The Mayor of Redcliff, Councillor Clayton Masiyatsva, who belonged to the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), collapsed at his home and was taken to a clinic where he died upon arrival. He served as a councillor for Ward 3 in the town. The Acting Town Clerk, Mr Nyararai Gomba, confirmed the sudden death of Mayor Masiyatsva, who had been unwell since the end of 2023. Gomba is quoted by Nehanda Radio as saying:

I confirm that Cllr Masiyatsva passed on this afternoon upon admission at Topomas Clinic in Kwekwe.
He has not been well since the end of last year and we thought he would recover but unfortunately, it has come to this.

The municipality of Redcliff released a statement notifying residents and stakeholders about the mayor’s untimely demise. Read the statement:

The news of his passing has saddened many, including Tererai Obey Sithole, who expressed his condolences and referred to Mayor Masiyatsva as a “Brother.” Gweru Mayor Cllr Martin Chivhoko described the late mayor’s death as a significant loss. Kwekwe Mayor Cllr Albert Zinhanga described him as a highly dedicated councillor.
Mayor Masiyatsva was re-elected in September 2023 for another term as the head of the Redcliff Municipality.

Redcliff Mayor Clayton Masiyatsva Collapses And Dies

A 17-year-old Form 3 student named Sindiso Hlazo was found dead outside a bar in Torwood suburb, Redcliff in a suspected murder case.
According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday. Mahoko stated that Hlazo had left his home in Kwekwe for Plot 20 Swartlage farm in Redcliff on Friday morning for unknown reasons. Mahoko said:

Allegations are that on Friday around 11 AM the now deceased Sindiso Hlazo who was a Form 3 student left home in Kwekwe for Plot 20 Swartlage farm Redcliff where he had been sent by his brother for yet to be established reasons.
</blockquote>
Mahoko added that on Saturday, Sindiso Hlazo was seen drinking beer in the company of other unknown men at Chilax Nightclub in Torwood Shopping Centre, Redcliff around 1 AM. At around 2:30 AM, the bar attendant was informed by patrons that a male juvenile’s body was found outside the nightclub. He added:

The bar attendant discovered that it was the same boy she had earlier on seen in the nightclub.
During scene attendance, police observed some bleeding from the right ear.

Insp Mahoko said no arrests have been made, and members of the public with information concerning the case are urged to approach the nearest police station to assist with investigations. He said:

We are appealing to members of the public who might have information concerning this case to approach their nearest police station so that the culprits involved may be brought to book.
</blockquote>
According to Zimbabwean law, underage individuals are not allowed to enter or consume alcohol in bars, nightclubs, or any other licensed premises that serve alcohol. The legal drinking age in Zimbabwe is 18 years old, and anyone found serving alcohol or allowing underage individuals to consume it can be prosecuted and fined. The law is in place to protect minors from the harmful effects of alcohol and to promote responsible drinking among the general public. It is the responsibility of the bar owners and staff to ensure that they do not serve alcohol to underage individuals and to comply with the law. 
While some underage individuals may lie about their age and may have developed physical features that make them appear older than they actually are, it is still the responsibility of bar owners and staff to ensure that they do not serve alcohol to underage individuals.

Form 3 Student Found Dead At Bar

Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo has accused opposition councillors at Redcliff Municipality of sabotaging plans to refurbish former ambassador Arikana Chihombori-Quao’s hospital, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/minister-accuses-opposition-councillors-of-sabotaging-refurbishment-of-ex-diplomats-hospital/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
Redcliff Municipality recently purchased Torwood Hospital and Bell Medical Centre using devolution funds.
The medical facilities were owned by Chihombori-Quao, a former representative of the African Union Mission to the United States.
Moyo, who is running for the Redcliff National Assembly seat on a ZANU PF ticket, said:

As government, our position is that Torwood Hospital must be resuscitated as part of our broader plan to have access to quality health for all.
Last year President Emerson Mnangagwa said we must purchase through devolution funds Redcliff Hospital from Arikana Chihombori, who had bought the hospital from Ziscosteel and closed it.

