeholder. I will always be working for the party and the party will always deploy me as it sees fit as they have done now. I do not think my age will allow me. I am capable of serving the party now, but I do not think it will be fair to contest in 2023. It will need someone stronger to take over.</blockquote>

I Haven't Quit Politics, I Won't Contest For Makokoba Seat In 2023: Tshinga Dube Clarifies

In a letter addressed to Zanu-PF national elections commission chairman and national political commissar Engelbert Rugeje, one of the candidates contesting in Zanu-PF Makokoba constituency Nothiwani Dlodlo accused the constituency’s current legislator Tshinga Dube of vote buying.
In the letter seen by NewsDay, Dlodlo is demanding a rerun citing intimidation and polling maladministration by presiding officers. He said Dube bussed voters in LED Travellers Tours buses which belong to his friend. He also said his polling agent at Burombo Polling Station was denied the right to observe the voting process. Said Dlodlo:
<blockquote>My name was not on the voters’ roll. We were told the electorate will be transported by the province only to realise that it was a scam to prop up Dube as the province did not provide transport but a LED bus provided by Dube. Dube as the current MP and direct beneficiary of Constituency Development Fund ($50 000) he used this money to directly prop up support for the primaries and also this money was used to prop up support for his chosen council candidates for ward 7 and 8 who happen to be provincial members also working in his constituency office.</blockquote>

Tshinga Dube Accused Of Vote Buying As He Wins Zanu-PF Primary Elections

Former War Veterans Minister Tshinga Dube said that he does not feel rejected by President Emmerson Mnangagwa after being left out of his Government.
Dube said that he has never done anything for a price although he was eligible to land the vice-presidency on grounds of being one of the most senior Zanu PF officials from Matabeleland region. Said Dube:
<blockquote>I have never done anything for a price. If you are given powers to choose whom to work with, you choose those that you believe will deliver. Otherwise, I don’t feel rejected at all that I am not a VP, let alone a minister. I am happy I am still the MP for Makokoba and if the constituency rejects me, that is when I will feel rejected and disappointed.”</blockquote>

On Wednesday, Zanu PF youth in Makokoba held a demonstration calling for the ouster of their Member of Parliament Tshinga Dube over allegations of belonging to former Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Team Lacoste accused of seeking to overthrow a constitutionally-elected government.
The youths accuse Dube of being linked to the group that booed First Lady Grace Mugabe at White City Stadium in Bulawayo during the youth interface rally last Saturday. Speaking during the solidarity protest, district commissar Emmanuel Munkuli said:
<blockquote>The MP was supporting Mnangagwa and working against our President. What he did is embarrassing and he must be expelled from the party. We support the decision by the provincial co-ordinating committee (PCC) to bar him from the meeting. Tshinga Dube must go with Lacoste. He is causing divisions in Makokoba.</blockquote>
When contacted by NewsDay for a comment, Dube said the claims were unsubstantiated.

Minister of War Veterans Ret. Colonel Tshinga Dube has expressed his dissatisfaction with the welfare of war veterans saying that the government needs to do more. He said that the government should pay the war veterans at least $500 per month. In an interview, Dube said:
<blockquote>I have recently said we should work on the issue of pensions while taking into consideration the poverty datum line. I am not sure, but I think it’s around $500. If each war veteran gets that money, it will sustain him, buying groceries, paying rentals and for their medical insurance. Yes, the money will never be enough, they have children who are going to school. We are not able to pay the school fees of their children due to financial constraints. We have to look after their medical insurance but we are not able to do so and also their burial. Yes, we tried to raise their requirements for burial from $800 to $2 000 but that is not enough. If we also could get that money in time, because sometimes we get the money late, and the family will be forced to fork out money to bury their relative.</blockquote>

Addressing members of the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators’Col Association during their Manicaland conference at Mutare Hall yesterday, War Veterans Minister Tshinga Dube said he was a nobody and urged war veterans aligned to Christopher Mutsvangwa planning to demonstrate in solidarity with him to do so in support of their patron, President Mugabe.
Said Dube:
<blockquote>I am just nothing. The most important person is President Mugabe. I am just a mosquito. I am nobody, but just a messenger sent by President Mugabe to unite all factions. I was told not to select any group, but unite all factions because we have one patron.</blockquote>

Minister of Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators and Former Political Detainees Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube has revealed that the government is working on aligning laws to allow them to start paying gratuities and monthly pensions to war collaborators and ex-detainees. Dube said that the government is actually vetting and registering these people. The Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators’ Association (Ziliwaco) has been pushing the government for compensation and benefits for almost 20 years now.
Said Dube:
<blockquote>We are now working on the alignment of the laws to the Constitution and once this is completed, everything will be alright, but we are not waiting.
Already we are starting [with] registering all the war collaborators. So, we are not sitting, we are really working hard to ensure that this is complete.
We are doing everything to unite the war veterans, but we can only persuade them to unite</blockquote>

War collaborators and ex-detainees to receive monthly pensions and gratuities

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Liberation_War_Veterans_Association">Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association</a> (ZNLWVA) secretary-general <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Victor_Matemadanda">Victor Matemadanda </a>yesterday threatened to release a recording of War Veterans ministry permanent secretary Walter Tapfumaneyi encouraging former combatants in Bulawayo to ditch the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Christopher_Mutsvangwa">Christopher Mutsvangwa</a>-led executive.
Matemadanda said Tafumaneyi was trying to persuade the former freedom fighters to dump Mutsvangwa as the former Norton MP was fired from <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">Zanu PF</a>. Tapfumaneyi and War Veterans minister <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Tshinga_Dube">Tshinga Dube</a> are currently on a nationwide tour meeting the former fighters to, according to the minister, gather information on the welfare needs of the ex-combatants.
The meetings, however, were being conducted in the absence of the Mutsvangwa-led executive, Matemadanda claimed. He claimed the nationwide meetings were aimed at toppling Mutsvangwa. However War Veterans Minister Dube denied that his ministry was being used to topple the ZNLWA executive, saying he respected Mutsvangwa’s leadership.

Matemadanda threatens to expose War Veterans' permanent secretary

War Veterans Minister Retired Colonel <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Tshinga_Dube">Tshinga Dube</a> has questioned the number of registered freedom fighters, saying it has remained static even though a number of them have died over the years.
Speaking to journalists in Bulawayo last Friday he said,
<blockquote>We’ve 34 000 registered war veterans, but with the way they are dying at a very fast pace and old age, it’s difficult to ascertain their numbers. We also have 5 000 detainees and restrictees.</blockquote>
Dube said he was not in a position to reveal the amount of money the Government was spending on war veterans’ allowances each month as it varies per individual. He said war veterans allowances depended on the extent of injuries suffered during the country’s war of independence.
<blockquote>I can’t tell you how much each one gets from the war veterans pension. It depends on the percentage of incapacitation. Some were five percent others 20 percent and others lost all their legs they are given about 80 percent.</blockquote>
