Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) cardholders are now able to access medical services at various hospitals and clinics following government intervention. As a result, 98 out of 121 PSMAS health facilities across the country are now offering full medical services, allowing the medical aid society to focus on providing health services to its clients, <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/06/29/psmas-scraps-off-co-payments-for-members/">ZBC News</a> reported.
The government intervened in May and took over PSMAS debts, providing a cash injection that led to the reopening of health facilities across the country. PSMAS has resolved to no longer collect co-payments from members beginning July 1st, to ensure universal access to healthcare services.
Premier Services Medical Investments -Executive Director for Health Services Dr Margaret Maulana said plans are already underway to upgrade the services offered in line with the government’s goal of ensuring universal access to healthcare services. Maulana said:

We have got 121 units across the country and out of those we have currently managed to open 98. The services are from medical clinics, hospitals, radiology units EMRAS units renal units. The society has also since made a decision to make sure that the burden in terms of barrier access to access services is addressed and we have resolved that from the first of July we are no longer going to be collecting co-payments from members.
We want to acknowledge that whatever happened in the past is regrettable that we could no longer service them whilst they were still contributing as members. In the future, we will make sure this does not happen again. On the part of the government, it made sure that we are uploaded and we are supported from the time we opened on the second of May to date.
</blockquote>
If PSMAS, the largest health insurance in Zimbabwe, resumes normal operations and provides healthcare services to Zimbabweans it will be contributing towards the attainment of goals and objectives stated in the country’s National Health Strategy. The government has also provided over US$40,000 to restock pharmacies, which are said to have improved the availability of drugs.

PSMAS Cardholders Now Able To Access Medical Services At Health Institutions

Parkview Hospital workers picketed in Harare and one of them cried over salaries. 
They are alleging gross mismanagement and corruption at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/PSMAS_Mega_Salaries_scandal">Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS)</a> group and PSMI. 
The workers allege that they have not been paid for over 6 months. They are also accusing management of stalling the release of the PSMAS Forensic Audit.
 In the video, one of the workers is filmed crying over salaries and saying her child has not been going to school as she has not been paid for over 6 months.

Says one of the striking workers:

Capacitate PSMAS and PSMI because more centres have been shut down. There is nothing functioning at most of the PSMAS centres. Civil servants’ hospitals have been shut down.

The workers are calling on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to intervene and help resuscitate PSMAS and PSMI.

The government has stopped subsidising adult dependants on <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Premier_Service_Medical_Aid_Society">Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) Medical Aid</a> with immediate effect to lessen the burden on Treasury and PSMAS.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Civil_Service_Commission">Public Service Commission</a> Secretary Dr Tsitsi Choruma said policyholders who wish to keep adult dependants on the medical cover will have to shoulder the cost. Choruma said in a Press statement on Saturday: 
<blockquote>
In view of the aspirations to have all public servants accessing medical coverage through PSMAS, the Government has made a decision that adult dependants shall not be subsidised by the subscriptions made by the Government for its public workers’ core beneficiaries. 
As such, all members of the public service who wish to add other beneficiaries to their plans would need to pay PSMAS-defined market rates for them.
The addition of adult dependants onto one’s plan would require that a member notifies PSMAS directly and ensures that they make the necessary arrangements for the proposed additions.
It must be noted that the arrangements to finance extra dependants is the responsibility of the member and this will be done by directly signing up with PSMAS.
The Public Service Commission hopes that members will understand the concerns stated above, but more importantly, also note that this decision will enable the availability of resources to largely benefit the members of the public service,” she said.
This change is meant to lessen the financial burden on the Government and PSMAS, while ensuring the viability of the medical cover.
This enhances value for the members and ensures the sustainability of the provision of services offered by PSMAS to its clients. The Government of Zimbabwe remains committed to guaranteeing that public servants have access to good health and medical care.
</blockquote>
Dr Choruma said the decision to stop paying subsidies for adult beneficiaries was also occasioned by an unprecedented increase in the number of these beneficiaries added by PSMAS members.
She added that PSC will only deduct subscriptions through the Salary Service Bureau (SSB) upon receipt of a clear instruction signed off by the member. Members are also free to pay directly to PSMAS.

The Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS), has rebranded as a move to enhance its responsiveness in an ever-changing environment as well as match emerging global trends, Health Times reported.
In his keynote address during the PSMAS official rebranding launch, PSMAS Board Chairman Jeremiah Bvirindi said the organisation had to adjust to avoid inefficiencies and to address the mistakes that came with growth. He said:
<blockquote>We have had to reorganise our organisation as pain areas began to emerge. As time went on the operational landscape, member needs and disease patterns all changed and made calls on the organisation to realign.
As we transform and look into the future, our focus is on growing our membership through the provision of quality and affordable health cover.
As such, the Society relooked into its product offerings, its channels of service delivery, its relationship with different stakeholders, its systems and processes as well as its image in the public eye to set its tone for the future.
PSMAS membership is now open to all sectors of the economy and the latest transformation exercise seeks to speak to this new thrust.</blockquote>
Executive Officer for PSMAS, Farai Muchena, said the medical aid society’s rebranding is worth it as it now covers all economic sectors. Said Muchena:
<blockquote>We believe in our hearts, that when we see the Society`s continued ability to help members to meet their healthcare expenses when we continue to create direct and indirect employment for our employees and suppliers, enabling them to send their children to school, put food on the table and launch exceptional and fulfilling careers when we create sustainable value for our shareholders and our communities.

PSMAS Rebrands, Membership Now Open To All Economic Sectors

Government is considering providing health insurance services for Zimbabwean citizens based in South Africa.
This will see Premier Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) setting up offices in South Africa. According to minutes from the Bi-National Commission meetings seen by The Herald, Zimbabwe made the request and South Africa granted it. PSMAS was given until August 2019 to register in South Africa.
PSMAS public relations manager Mr Arthur Choga confirmed their participation in the Zim-SA Bi-National Commission. He said they will use this as an opportunity to unlock forex inflows in order to fund areas such as procurement of drugs.

Govt Wants To Provide Medical Aid For Zimbabweans In SA

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Premier_Service_Medical_Aid_Society">Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS)</a> has suspended five executives for allegedly stealing millions of dollars during the salaries scandal under former group chief executive officer, Cuthbert Dube.
The five are head of communications and stakeholder relations Ms Mavis Gumbo, head of marketing Mrs Anna Mtengwa Mangwiro, Mr Richard Mutasa (head of risk and audit), company secretary Mr Cosmas Mukwesha and head of managed care, Dr Nicholas Munyonga. They are expected to appear before a disciplinary hearing in the next 14 days to answer to charges of swindling the medical aid society.
The society has already instituted legal proceedings against Dr Dube, former finance director Mr Ernest Gwinyai, former operations director Mr Enock Chitekedza, Mr Raphel Paradzai and Mrs Juliana Sabarauta. PSMAS board chairman Mr Jeremiah Bvirindi confirmed the latest suspension of the five executives yesterday.