He claimed that the opposition was sabotaging the Government to make residents vote against the ruling party in upcoming general elections. Said Moyo:

I once visited Redcliff with the Deputy Minister of Health and told them we had handed over the hospital to them.
We however raised reservations about their ability to run it so the government decided to chip in and have the government run the hospital.
We were expecting to get a letter from the council but nothing happened.
We realized the opposition councillors were not forwarding the letter as they wanted to sabotage development so that people in Redcliff would be pained by the development and vote against the current government.

July Moyo Accuses Opposition Councillors Of Sabotaging Refurbishment Of Hospital In Redcliff

A man from Redcliff, a settlement a few kilometres from Kwekwe, in Midlands Province, has been arrested for robbing two women and forcing them to perform sexual acts which he recorded.
Kenneth Ndavambi (38), was masked and armed with a knife when he attacked the women and robbed them of cash and cellphones.
Ndavambi appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Cheryl Tembo facing robbery and criminal insult charges.
He was remanded in custody to 13 January 2023 for trial.
Prosecutor Nyasha Hloka told the court that on 17 December 2022 around 6 PM around Mutegude area in Redcliff, the two complainants, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, were on their way home. Said Hloka:

The accused person suddenly appeared from the bush wearing a mask and produced a knife and demanded that they hand over their cellphones to him. Fearing for their lives, the two complainants complied.
</blockquote>
The court heard that Ndavambi ordered the women to remove their clothes and forced them to lick each other’s private parts and breasts while he recorded them.
He allegedly demanded to have sexual intercourse with them but they refused.
Upon hearing a passerby approaching, the accused person ran away leaving the complainants naked.

Masked Robber Forces Two Women To Perform Sexual Acts

The secretary for Information, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nick_Mangwana">Nick Mangwana</a>, is being accused of displacing villagers at two farms in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chegutu">Chegutu</a> under controversial circumstances.
Mangwana allegedly teamed up with ZANU PF Mhondoro-Mubaira legislator Freddy Kapuya to displace the villagers in Thorndyke and Hopewell farms in Chegutu East.
Freddy Kapuya, who is also a former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Redcliff">Redcliff</a> mayor, was allegedly given 350 hectares of land while Mangwana got 100 hectares, affected villagers told <a href="https://thestandard.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200005188/chaos-as-zanu-pf-heavyweights-displace-settlers">The Standard</a>.
It is alleged that hundreds of villagers occupying part of Thorndyke and Hopewell farms have been served with eviction orders and directed to stop developments pending eviction.
Sources said that a Chinese mining company, Global Platinum Resources, is also set to occupy part of the farms for platinum mining and recently visited the area for some assessments.
The Zimbabwe Land and Agrarian Network (ZLAN), a membership-based local network of farmers and researchers, has since written a letter to the government seeking clarification.
ZLAN also wrote a letter to the Chegutu Rural District Council requesting an official position on reports that Global Platinum Resources has interests in the area.
Some of the villagers are said to have occupied the land at the height of land invasions in the early 2000s.
One of the victims, a 66-year-old woman, is said to have suffered a stroke and is bedridden after she was given only 48 hours to leave.

Nick Mangwana, ZANU PF MP, Business Mogul Evict Villagers From Chegutu Farms - Report

The Redcliff Primary School head and the School Development Committee (SDC) recently snubbed the local Member of Parliament who had gone to donate laptops at the school.
Redcliff MP, Lloyd Mukapiko (MDC Alliance), donated laptops at the school from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He was made to wait for an hour before he was attended to by school authorities as the school head, “was at home, ill.”
Members of the SDC, who are alleged ZANU PF members, were also absent during the donation ceremony. Said Mukapiko:

I would have been happy to present this donation to the school development committee.
Unfortunately, they had their own political reasons for staying away from this event, which is quite unfortunate.
This donation of computers is benefiting learners here and that is development and development has nothing to do with politics.
We mustn’t destroy the future of our country because of politics, development must take precedence.
CDF is meant for constituency development and development doesn’t locate anyone based on their political affiliations.

Mukapiko said this was not the first time ZANU PF supporters have rejected the opposition MP’s donation. He said:

We had a similar situation in nearby resettlement areas in Grasslands.
However, we managed to resolve our differences and we are now working together.
We decided to prioritise development ahead of partisan politics.
Despite the fact that only 28 people voted for me in Grasslands, I have gone on to construct a classroom block in that ward.
This was after a realisation that there were a few schools in the area.
